    Uggghhh team finalized.

This is a different kettle of fish to the Spring Classics game. At least there you pretty much know in advance who's going to be at what races and roughly plan out transfers. This meanwhile is a step into the unknown.

Archie's good form continues. 1-2-3 on the day and a smattering of lower places.

Bretagne Classic up next this coming Sunday.

.....and the overall league after two races:

The two big scorers on the day, Raffaele and Dom, both must have forgotten to enter a team in time for the first race as neither have accrued any points from it.

Brussels Classic up next on Saturday.

Only a cat 3 race, so there were never going to be many points about and the crash only added to that. Canadian double header up next.

Tight scoring as the 1-2 were exceedingly obvious picks for this race.

Only a small window to make transfers as Montreal is tomorrow.

If the league ended today, ember would just hold onto the win for the year long competition by one point and I would drop off the podium by one point.

I haven't forgotten to update this, but I can't get TinyPics to work at the moment.

Stephen Tunstall won on the day scoring 620 points and MellowVelo leads the overall.

The final six races are crammed into the next 8 days! So you'll have to be on your toes as regards transfers.

    Catch-up time.

    #6 Worlds

Our first category one race, but maybe not as many points as hoped. In fact only our top two on the day scored more than Archie got back in the category two Cyclassics.

    #7 Emilia

I used up a few transfers and managed to get 2-3-4-5-6 in my team. However that doesn't give many points in a category three race.

    #8 Bruno Beghelli

I don't think we'll look back on this race as where the decisive action happened. Only Josedin breaking the 100 point barrier

Overall this is how it looks at the moment:

    Tight at the top.

If the league finished as it is ember would still hang onto the overall victory by one point and ditto for me and the podium.

I know you mean the overall, but I'm hanging on for grim death, here. :D
All out of transfers, all in for Lombardia, where I need a big result from my under card of Autumn under achievers.

Rare picks Visconti and Simon giving Russell the edge here.

    #10 Milano - Torino

MAL finally coming good for those of us who had him. It should have been even better....

    #11 Piemonte

Some free points for anyone who had Sonny.

    ....and the overall.

Ten points is nothing. In fact with 200 points available for first place at Lombardia, you might even think the 275 point gap down to Archie and ember might be bridgeable if you get a random outsider on your team winning. However I think the overall winner is more likely to come from the top-4.

As for the year long league. The current positions would give a tie for first and third!

Currently looking as if I've been undone by the benefit of having transfers left and some strategic man to man marking of my under card riders who have finally come to the party....

Edit: In the end Joao Pinto walks it I reckon. 3 of the top 4.

The final race of the final league of the season.

    #11 Lombardia

A lot more points than our other category one race. The vast majority of us had Pinot and Teuns, but to get the top spot on the day you also needed Uran and to have taken a bit of a gamble on Nibali. Chapeau to Stephen!

All those points shook up the overall a bit.

A comfortable margin in the end for Joao with MellowVelo's Autumn underachievers (Moscon and Kreuziger?) mis-firing at the final fence.

Looking back up the thread we could have had a different winner...

The two big scorers on the day, Raffaele and Dom, both must have forgotten to enter a team in time for the first race as neither have accrued any points from it.

This forgetfulness would have consequences greater than the overall in the Autumn Classics game, but more on that in the next post.

So after all that it's a tie between ember and Raffaele. 18 leagues over the course of nine months couldn't separate them. Congratulations to both!

You could of course go through each league and find instances were a point could easily have been achieved or lost and given a different overall result. In fact you only have to look at the above league. As I mentioned Raffaele forgot to enter in time for the first race, but you can also see that if Archie had scored 1 more point or ember 5 then we would have had a different outcome.

For the sake of completedness, here are all the winners throughout the year.

    Tour Down Under: Nathan
    Paris-Nice: Ozgur
    Tirreno-Adriatico: Riccardo Filippetti
    Volta a Catalunya: Archieboy
    Pais Vasco: Joao Pinto

    Spring Classics: Leadbelly

Tour de Romandie: Just Stop It Swiss Toni
    Tour of California: Joao Pinto

    Giro d'Italia: @_ivangenaro

    Criterium du Dauphine: Russell
    Tour de Suisse: Riccardo Filippetti
    Women's Tour: Lord Di Lego
    Giro Rosa: Riccardo Filippetti
Volta a Portugal: Lord Di Lego
    BinckBank Tour: Archieboy
    Tour of Britain: ember

    Vuelt a Espana: Archieboy

    Autumn Classics: Joao Pinto

So our two overall winners won a combined total of one league between them. :lol

Riccardo, Archie and Joao who all won three each might feel a bit aggrieved.

The final bit of bookkeeping is the overall points league, but remember this doesn't include all the leagues and is only here for interest.

Raffaele finished 17th out of 28969 entrants (the vast majority of those won't have entered all competitions though).

I had been toying with the idea of changing the scoring system for 2019 to better reward winning over consistency. I say "had" since the current system has provided two very close finishes and it would seem silly to change it after that.

At the moment we use something like the old F1 system where the placings are separated by just one point (10pts for 1st, 9pts for 2nd ....... 1pt for 10th). The alternative is to switch to the scoring system they use currently in F1 (25pts for 1st, 18pts for 2nd ...... 1pt for 10th).

Any thoughts? Just keep it the same?
