Update #12: Former Winners Make Their Mark

It was a dizzying week of action, with classics season in full swing, Catalunya stages every day, as well as Coppi e Bartali. It's also the end of March, so we're going to recap the monthly leaders. Let's get to it!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   ruvu75   946
    2   fauniera   897
    3   TheArt   894
    4   Googolplex   885
    5   Lortnoc   880

Last year's winner ruvu75 gets top spot this week with almost 1000 points from the likes of (in descending order of points) Trentin, Gaviria, Barbier, Bouhanni, Bettiol, Landa, Halvorsen and several riders scoring a few dozen. 2017's winner fauniera comes in second place, with 897 from a slightly different makeup to ruvu (including Bernal and van der Poel but not Trentin or Halvorsen from the list above, as well as fewer small scoring riders). TheArt, another high finisher last year, with essentially the same top scorers as ruvu minus Halvorsen.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   skidmark   (+33)
    2   fauniera   (+26)
    3   NorthAmericanScum   (+24)
    4   Lortnoc   (+23)
    4   will10   (+23)

Another former winner tops the charts on this one, as team skidmark rockets up the charts a bit 33 spots. As much as I'm happy to see my name in lights, it could only be there because the team was starting from low down - before a 22-spot jump last week, it was in the bottom 10 overall. fauniera is the bridesmaid here again but likely won't be complaining too much after moving up 26 spots, and NorthAmericanScum rounds out the podium with a 24 spot leap.

    This Month's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this Month
    1   Googolplex   2057
    2   Popchu   2029
    3   AlyKaptan   1951
    4   Lortnoc   1863
    5   Joelsim   1835

Last week's winner and this week's 4th place, perhaps unsurprisingly Googolplex has the most cumulative points in March. When you're one of 6 owners of Adam Yates and he gets 574 points on the month, it's no wonder. But 2057 points is a whole lot more than just one rider, and Googolplex has Bettiol, Gaviria, Nibali, Barbier and Halvorsen all scoring over 100 on the month. Popchu is close behind on the month, with the Bernal/Quintana combo providing almost 800 points between them, unique pick Lutsenko contributing 193, and some familiar faces like Bettiol/Gaviria/Nibali. AlyKaptan doesn't break the 2000 point barrier, but still scores almost 2000 points(!) with an even more top-heavy lineup; Yates, Van Aert and Groenwegen provide over 1200 this month between the 3 of them.

    This Month's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   AlyKaptan   (+71)
    2   Lortnoc   (+56)
    3   karaev   (+52)
    4   Joelsim   (+51)
    5   SafeBet   (+49)

The aforementioned AlyKaptan makes a huge move up the charts in March, rising 71 of a possible 109 spots. Lortnoc and karaev do pretty well as well to claim the other spots on the podium and a mention in this update.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Googolplex   144
    2   Popchu   118
    3   TheArt   104
    4   Nicosix   103
    5   MADRAZO   95
    5   just_some_guy   95

Googolplex breaks a short-lived tie for 1st overall with Popchu by having another outstanding week, their team's 4th week in the top 4 scorers this season. Elsewhere on the chart, TheArt uses 30 points this week to leapfrog several teams into 3rd overall. No other points in the top 5 overall this week.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (+1)   Popchu   3514
    2   (+1)   Googolplex   3473
    3   (-2)   Nicosix   3463
    4   (+5)   TheArt   3365
    5   (+1)   Object   3253
    6   (+5)   Salvarani   3213
    7   (-2)   MADRAZO   3208
    8   (+15)   ruvu75   3202
    9   (-2)   shalgo   3179
    10   (-)   bminchow   3157

Some shuffling around on the overall leaderboard this week, and in the end that shuffling sees Popchu emerge on top by 41 points over Googolplex, and by 51 over last week's leader Nicosix. Salvarani and ruvu75 enter the top 10, while Blues in the bottle and Amis Velo fall out.

Update #13: Bettiol and van der Poel a Safe Bet for Points

We're in the midst of the cobbled season, and with a win in DDV and 4th in the Ronde, road newbie Mathieu van der Poel made his 20 game owners very happy this week. As well, extremely popular and extremely cheap pick Alberto Bettiol came away with a wholly stunning win in Flanders. 92 teams had him, and 95 teams got more than his 285 points on the week, so he was essentially a must have. Of course, some teams had both these guys and more, and that's what we'll see in the rankings.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   SafeBet   886
    2   Kryvo   872
    3   Nyssinator   869
    4   Tigerion   833
    5   Sestriere   810

SafeBet wins the week at almost 900 points, a hefty haul for any week, let alone one without a WT stage race. Of course, the combined 590 points of vdP and Bettiol (305 and 285 respectively) go a long way to that, but SafeBet squeezed almost 300 more points by having another rider with his first pro win in Brandon McNulty (139 points, 7 teams), and a few other riders picking up a few dozen here and there (including 38 points from the other cyclocross phenom, Wout Van Aert). Kryvo almost wins the week with the same big 2, and is one of the few (5 teams) that got to reap the unexpected 175 point haul from Kasper Asgreen. Nyssinator rounds out a tight top 3, just behind at 869 points from the same 3 as Kryvo, but not quite as much juice from the supporting cast.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   SafeBet   (+41)
    2   Nyssinator   (+35)
    3   will10   (+25)
    4   Kryvo   (+24)
    5   Eyeballs Out   (+23)
    5   postmanhat   (+23)

It is still early enough in the game that there's a lot of movement - as we will see (spoiler alert!) in the top 10 overall. Most of the top scorers had room to move up the overall charts, so the list looks very similar with will10 making the podium on the strength of the week's Big Two riders and a smattering of small points.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Googolplex   144
    2   Popchu   118
    3   TheArt   104
    4   Nicosix   103
    5   MADRAZO   95
    5   just_some_guy   95

Recent week's have seen a few repeat winners share the wealth and consolidate their leads, making this ranking mirror the overall. This week went to more of the 'have nots' from the overall rankings, and so there's no change in the top 5 overall in this ranking. Lortnoc is the highest ranking team in this competition to score points this week, and their team moved into 10th place.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (+1)   Googolplex   3918
    2   (+3)   Object   3903
    3   (-2)   Popchu   3897
    4   (-)   TheArt   3853
    5   (+13)   Lortnoc   3802
    6   (+11)   Joelsim   3796
    7   (+20)   Tigerion   3764
    8   (+24)   Kryvo   3760
    9   (+12)   fauniera   3727
    10   (-2)   ruvu75   3724

Things are tight at the top, with the top 10 separated by less than 200 points, and the top 3 separated by a mere 21 points (which is fewer points than Fabio Aru has this year, for a point of reference). Googolplex leaps back up into pole position, almost at 400 points overall. However, Object is right behind after gaining more than 200 points on Googolplex this week. Last week's leader Popchu just barely drops to 3rd. Further down, a whole 5 of the top 10 switch out, with Lortnoc, Joelsim, Tigerion, Kryvo and fauniera jumping in and MADRAZO, shalgo, Salvarani, Nicosix and bminchow falling out. Phew!

This is one of the most fun weeks in the cycling calendar, with a Ronde-Itzulia-Roubaix sandwich. As well, Scheldeprijs and Sarthe occur while Langkawi continues.

Here's a question then for everybody, what are your best picks ever over the years in CQ and why? I don't just mean the best percentage return, though you can do that if you want, but the ones that were fun to follow or gave something extra other than points as well.

You can do the worst picks as well. We've all got plenty of them.

You can do the worst picks as well. We've all got plenty of them.

    Best:
Ciolek 2013 - the year that he won MSR. That was properly exciting.

Berto 2014 :flo - of course I couldn't let the opportunity pass to pick Berto and he doubled his score

Wellens 2014 - the year of his breakthrough

Paolini 2015 - the year of his epic Gent-Wevelgem win and his positive test

    Vichot 2016 - almost tripled his 2015 score (211) - and wasn't too popular

Dillier 2017 - from 190 to over 650, and that year I also had Küng who scored a handy profit, but considering their respective popularity Dillier makes the list and Küng does not

Latour, Mas, Formolo, Martínez 2018 - with Berto's retirement I changed strategy, and went all in on young guys at intermediate price but with scoring potential, and it worked out well. I finished outside top 50 in the end because I made a few risky gambles that went wrong.

    Worst:
Valgren 2015 - barely scored 25% of his pretty steep cost

König 2017 - at least I wasn't alone, but that was bloody awful

Felline 2018 - my thought process was that he was amazing in spring, and then got toxoplasmosis and missed out on many points. Unfortunately he wasn't recovered yet, and his 2018 was awful. Turned out to be a costly mistake. He's on my team again this year (though a lot more popular) and he's still looking poor.

Looking through old spreadsheets, I was shocked to find out I finished 16th once (2015) and that was despite wasting nearly a third of my budget on Berto. That might have been my year to crack the top-10...

Wellens 2014 - the year of his breakthrough

    I had him too! :karen

    Failures

2014: Luis Mansilla who "rode" for PinoRoad, the Chilean CT ghost team. Zero race days. :fp

2015: Betancur, but at least I learnt my lesson. ;)

2016: Degenkolb. Sorry Der John. It wasn't his fault, but 38% return on a 1412 investment has to be mentioned.

2017: David Drouin. Busted and zero race days. :fp

2018: Bettiol. Annoying when seeing his performances this year.

Update #14: Object Takes the Lead by the Slimmest of Margins

I think many cycling fans would join me in saying that the week of the Ronde-Itzulia-Roubaix sandwich is arguably the most enjoyable of the year. In this game, however, it was not quite as lucrative for many teams as other weeks we have had. There is certainly some shakeup, however, and the top of the standings is about as close as I can ever remember it being at any significant point into the season.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Jon_Ezeitza   535
    2   armchairclimber   480
    3   Sestriere   434
    4   Rakim   416
    5   Eyeballs Out   406

Jon Ezeitza takes the week, being the only team over 500 points. This is largely thanks to a pair of riders that cost 777 points - Max Schachmann (6 teams, 197 points this week) and Fabio Jakobsen (3 teams, 140 points). Some nice contributions from the likes of Lawless, Lambrecht and Philipsen round it out. This was a good week to have the right combo of rare riders. armchairclimber posts a very respectable second, with Schachmann and Pogacar (7 teams, 136 points) and a few others. Sestriere rounds it out again with Schachmann, and one of the happy few (4 teams) with Nils Pollitt (170 this week).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   armchairclimber   (+33)
    2   merengues   (+21)
    3   Sestriere   (+20)
    4   Eyeballs Out   (+18)
    5   vladimir   (+15)

The runner-up in the other rankings, armchairclimber goes one better here, and as importantly, moves up 33 spots in the overall! Sestriere repeats third place, while merengues gets a podium spot here thanks to the ever-present Schachmann once again.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Googolplex   144
    2   Popchu   118
    3   armchairclimber   115
    4   Nicosix   105
    5   TheArt   104

Googolplex maintains a healthy lead here; armchairclimber leaps into the top 5 on the strength of a weekly win and two second places so far, making it a feast-or-famine year so far for their team. Nicosix picks up a mere 2 points for 15th place this week, but it's enough to leapfrog TheArt in these standings.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (+1)   Object   4207
    2   (-1)   Googolplex   4205
    3   (+1)   TheArt   3986
    4   (-1)   Popchu   3971
    5   (+1)   Joelsim   3953
    6   (+3)   fauniera   3936
    7   (-)   Tigerion   3930
    8   (+11)   Carlo_Algatrensig   3923
    9   (-1)   Kryvo   3907
    10   (+5)   tobydawq   3898
    10   (+7)   Nicosix   3898

This is damn close. Object, last week's second place, outscores Googolplex by 17 points on the week to move into a slim 2-point lead. Lower down, TheArt moves back into 3rd, but below the top two it's bunched together very tightly indeed. Aside from the 11 teams here (with a tie for tenth place), the 12th and 13th teams are only 1 and 3 points back respectively, meaning teams 3-13 are separated by 91 points. There's still alot of the season to go, of course, but in the week-to-week, a podium spot seems attainable for anyone in the top 13. Carlo Algatrensig, tobydawq and Nicosix move into the top 10/11, while ruvu75 and Lortnoc fall just out.

Best pick was probably Simon Yates last year as I think he was +1400 or something and also only picked by 3 others.

Worst pick probably whenever I've picked Konig.

Something must be going seriously strange with the game this year.

I tend to agree. Still down in 95th :P

Damn, I got my hopes up when I saw Aaron Gate had run into trouble on the final stage in Belgrade Banjaluka, but Valter (who'd been in second) got overtaken by Grosser and Franczak who picked up bonifications.

Still, 66 points ain't too shabby considering the parcour of the race and he'll have plenty of other opportunities at Hongrie, Sibiu, Czech Tour, Slovaquie and Iran later in the year. A stagiaire role at the main team wouldn't surprise me, but that might not equal more points.

I scored barely any points this week :(
And I'm gutted I didn't pick Mathieu, one of my favorites for many years, I thought he wouldn't get enough opportunities to score a significant profit :angry

Update #15: Out of a skid - MvP of Classics Helps Teams Recover From Early Season Mediocrity

With the cobbled classics behind us, this week turned to the hilly classics, while low-key WT racing went down in Turkey, and the continuing drip-drip of 1.1 races here and there in the background. Clearly, with an astonishing win in AGR on top of a merely extremely impressive one in Brabantse Pijl, the 20 teams with Mathieu van der Poel were going to crowd the leaderboard this week. How did they all fare?

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   skidmark   842
    2   ChrisDK   833
    3   tobydawq   806
    4   Jakob747   793
    5   EvansIsTheBest   787

Three teams scored over 800 points this week, which is led by team skidmark (it's been awhile since I've been on top of a leaderboard, but I will resume my practice of referring to my team in the third person) ekes out the weekly win with 842 points. Aside from the massive 360 from van der Poel (to put in context, only 39 teams had over 360 total this week, or 20 with vdP and 19 without), Lambrecht came alive with 130 points over two races, the mostly ubiquitous Evenepoel got 109, Cosnefroy woke up to win a 1.1 race and get 85 on the week, and a smattering of other points. ChrisDK comes close in second with (of course) both 'Poel's (Remco and Mathieu), but a different tack with 173 points from unique pick Sam Bennett, who despite his price tag is looking like he could be a world beater this year. tobydawq manages third with the above mentioned duo, 85 from Cosnefroy, and 102 points from Caleb Ewan.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   ChrisDK   (+38)
    2   postmanhat   (+35)
    3   Sestriere   (+27)
    4   ingsve   (+25)
    5   flashke   (+24)

A bit of a different look on this ranking - ChrisDK is the only holdover from the first list, winning this one with a 38 place leap. postmanhat goes up 35 as well, thanks largely to vdP and Lambrecht (and would have been second in weekly points if their team wasn't the rare one without Evenepoel), while Sestriere nabs 3rd without van der Poel, but with an impressive combination including Evenepoel, Cosnefroy, Lambrecht, Merhawi Kudus (4 teams, 139 points this week and into profit for the year), and the continuing impressiveness of Max Schachmann.

    3   armchairclimber   115
    4   Nicosix   105
    5   TheArt   104

No changes or points in the top 5 here; skidmark's 45 points for the win puts their team at #6 overall with 100 points, and tobydawq's 30 points get their team into 9th overall. That's the only action in the top 10.

    Top 10 Overall

To see how this competition changes over the course of the season, I went back to update 10 and looked at all of the current top 10 - none of them were in the top 25 (the current top 3 were 28, 32, and 37 respectively) and 4 of them were in the bottom half of the table (Kryvo, Lortnoc, SafeBet and skidmark were 69, 70, 83 and 104 respectively). Five updates later and the table is looking a lot different. It's true that it's helpful to have a good start to this game to set a platform from which to launch, but never forget that it's a season-long game and things change all the time. This week, Object holds on to #1, but tobydawq's great week gets their team to within striking distance at #2, and Tigerion leaps into the last podium spot. This week sees Lortnoc, SafeBet and skidmark jump into the top 10, while TheArt, Popchu, Nicosix and Carlo Algatrensig (remember we had 11 in the top 10 last week due to a tie so we lose 4 and gain 3 this week) fall out.

This week sees some key pre-Giro jockeying at the Tour of the Alps, while the other Ardennes classics take place, culminating in La Grande Doyenne, marking the end of the spring monument season.

Question - is anyone interested in writing updates in the next few months? Normally I go away for remote work from April-July; this is sort of the case this year, but currently I'm nursing a broken collarbone so I won't start until mid-May, and also I might be in a location with a bit more internet than usual. Still, it's not likely I can get out the most timely updates, so if someone wants to sign up for May, June, or July, let me know here or PM me!

As a heads up, this week's will most likely be out Tuesday, unless I find some unexpected time on Monday when I'm in transit.

Update #16: Object Extends Lead with Top 5 Finish on the Week

This week saw points gained from the later two Ardennes classics and the Tour of the Alps, for the most part, as well as a few smaller races. As we transition from the classics to the first Grand Tour of the year, we are also transitioning to different riders scoring in the races. Although nobody in this game had the form-of-his-life Fuglsang, some other consistent classics performers (like Schachmann, Lambrecht, etc) are likely set to take a seat after a string of results.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   merengues   901
    2   Sestriere   865
    3   karaev   831
    4   Poles & Co.   740
    5   Object   738

A very impressive week from merengues this week, whose team tops 900 points and the weekly rankings. This is the very essence of a top heavy team this week, as their team had THREE riders over 200 points on the week (the ever-giving Schachmann with 231, Sivakov with 214, and Nibali with 200), as well as two others over 100 (106 from Lambrecht and 105 from Gaudu). Aside from that, 40 from Cosnefroy and 5 from Sean Bennett and that's it - 900 points from 7 riders, wow! Sestriere spread out the minor points a bit more, but still had the big points from all the above mentioned except Gaudu. karaev nabs third without Schachmann but the other 4 big scorers named on merengues' team, plus a handy 100 points from unique pick Andrea Vendrame (who has already nearly doubled last year's 177 points, when he was MY unique pick, dang it).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Poles & Co.   (+31)
    2   merengues   (+26)
    3   Sestriere   (+24)
    4   rote_laterne   (+23)
    5   armchairclimber   (+20)

Poles & Co leaps into the top 3 on this ranking, topping it with a 31 point leap on the back of Sivakov and Gaudu, but also rare pick Davide Cimolai (5 teams) who quietly picks up 162 points to bring his total for the season to 239 on a cost of 88; 77 points from Hirt and 67 from Kwiatkowski also help a fair bit. The other two on the podium were mentioned on the podium in the first ranking.

    This  Month's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this Month
    1   Sestriere   2739
    2   EvansIsTheBest   2441
    3   skidmark   2358
    4   fauniera   2271
    5   Kryvo   2266

It's the end of April, which means it's time to recap the month. Sestriere runs away with this one by almost 300 points, highlighted by a crazy month for Max Schachmann with 559 points. Bettiol at 338 was the next highest scorer on the team, but Sestriere was really helped by some rarer picks: Politt (297, 4 teams), Lambrecht (278, 23), Sivakov (214, 21) and Kudus and McNulty (139 points each, 4 and 7 teams respectively) really put it over the top. EvansIsTheBest comes in second, without Schachmann but that supernova Mathieu van der Poel picked up 716 in April, making the most of his truncated spring. A supporting cast of Bettiol, Nibali, Lambrecht, Gaudu, Evenepoel and such helped out as well. Team skidmark finishes third on the month with a similar lineup to EITB (ie. no Schachmann but MvdP).

    This Month's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Sestriere   (+93)
    2   postmanhat   (+57)
    3   SafeBet   (+53)
    4   EvansIsTheBest   (+48)
    5   will10   (+45)

The same name at the top on this one as Sestriere turns it almost all the way around, moving up 93 spots on a 110-spot table. postmanhat and safebet each leap about half the table to nab 2nd and 3rd on the month, as well as a feeling of relief for moving so far up the table.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Googolplex   144
    2   armchairclimber   135
    3   Popchu   118
    4   Sestriere   113
    5   skidmark   110

Some movemment here this week, as armchairclimber grabs 20 points to leapfrog Popchu into second; the aforementioned Sestriere jumps into 4th with 35 points on the week for 2nd, while team skidmark gets 10 points for 11th on the week to move into the top 5 as well.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   Object   5506
    2   (+3)   fauniera   5240
    3   (+1)   Kryvo   5154
    4   (-1)   Tigerion   5137
    5   (+6)   EvansIsTheBest   5088
    6   (-4)   tobydawq   5087
    7   (+3)   skidmark   5057
    8   (-)   Googolplex   4872
    9   (+18)   karaev   4811
    10   (-1)   SafeBet   4809

Object's 5th on the week really solidifies their team's position at the top of the field, extending the lead to over 250 points. Previous winner fauniera parlays a strong week to jump into second, while Kryvo nudges Tigerion by 17 points for the final spot on the podium. EvansIsTheBest and karaev move into the top 10 while Joelsim and Lortnoc fall out.

+5, thanks to Nibali, Gaudu and my near-unique pick Cattaneo. In profit and he usually scores well in the Italian autumn races. And he looks in great shape for the Giro. He could become one of my better picks over the last years :) Grande Mattia sei mitico!!!

For this week, I'm not expecting many points. I have no real GC hopes in Romandie, Zaka is my best bet. Gaudu and Fabbro will suffer in the time trial. Moschetti has no sprinting opportunities here surely, and Riabushenko is really a wildcard, he probably won't score but who knows. Küng disappointed a little in the prologue, hopefully he can win the final TT. I kinda feel like he's lost his power in shorter TTs in favor of more stamina for the classics. But I might be wrong.

I am unsure why Walscheid isn't in Frankfurt, I guess the parcours might be too tough. But as a German I expected him to be there.

I'm back in the top 60 thanks to Nibali, Lambrecht, Gaudu and Cimolai (who also scored nice today). My problem is my most expensive picks (EBH, Pedersen M, Cort Magnus Nielsen) except for Nibali don't score. My most expensive pick in profit is Gaudu.

Update #17: Yorkshire Proves to be a Lawless Place, Costa Living High in Switzerland

As tempted as I was to ape Carlton Kirby's many teeth-grating, eyeroll-inducing mispronounced 'waiting for Godot' puns in the Romandie coverage this week, the fact remains that David Gaudu - despite the fantastic form and two-week haul - is a fairly popular rider. It's the ultra-rare Chris Lawless (3 teams) and Rui Costa (2 teams) that really are the difference makers this week.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   yoyokt   638
    2   LightBing   632
    3   Leadbelly   534
    4   AupaPyama   505
    5   Poles & Co.   502
    5   torcia_86   502

It's a very close one this week, with yoyokt squeaking out the win. Lawless (208 points), Gaudu (218) and Eddie Dunbar (110, 7 teams) lead the way to victory by six points over second place LightBing, who had Gaudu and Costa (299 points), 90 from Zakarin and little else. Leadbelly is about 100 points behind in third, getting 90 points from unique pick Krists Neilandts on top of the Gaudu points.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   yoyokt   (+19)
    2   Leadbelly   (+14)
    3   Poles & Co.   (+12)
    3   flashke   (+12)
    5   zlev11   (+11)
    5   Martin   (+11)
    5   Squire   (+11)

As we settle into the season, the leaps are getting somewhat less dramatic than earlier in the season, but some respectable double digit jumps this week from the top 5 here. The two top spots are taken by first and third from the previous ranking, while the third spot here is split between Poles & Co. (who has a second great week in a row and is one of 4 teams to pick a now-in-profit - when is the last time that was said at the start of May - Carlos Betancur) and flashke (who gets some handy points from cheaper and rarer riders like Haller and Lawrence Naesen on top of Gaudu and Zakarin).

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Googolplex   144
    2   armchairclimber   135
    3   Popchu   118
    4   Sestriere   113
    5   skidmark   110

No changes in ranking or point totals of the top 5 here, although the week's win gets yoyokt into a tie for 6th with 105 points, and 30 points gets Leadbelly into 9th overall. Three teams scored their first points of the season this week (and one other team with no points was heartbreakingly in 16th place), bringing the total of teams with at least one point this season to 103 out of 114 participants.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   Object   5834
    2   (-)   fauniera   5609
    3   (+1)   Tigerion   5385
    4   (+2)   tobydawq   5354
    5   (-)   EvansIsTheBest   5342
    6   (+3)   karaev   5253
    7   (-)   skidmark   5237
    8   (-5)   Kryvo   5221
    9   (+6)   Nyssinator   5088
    10   (+1)   TheArt   5079

Not the biggest shakeup this week, as none of the top 10 overall were in the top 10 for the week. fauniera gains almost 50 points on Object but still trails by a couple of hundred. The biggest shakeup was Kryvo plummeting off the podium with only 67 points on the week, and karaev moved up 3 points with 12th place on the week. Nyssinator and TheArt crack the top 10, while we lose Googolplex and SafeBet.

This week is real quiet, sort of a calm before the storm - the only real top-level points are from the 3-day 2.1 Madrid race, with not many teams invited that have popular riders in this game. However, on Saturday we have our first stage of the year's first Grand Tour, and Sunday sees the start of the Tour of California. The big GC points for those will come in future weeks, so for now lets take a deep breath and get ready.

    My Giro team:
    CIMOLAI Davide
    DURBRIDGE Luke
    HONORE Mikkel Frølich
    NIBALI Vincenzo
    O'CONNOR Ben

Nibali should be in the top 5 with a possible podium, with the form Cimolai showed in the last races he should score some points in the sprint stages and hopefully get some sprint classification points.
If O'Connor is healthy he should make the top 20.
But with just one GC guy, one (not top tier) sprinter and one top 20 man my team looks pretty meh.

Bugger, after initially winning today's stage in Dunkerque Venturini has been relegated and also got a 30s penalty  :( that means not just 25 points down the drain but also the potential GC points :-x  :angry

The punishment was deserved if that's any consolation. Coquard got relegated yesterday as well. Must have been a memo sent out to UCI commissioners recently.

Oh, I'm sure it was, but it's still annoying! As I'm one of only 4 to have picked him a nice score here would be welcome. He's been going well but he needs points in races like this one to become a great pick. And I got way too excited reading he had beaten Groenewegen. It's worse to have something and then have it taken from you than to never have had it at all :(
