Mine says Stybar is a unique pick which is odd

Wow shocking because I considered him as well. Didn't think he'd be really popular but unique is strange.
Btw, he said he is going to finally win a big race next year so.... ;)

Despite my team being mostly picked by heart I appear to have a nice mix of popular riders and not so popular ones. No unique picks. Might be a good recipe for success, who knows.

    My popular picks:
    NIBALI Vincenzo   693   87
    GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando   602   83
    ZAKARIN Ilnur   473   69
    BOUHANNI Nacer   441   51
    ARU Fabio   400   96
    GAUDU David   299   57
    KITTEL Marcel   296   99
CHAVES RUBIO Jhoan Esteban   263   90
    FELLINE Fabio   257   63
    THEUNS Edward   191   61
    BETTIOL Alberto   50   92
    EVENEPOEL Remco   0   89

    My slightly popular picks:
    PADUN Mark   191   30
    HALVORSEN Kristoffer   162   35
    MOSCHETTI Matteo   144   28
    BARBIER Rudy   90   36
    ROWE Luke   70   28

    My (relatively) rare picks:
    BARGUIL Warren   447   12
One of the riders I thought most about and gave me a real headache. Realistically, he isn't going to double his score, but as the leader of his team I could see him reach his 2017 score again. He is a rider I really like and in this points range was the only pick I fancied that wasn't on my team already. In other words, there was a Barguil-sized gap on my team.

    KÜNG Stefan   437   14

One of my favorite riders, and finally he has left the nest and will have freedom to pursue his goals. Of course it helps that he's now on my favorite team as well and hopefully he will have a breakthrough in the spring classics.

    WALSCHEID Maximilian   389   6

Another rider that gave a headache, too expensive for the type of rider he is, i.e. a talented but not (yet) top sprinter, however I saw some performances last year that gave me the feeling he can do more and do better.

    CATTANEO Mattia   295   2
Wow, I am shocked he is a near unique pick, but I kinda understand it, I believe he scored almost half of his current score in the last week and a half of his season and he is now probably a little too expensive. However, it also gives me the feeling he can score much better if he is more consistent, as evidenced as well by his 2017 season. I wanted either him or Masnada on my team as well, and Masnada got even more expensive in his final race, so it was an easy choice.

    VENTURINI Clément   183   4
I still believe in Venturini. He doesn't have much competition on AG2R but despite that, he had an underwhelming season last year. I believe he can do better and am looking forward to cheering him on.

    STANNARD Robert   172   14
I'll admit, he got on my team when I was still under the impression he would be a 2nd year neo pro. And I never considered removing him when I found out he would be a 1st year neo. Probably a bit too expensive, but at the same time he is so talented and seems to be pretty allround as well, with a good sprint in his legs, decent climbing skills and a good TT.

    GARCIA CORTINA Ivan   153   14
Was a no-brainer for me, very strong rider, I expected a breakthrough last year but it didn't happen, but what he showed made me even more convinced he can become a real star.

    HAMILTON Lucas   149   10
Was one of the most promising talents when he became pro last year but struggled, in fact most of his points came from the Hammer Series. However, the talent is still there, I am sure of it, and a difficult first year as a pro isn't that rare.

    FABBRO Matteo   116   10
Very talented pocket climber, and I'm sure if he hadn't scored those 62 points in Turkey in October he'd be on many more teams. He needs to take a small step ahead and he'll easily double or even triple his score.

    VLIEGEN Loïc   109   11
Pretty surprised he was only picked by 10 other people, but on the other hand he was a late addition to my team because I'd overlooked him. Was considered a big talent several years ago but had a lot of problems with his health. I like Wanty as a team for him and think he'll have a nice calendar and plenty freedom.

    RIABUSHENKO Aliaksandr   109   9
His 2018 wasn't spectacular, but his 2nd place on that stage in Pais Vasco convinced me: he has talent and if it is nurtured, he could do great things. UAE may not be the best team for this, but we'll see.

    CONCI Nicola   98   8
Another rider similar to Riabushenko and Fabbro, in how he made his way onto my team. Out of the 3, he had the most consistently high level. No real stand-out performance, but I am eager to see how he develops this year.

    TANFIELD Harry   76   7
A little old for a neo pro, but that means he is also stronger and more experienced. Good TTer, decently talented, seems like a good bloke, was a no-brainer to me.

    CIMA Imerio   66   3
Call me crazy, but he was one of the first riders on my team. I wanted to include him last year, didn't, it worked out okay because he needed an extra year to find his way in the pro peloton. Very young still (turned 21 at the end of October) and already, he has quite fast legs. If he gets a full-blown Asian calendar, with some minor Italian races mixed in, watch out for him.

    AFFINI Edoardo   41   13
Another easy pick for me. Very strong, very good TTer. The kind of neo pro I like.

    ALBANESE Vincenzo   38   9
Yes, I still have faith and am not giving up. Dubbed by some as the new Sagan, I am not expecting him to ever reach that level, but I am convinced there is definitely quite a bit of talent in him that hasn't yet come out. Come on Vincenzo, prove me right.

    Popular riders I didn't pick:
MEINTJES Louis   79 - Too boring, not feeling it.
CAVENDISH Mark   79 - Don't believe in it.
VAKOC Petr   73 - Sad to say, but feel he will be the next Malori. Hope I'm wrong.
BOOM Lars   66 - Refuse to cheer for him.
SWIFT Ben   53 - Was on my team until the San Juan amendments made me 2 points over budget and his spot went to Rowe. A shame because I like him and think he is a more interesting pick than Rowe (who only ever seems to score in the same 3 or 4 races).
ATAPUMA HURTADO Jhon Darwin   46 - Looked at him, but really don't see it.
BAKELANTS Jan   38 - Not really I rider I can get excited about.
KÄMNA Lennard   38 - I might be wrong, but I was under the impression he had some motivational issues last year.

I'll just steal Florrys way of presenting my team:

My popular picks (in >50% of all teams):

    KITTEL Marcel   296   99
    ARU Fabio   400   96
    BETTIOL Alberto   50   92
CHAVES RUBIO Jhoan Esteban   263   90
    EVENEPOEL Remco   0   89
    NIBALI Vincenzo   693   87
    CAVENDISH Mark   125   80
    MEINTJES Louis   141   79
    VAKOC Petr   0   74
    ZAKARIN Ilnur   473   69
    FELLINE Fabio   257   63
    THEUNS Edward   191   61
    GAUDU David   299   57

My slightly popular picks (in >25% of all teams):

    BOUHANNI Nacer   441   51
    BAKELANTS Jan   120   38
    O'CONNOR Ben   219   37
    PADUN Mark   191   30

My (relatively) rare pick (in <25% of all teams):

    PLANCKAERT Baptiste   206   27
Back with Wallonie, where he scored >1000 points in 2016. I don't expect more of the same, but all those small Belgian and French races should still suit him fairly well

    KUMP Marko   54   27
His fourth time with Adria, the last two times he stepped down to conti level he scored 377 and 534 points. I don't really think he still has the speed he had back then, but he could still be in profit after the series of races on the Balkans in March already. Everything else is a bonus.

    LANDA MEANA Mikel   779   24
    Free Landa

    MARTIN Tony   248   22
2018 was Tony's first WT season (after 11 years) with less than 500 points. He is not as good as he used to be anymore, but still good enough to hit that benchmark again, also because Bianchi's TT equipment should be in his favor.

    PANTANO GOMEZ Jarlinson   157   20
a bit of a gambe, no idea what exactly is/was the state of his illness

    GULDHAMMER POULSEN Rasmus   12   16
see above. Profit should be guaranteed

    VAN STAEYEN Michael   20   14
Arb said he'll win the Scheldeprijs

    STALLAERT Joeri   34   9
Back in Belgium, where he always achieved good results.

    KELDERMAN Wilco   678   8
Wilco missed major parts of the season due to injuries, and is likely to be the leader for basically all stage races Dumoulin isn't doing. Paired with his ITT abilities, that should do.

    MARCHETTI Moreno   33   8
    The new Mareczko. Maybe.

    KEUKELEIRE Jens   351   5
A classics specialist, who missed the whole classics season in 2018. And with Lotto, he should lead basically all of them.

    BOGDANOVICS Maris   9   4
He was very solid with Rietumu in 2016 and 2017, but never set foot at Amore last year. Now with Interpro, who wants to extend its calender, he should get a sh*tload of opportunities to score points.

    TEUNISSEN Mike   384   3
Had his breakthrough year in 2018, although he often was on domestique duties and almost lost all point scoring opportunities due to an injury in the second half of the season. Now back home in Holland he should be one of Jumbo's big leaders.

    LIEPINS Emils   187   2
a bit of a fan pick

    PAGE Dylan   126   1
Page never even was on my longlist, but when Busato's price increased due to the San Juan amendments, I had to make some changes, and he fitted in perfectly. He didn't race too much in 2018, his new Iam team seems to be more ambitious in that regard. That should do, to give it a try, he is quick anyway.

    ZHUPA Eugert   63   1
The breakaway king said he wants to go for results instead in 2018.

    MOSCON Gianni
Everyone's favourite Italian has the talent to score a lot of points, and he was out for much of last year.

    VAN DER POEL Mathieu
Plans to ride many of the Classics which should net him good points.

    POWER Robert
Should get more opportunities at Sunweb, and perhaps take the weight off Dumo and Wilco.

    PHILIPSEN Jasper
Had a good year last year, should be a Leader in his new team with far more races.

    GARCIA CORTINA Ivan
Has talent and should grow nicely especially in one day races. He can climb a bit and sprint.

    HOFLAND Moreno
JV says he's going to be a sprinter again. What could possibly go wrong?

    VILLALOBOS HERNANDEZ Luis Ric
    Just a hunch.

    THOMAS Benjamin
    Poor season, could do better.

    QUINTANA ROJAS Dayer Uberney
Should be a leader at his new team with invites to decent races.

    VANHOUCKE Harm
    Hopefully will progress.

    OSORIO CARVAJAL Alejandro
I like the look of this guy and Nippo have almost no other climbers.

    ALAFACI Eugenio
    Blame Heather.

    MUÑOZ GIRALDO Daniel Felipe
As Osorio above, but will probably get fewer opps.

    KÖNIG Leopold
We can but hope he recovers from all of his ailments, whatever they may be.

I think I might be the front runner for the most boneheaded pick of this years game.

Is there any more news about Tosh van der Sande and his positive doping test?

Obviously I'm asking for a friend.

Well, there are two people who picked Manuel Bongiorno even though he retired in 2017. Perhaps they're banking on a comeback.

    My team:
    NIBALI Vincenzo   693
    GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando   602
    HENAO MONTOYA Sergio Luis   561
    ZAKARIN Ilnur   473
    BOUHANNI Nacer   441
    KÜNG Stefan   437
    ARU Fabio   400
    VAN DER HOORN Taco   396
    VAN BAARLE Dylan   361
    TOLHOEK Antwan   349
    LAMBRECHT Bjorg   337
    GAUDU David   299
    KITTEL Marcel   296
    CHAVES RUBIO Jhoan Esteban   263
    FELLINE Fabio   257
    DE PLUS Laurens   226
    THEUNS Edward   191
    MOSCHETTI Matteo   144
    BAKELANTS Jan   120
    BARBIER Rudy   90
    ATAPUMA HURTADO Jhon Darwin   61
    DE BOD Stefan   56
    KUMP Marko   54
    BETTIOL Alberto   50
    PARET-PEINTRE Aurélien   47
    DOMONT Axel   45
    HOWES Alex   44
    AFFINI Edoardo   41
    HOFSTEDE Lennard   40
    BOOM Lars   37
    KÄMNA Lennard   37
    CONTRERAS PINZON Rodrigo   36
    EVENEPOEL Remco   0

A lot of the popular riders. I don't think I have to explain the likes of Nibali or Gaviria.

    The (more) rare ones:
    HENAO MONTOYA Sergio Luis
Of course he is getting older and in the same team as Daniel Martin but in my opinion he could improve on last year's score.

    VAN DER HOORN Taco
Let's see what he can do in a full season without injuries.

    VAN BAARLE Dylan
Surprised only two people picked him. Lot's of cobbled potential

    TOLHOEK Antwan
Who does not have a soft spot for climbers who look like twelve year old kids.

    DE BOD Stefan
Had a good NC a couple of years ago. Let's see what he can do with the big boys.

    DOMONT Axel
Boring pick, but could double his score with a decent dull season.

    HOWES Alex
    Same a Domont

    HOFSTEDE Lennard
    See above

    AFFINI Edoardo
According to his DS he is the kind of rider that is better as a pro than as an espoir.

    CONTRERAS PINZON Rodrigo
    Remember the hype.

    PARET-PEINTRE Aurélien
    Cool name, very aristocratic

    KÜNG Stefan
Hope he will find his classics legs plus some great TT's.

    Nice team,

Thanks. Did not put a lot of effort in it due to illness.

I tried to come to a conclusion over which #academy sprinter to take, and ended up with "none" instead - seems like you went a different direction there :D

Is there anyone who picked more of them?

Don't think so. Nobody went for Raim, Boivin, Sbaragli (no surprise there) or Avila. Enger was a unique pick for somebody, but they didn't go for any other Geeeeks on top of that.

It's unlikely the four I have selected will set the world alight. 200-300 points would be a likely scoring range and if one could push on towards 400-500 that would be cool, but that's not what they're in the team for.

    TOLHOEK Antwan

I ended up picking him too along with his new Jumbo buddy De Plus.

It wasn't easy selecting which young climbers to go with from Jumbo. Depending on how you look at it, they have anywhere between 4-8 interesting options. De Plus got the nod from me for his TT ability and Tolhoek impressed me with his showings in some one-day races. I wouldn't be surprised if he won a big (okay biggish) one in 2019.

When I saw the first teams I became for the first time confident for my team: I did not overlook a rider and many riders I wasn't too sure about were picked by players who usually are successful. But then last year I also had many riders in common with the winner and did worse than expected. My third expensive rider being a unique pick doesn't bode well for the season. I hope Pedersen doesn't turn out as this years Theuns.

    KITTEL Marcel   296   99
Even with a bad season again he should at least double his score.

    ARU Fabio   400   96
See Kittel, although I'm less convinced.

    BETTIOL Alberto   50   92
Back with EF he should at least quadruple this score.

    EVENEPOEL Remco   0   89
Don't expect too much this year.

    NIBALI Vincenzo   693   87
His best years are over but I expect 1000 points.

    MEINTJES Louis   141   79
Boring pick but he should at least be good for 400 points.

    GAUDU David   299   57
A bit risky but I believe he steps up his game this year.

    BOUHANNI Nacer   441   51
He will at least double last years score.

    O'CONNOR Ben   219   37
Did like what I saw last year and he should get his chances at DD.

    BARBIER Rudy   90   36
Back at PCT-level he should be back to his old self.

    HALVORSEN Kristoffer   162   35
    The talent is there.

    PADUN Mark   191   30
He could have made more points last year by simply finishing the races and he will make a step up this year.

    ROWE Luke   70   28
It was a tie between him and Swift. He will get his chances (Stannard is done) and Sky will reward his loyalty.

    KUMP Marko   54   27
Back to his old team. I expect at least 200 points from him.

    LAMBRECHT Bjorg   337   23
Also a bit risky but he had a good first pro season and will get his chances.

    MARECZKO Jakub   289   22
He can be fast and I expect CCC to ride some lower tier races in Easter Europe with not much competition.

    DURBRIDGE Luke   162   21
Hope for second place in ITT nationals and he will get his chances in many classics.

    HONORE Mikkel Frølich 76   19
Took him simply because of his performance in the WC last year and being a quickstepper.

    VACEK Karel   0   14
Don't expect too much from him but Axeon should be a good team for him.

VAN DER HOORN Taco   396   10
Probably a bit risky to pick a quite high priced not really proven guy. But he is talented and I hope more classic race days will pay off.

    NAVARDAUSKAS Ramunas   133   10
A step down should translate in an accumulation of points.

    BOASSON HAGEN Edvald   686   9
I have faith he will almost double his score. Also Worlds should suit him.

    DE KLEIJN Arvid   5   9
Don't know him but he had a successful 2017.

    SENECHAL Florian   411   7
Terpstra left, Gilbert and Stybar are getting old, it's time to break through.

    ARENSMAN Thymen   46   6
Quite young and second at Tour de l'Avenir means talent.

    CIMOLAI Davide   88   5
Not very convinced but he can score in the countless Italian one day races and maybe also in MSR again.

JARAMILLO DIEZ Daniel Alexander   21   5
At one time I had 21 points left. He had some good seasons in North America, now he's my guy for lower tier Spanish races.

    CORT NIELSEN Magnus   581   3
With Valgren leaving Astana, Cort should get many more opportunities. Don't know why he's only picked by two other players.

    CAPIOT Amaury   191   3
An injury free season and Capiot has potential for 600 points.

    BARBIER Pierre   92   3
He should get his chances in the french calendar.

    JANSEN Amund Grøndahl   274   2
He seemed like a good pick, not so sure yet.

    PEDERSEN Mads   606   1
There is Stuyven and there is Degenkolb but I was convinced Pedersen will have a similar year Stuyven had in 2018. Plus the Worlds course should suit him like all the Danes.

    VERVLOESEM Xandres   0   1
The zero pointer I have no idea what to expect.

I believe we have a three way tie at the top, Carlos Algatrensig, Los Brolin and Tigerion all combining Durbridge and Hindley.  I suspect that my current joint fourth is as good as it will get.
