Update #35: Green Jersey Standings Change in Quiet Week

This week (technically last week as this update is a week late), the second week of the Vuelta wrapped, as well as a few 1.HC and 1.1 races. Not much in terms of points, and the standings were appropriately subdued. Still some movement to look at...

This Week's Top Scorers

Rank   Team   Points this week
1   Nathanptz   328
2   zaka_fan   277
3   DFA123   253
4   greenedge   252
5   Joelsim   251

Nathanptz takes the win by over 50 points this week, getting a huge contribution from Jasper Philipsen, the other costly UAE neo-pro bringing back a good haul on a fairly steep price. Having those 156 points and sharing with only 9 other teams is a good start to winning the week, but Nathanptz also had 72 from Amaury Capiot (3 teams) as well as 43 and 42 respectively from Matteo Trentin and Baptiste Planckaert. zaka fan claims second with 140 points from the now unequivocally excellent pick Caleb Ewan, as well as 70 from Sepp Kuss and 54 from Pierre Barbier. DFA123 edges out two other teams for the last podium spot led by Ewan/Trentin/Planckaert.

This Week's High Movers

Rank   Team   Up/down
1   greenedge   (+8)
2   zaka_fan   (+7)
3   Nathanptz   (+6)
3   Joelsim   (+6)
5   Josedin   (+5)
5   Googolplex   (+5)

After missing the podium by 1 point in the previous competition, greenedge tops the high mover competition once again led by Ewan. zaka fan is the second time a bridesmaid, while Nathanptz gets another podium, tying with Joelsim for third.

Green Jersey Competition

1   armchairclimber   225
2   ruvu75   218
3   TheArt   212
4   Popchu   208
5   skidmark   188
6   MADRAZO   185
7   Jancouver   183

(note: I'm going to start listing all the teams within a 45-point weekly win of the lead, rather than the top 5, until the end of the season)

After being divested of the Green Jersey last week, armchairclimber fights back with 14 points in the competition this week to move back into the lead from third. tobydawq gets 10 points to rise to juuuuust outside of these standings at 178 points, but no other movement in the top 10.

Top 10 Overall

Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
1   (-)   fauniera   12518
2   (-)   karaev   12287
3   (+1)   Tigerion   11788
4   (-1)   ruvu75   11725
5   (-)   skidmark   11568
6   (+1)   TheArt   11565
7   (+3)   tobydawq   11527
8   (+1)   shalgo   11487
9   (-1)   Kryvo   11470
10   (-4)   SafeBet   11462

A quiet week for the leaders, although fauniera (80 points) gains a few on karaev (42). Highest scorer in the top 10 is tobydawq with 213 on the week. No adds or drops in the top 10, but that is very likely to change with the next update, where the Vuelta GC plus Canadian WT races plus Tour of Britain are bound to see some high scores.

The Vuelta update might not be as bad as I first feared. Trentin, Politt, Kelderman and Knox scored decently. Couple that with the failures of the popular Aru and Chaves and I could at least hold my position.

Update #36: Jakob747 Takes off as Tigerion Cracks the Top 2

It's Vuelta GC week, likely the highest scoring week left on the calendar (barring some SERIOUS scores at the Worlds). But the Vuelta wasn't all, there was also the two Canadian races, the Tour of Britain, and a few smaller races scattered here and there.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Jakob747   1023
    2   Josedin   1008
    3   Hakkie2   1001
    4   Simurgh   978
    5   will10   952

Three teams crack a thousand points this week, and are very close together. Squeaking out the victory is Jakob747, getting 1023 points from an array of riders led by CQ efficiency god Mathieu van der Poel (274 points, 20 teams), excellent rare pick Sergio Higuita (174, 2 teams), unique-pick-that-is-underperforming-overall-but-paying-off-now Michael Valgren (103), another tier of riders scoring 50-80 on the week (Riabushenko, O'Connor, Chaves, Cosnefroy) and dribs and drabs from 12 other riders to push their team over the line. Josedin nabs second, missing top spot by only 15 points with a more top-heavy lineup that has an astounding collection of rare Vuelta talent - Josedin was one of 7 teams with Pogacar and his 445 points this week, one of 2 teams with CF Hagen and his 172 points, and the only team with MA Lopez and his 259 points. Josedin's 4th highest scorer is Bettiol with 40 points and a few guys with <20. Hakkie2 cracks the thousand mark as well as the podium, thanks to >100 points from MvdP/Geoghegan Hart/Cavagna/Ivan Garcia Cortina.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Josedin   (+17)
    2   will10   (+16)
    3   comodoro   (+13)
    4   Simurgh   (+11)
    5   Riverside   (+10)
    5   PeterB   (+10)

This will very likely be the highest jumps remaining in the competition this year... Josedin goes one better on this one, leaping 17 spots into the top 40 overall. will10 comes close, leaping up 16 spots on a Pogacar/MvdP led ticket, and comodoro leaps double digits as well thanks to Pogacar/Trentin.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   armchairclimber   225
    2   ruvu75   218
    3   TheArt   212
    4   Popchu   208
    5   tobydawq   196
    6   skidmark   188
    7   MADRAZO   185
    8   Jancouver   183
    9   Kryvo   179
    10   fauniera   178

I mentioned last week that I was going to list all the teams within 45 points of the lead from now on, but the 9th and 10th place teams are 46 and 47 points out, so heck, I'm just gonna list the top 10. The only scoring in the top 10 this week has tobydawq leaping into the top 5 with 18 points on the week, and Kryvo's 2 points for 14th on the week gets them juuuust about in spitting distance down in 9th.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   13126
    2   (+1)   Tigerion   12705
    3   (-1)   karaev   12631
    4   (+3)   tobydawq   12451
    5   (-)   skidmark   12359
    6   (+6)   Hakkie2   12347
    7   (-3)   ruvu75   12309
    8   (+1)   Kryvo   12297
    9   (+1)   SafeBet   12256
    10   (-4)   TheArt   12029

The untouchable top 2 are no more! Tigerion breaks into the top 2 that had been in a holding pattern between fauniera and karaev for several weeks - that's what scoring 917 points to karev's 344 will do. fauniera, however, scored over 600 and is sitting pretty on top by more than 400 points, and chances are looking good for them to become a two-time winner of this game. karaev still has a couple of hundred points over the next tier of teams, but tobydawq, skidmark and Hakkie2 scored around 900, 800, and 1000 points respectively on the week to dramatically cut into the lead for the podium. Despite the big GC points on offer for the week, Hakkie2 is the only newcomer to the top 10, while shalgo tumbles out.

    Up next - Worlds domination!

Update #37: Simurgh rises to a boil

In the week between the Vuelta and the Worlds, we saw a smattering of 1.1 races, a 2.1 and 1.HC here and there, and the new-look mixed TTT which gave a few CQ points as well. Who came out on top in this transition week?

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Simurgh   546
    2   HelgeBlendet   498
    3   Leadbelly   493
    4   laarsland   483
    5   Amis_Velo   476

Still some tidy points to be had from that mix of races, and Simurgh emerges on top as the only team scoring over 500 points. The way is led by the popular Edward Theuns, who finally had a good week and scored 156 points. Simurgh also had help from some rare riders: 112 from Jasper De Buyst (6 teams), 95 from Kung (14 teams), 56 from Nizzolo (10 teams) and 48 from Diego Rosa (6 teams). HelgeBlendet gets second and oh-so-close to 500 points with Theuns leading the way, flanked by 86 points from Kevin Rivera and 80 from Matteo Trentin. Leadbelly lands in third with more of a committee - amazingly, their team has two unique picks (Krists Neilandts and Jannik Steimle) win a 1.1 race in the same week, and aside from 'popular' picks Trentin and Bernal (31 and 26 teams respectively), other contributions come from 30+ points from a range of rare picks like Calmejane, Politt, Minali, and Cimolai. Good picking!

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   HelgeBlendet   (+12)
    2   laarsland   (+9)
    3   ansimi   (+7)
    3   Amis_Velo   (+7)
    5   Simurgh   (+6)
    5   Manafana   (+6)
    5   trackstand   (+6)
    5   oliveira   (+6)

HelgeBlendet is the only team to move up double digits this week, but laarsland comes close, moving up 9 spots thanks to Theuns/Rivera/Trentin. ansimi and Amis_velo tie for the final podium spot here with the same topline riders of Theuns and Trentin.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   armchairclimber   225
    2   ruvu75   218
    3   TheArt   212
    4   Popchu   208
    5   tobydawq   196
    6   MADRAZO   189
    7   skidmark   188
    8   Jancouver   183
    9   Kryvo   179
    10   fauniera   178
    11   laarsland   177

The only movement in the top 10 is that MADRAZO leapfrogs skidmark with 4 points for 14th place; laarsland gets within shouting distance with 26 points on the week, and the competition is pretty tight, as anyone in the top 11 could get on the podium with a weekly win.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   13379
    2   (-)   Tigerion   13004
    3   (-)   karaev   12913
    4   (+2)   Hakkie2   12681
    5   (-1)   tobydawq   12655
    5   (-)   skidmark   12655
    7   (-)   ruvu75   12648
    8   (+1)   SafeBet   12590
    9   (-1)   Kryvo   12522
    10   (-)   TheArt   12394

Some minor jockeying amongst the leaders; Tigerion gains 46 points on fauniera, so a Worlds win for one of Tigerion's riders that fauniera doesn't have will flip positions, all other things held equal. Karaev gains a few dozen points too but is still a ways behind. 4th through 8th is separated by less than 100 points, including a tie at 5th place, so there's still a lot to be sorted out. This week has the biggest 1-day points on offer, and although the Italian classics will probably see a bigger week, this is where an individual result can really flip things. Excited to see how it goes!

Update #38: Tigerion tightens things up at the top

Well the Worlds' Road Race is done and dusted; we have some end-of-season 1-day races, a Monument, and a Chinese epilogue to go before the close of the season, but this was the biggest remaining race on the calendar (and the biggest 1-day CQ points race out there). With some dramatic weather-induced turns of events, let's see how it all shook out and who came out on top.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   ansimi   724
    2   tobydawq   703
    3   NorthAmericanScum   701
    4   rote_laterne   685
    5   LosBrolin   606

ansimi wins the week with a healthy 724 points; some of this was due to being one of the 31 teams with Trentin and his 240 points, but the other big scorers were from the TT - Remco got 150 more to become the best 0 pointer in this game since a memorable rider in the first year of the game whose results were later nullified, and Ganna got 130 points for third in the TT (11 teams owned him). tobydawq has another good week thanks to Trentin and Evenepoel, although their top scorer on the week was actually Stefan Kung (258 points, 14 teams), who got a top 10 in both the RR and TT. NorthAmericanScum is the third team to cross 700 on the week, sans Evenepoel but with the other 3 mentioned above. Special mention to rote_laterne, just out of the podium spots but the only player of the game who had the World Champion Mads Pedersen and his 400 points this week.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   NorthAmericanScum   (+11)
    2   LosBrolin   (+10)
    3   Amis_Velo   (+9)
    3   Nathanptz   (+9)
    3   GP Blanco   (+9)
3   Blues in the bottle   (+9)

The standings are a bit more stratified at the end of the season, but 700-ish points is still enough to jump (just barely) double digits at this point of the season, as NorthAmericanScum manages to do. LosBrolin shows up on the podium of this ranking thanks to the Trentin/Remco combo but also Walscheid, who got 80 non-Worlds points. A four way tie for third rounds out the podium.

    This Month's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this Month
    1   NorthAmericanScum   2103
    2   tobydawq   2044
    3   Joelsim   2043
    4   ansimi   1958
    5   Simurgh   1942
    5   Tigerion   1942

September is the last big CQ month of the year, and NorthAmericanScum tops this monthly ranking as well as the last weekly ranking for high movers. Their team is one of 3 to clear 2000 points on the month, and their list of scoring riders is impressive and top loaded: Trentin (537, 31 teams), Kung (433, 14), van der Poel (296, 20), Theuns (206, 61), Ganna (162, 11) are the ones over 100 points. tobydawq has shown up in a few recent weekly updates and puts together a solid month as well, thanks to the top 3 listed above plus 160 for Remco. Joelsim nabs the final podium spot with over 2000 as well.

    This Month's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   comodoro   (+25)
    2   Nathanptz   (+22)
    2   NorthAmericanScum   (+22)
    4   Joelsim   (+19)
    4   HelgeBlendet   (+19)

This competition is taken by comodoro, who leaps a full 25 spots this month, thanks to two huge scorers, Trentin and Pogacar (who had 559 points and was owned by 7 teams). NorthAmericanScum makes it appearances on all 4 charts this week, jumping 22 spots on the month to tie with Nathanptz.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   tobydawq   231
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ruvu75   218
    4   TheArt   212
    5   Popchu   208
    6   ansimi   194
    7   MADRAZO   189
    8   skidmark   188

There's a change at the top! tobydawq has scored in 4 of the last 6 weeks, including a win 6 weeks ago and second this week. 108 of their 231 points have come in this span, and they've rocketed up the standings, taking a 6 point lead with the 35 they got this week. armchairclimber drops to second but is still in striking distance, as are all the teams listed here (within 45 points). Aside from tobydawq, weekly winner ansimi is the only other team scoring this week; their 45 points rockets them into the conversation as well. Still a lot to play for in this competition.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   13593
    2   (-)   Tigerion   13534
    3   (+2)   tobydawq   13358
    4   (-1)   karaev   13120
    4   (+3)   ruvu75   13120
    6   (-1)   skidmark   12932
    7   (-3)   Hakkie2   12928
    8   (+2)   TheArt   12906
    9   (-1)   SafeBet   12852
    10   (-1)   Kryvo   12795

The top spot is closer than it's been in weeks! Tigerion has a good-but-not-quite-good-enough showing this weekend, pulling to within 60 points of the overall lead. If Trentin had the legs for the sprint, we would see a new leader! The red-hot tobydawq pulls into third and is only a couple of hundred back. Behind that, it's a bit tougher of an ask for karaev or last year's winner, but with the sequence of Italian races often contested by the same riders, it's not out of the question for someone to go on a streak. fauniera, of course, has Bernal, who hasn't really raced since the Tour but if he has some form could anchor a strong defense. The next couple of weeks will be very interesting to those at the top, to say the least! No ins or outs of the top 10 this week, just some jockeying for position.

Update #39: CQ gods decree this competition shalgo down to the wire

With one monument and a one-week WT race left to go along with a handful of smaller races (must avoid commenting on the sadness that Paris-Tours is now just one of a 'handful of smaller races' at the end of the season), this one is almost done. But it's still within striking distance for at least the top two, with a few outside chances.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   shalgo   461
    2   adamski101   439
    3   yoyokt   414
    4   Hakkie2   392
    4   Rakim   392

The weekly win goes to shalgo with a healthy 461 points, thanks especially to 140 from a pre-injury Hodeg, but also a hefty haul from the likes of Gaviria, Van Asbroeck, Gaudu, Kump and Bernal. Second goes to adamski101 who was one of the two lucky teams this week with Piet Allegaert (176 points), as well as one of the 7 with Senechal (84 points). yoyokt rounds out the lowercase top 3, clearing 400 with a similar top end to shalgo.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   adamski101   (+10)
    2   Nicosix   (+6)
    2   Vitapen   (+6)
    2   yoyokt   (+6)
    2   Object   (+6)

More of a logjam here, with adamski's good week earning their team a double digit jump in the standings. It's hard to move much in a week by the time October rolls around, and four other teams split second spot on this ranking.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   tobydawq   231
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ruvu75   218
    4   TheArt   212
    5   Popchu   208
    6   skidmark   197
    7   ansimi   194
    8   yoyokt   190
    9   MADRAZO   189

These standings are still fairly tight, with 9 teams within a weekly win (45 points) of tobydawq's top spot, and a few more just outside that range. The top teams don't score, but team skidmark jumps up a few spots to 6th  with 9 points on the week and yoyokt's 30 points help them enter the picture at 190 total and 8th place.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   13931
    2   (-)   Tigerion   13811
    3   (+1)   karaev   13476
    4   (-1)   tobydawq   13473
    5   (-1)   ruvu75   13429
    6   (+1)   Hakkie2   13320
    7   (-1)   skidmark   13300
    8   (+1)   SafeBet   13190
    9   (-1)   TheArt   13178
    10   (+3)   shalgo   12984

At the top, fauniera gains 61 points on Tigerion to get some breathing room of 120 points. Having two actively posting participants at the top is very enjoyable, not least because they keep a running track of who their remaining racers are, but basically the biggest hopes are Bernal for fauniera and Trentin for Tigerion.

Below those two, it would take some doing for another team to win, but third place is wide open, with karaev clawing the spot back by 3 points from tobydawq, and ruvu not far behind. shalgo's weekly win takes them into the top 10, displacing Kryvo.

Update #40: karaev closes the gap, Green Jersey race tightens up

The final monument is done, the European season is effectively done, all we have left is the tacked-on WT stage race in China, the Japan Cup, and a few minor wind-down races. The season is done for the vast majority of participants in the game, but of course the game is not over. So how will the endgame shape up?

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   karaev   747
    2   Hakkie2   707
    3   DJW   692
    4   shalgo   651
    5   oliveira   642

A big week for karaev, scoring 747 points! The big scorer, as 25 other owners likely know, is Bernal, who adds 333 points to an already sterling season. But karaev also had big weeks from Van Asbroeck (128 points, 19 teams), Gaudu (108, 57 teams) and another decent week from unique pick Vendrame (62 points). Hakkie2 gets second on the week with the same big 3 as karaev, but smaller contributions from the rest of the roster. DJW slots into third with Bernal and Gaudu, but also points from rare picks Sosa (122, 3 teams) and Enric Mas (68, 5 teams).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   oliveira   (+17)
    2   zlev11   (+12)
    3   DJW   (+10)
    4   Josedin   (+9)
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   (+9)

oliveira wins this competition this week, with a huge (for the end of the season) 17-spot climb up the standings. Their team had the same 'big 3' as the top 2 in the previous ranking; they were just placed in the standings such that a 17-point jump was possible (3 of the top 5 in the previous ranking were already in the top 10 overall, hence not far to move). zlev11 moves up a not-too-shabby 12 spots despite finishing 14th in the Top Scorers ranking, and DJW jumps double digit places as well.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   tobydawq   231
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ruvu75   218
    4   TheArt   212
    5   Popchu   208
    6   Leadbelly   203
    7   karaev   201
    8   skidmark   197
    9   ansimi   194
    10   yoyokt   190
    11   MADRAZO   189
    12   Joelsim   187
    13   fauniera   186

An unprecedented 13 teams are within a weekly win (45 points) of the top spot in this competition as it heads into it's final big week! tobydawq still sits atop the standings, but leadbelly (20 points this week), karaev (45 for the win), Joelsim (14) and fauniera (8) all scored some this week to pull within striking distance. This one is coming down to the wire!

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   14464
    2   (+1)   karaev   14223
    3   (+3)   Hakkie2   14027
    4   (-2)   Tigerion   13981
    5   (+3)   SafeBet   13768
    6   (+4)   shalgo   13635
    7   (-2)   ruvu75   13619
    8   (-4)   tobydawq   13519
    9   (-2)   skidmark   13490
    10   (+1)   Hugo Koblet   13438

Quite the shakeup in the overall standings for this late in the season - apart from leader fauniera, every team in the top 10 moved around somewhat. You may note that #1 and #2 on the week are now #2 and #3 overall, with Tigerion falling out of the podium places.  It is looking very probable that fauniera will become a two-time winner of this competition, as their lead is 241 points; even with an incredible week, karaev only closed by 214 this week. Unless something wild happens in Guangxi and Japan, it seems likely that the top spot is going to stay the same. Third and fourth are only 36 points apart, so the final podium spot is up for grabs. Below that, there's a bit of stratification, although 6th-10th are only separated by less than 200 points. A very competitive top 10, with several former winners and high placers, as well as a good number of teams who have participated in many editions. Game founder Hugo Koblet moves into the top 10 (and has a 70 point lead on 11th), while another previous high finisher - TheArt -drops out. After next week it's not technically over, but for all intents and purposes the final standings will be set. I hope everyone has had a fun year, let's see how the rest of it goes!

Just think, if I had picked Evenepoel instead of Van Niekerk or Vaubourzeix, I'd be in second place....

Not that I ever would have ever made that selection, but I'm sure I could have found better performing zero pointers who were just as unpopular to improve my position a bit.

    Update #41: fauniera holds on

The CQ update came in the middle of Guangxi, so the GC points are yet to come in, meaning we have one week of substantial results left as tobydawq mentioned upthread (I had assumed they'd wait an extra day and release the update on the Tuesday, which I thought they did in previous years for some reason). So it's not 'over' yet, but everyone had a good idea of where things were going when this update was out on Sunday, and we certainly do now several days later.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Amis_Velo   223
    2   Londonpat   185
    3   zaka_fan   175
    4   escartin   157
    5   DJW   149

With only stages of Guangxi and the Japan Cup to really boost scores (sorry Chrono des Nations, but I don't respect you - there, I said it), we see a bit of a dropoff in top scores this week, as expected. Amis Velo takes the week as the only team to break 200 points - their team's haul comes largely from Brandle (66 points, 6 teams), Ganna (48, 11 teams), and McLay/Trentin/Gaviria who all had some stage points in China. Londonpat grabs a place of honour with points from Ganna, Neilson Powless, Gaviria and McLay, while zaka_fan has something to cheer about thanks to Sepp Kuss and some aforementioned names.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   LosBrolin   (+5)
    2   Nicosix   (+4)
    3   Manafana   (+3)
    3   zaka_fan   (+3)
    5   Nathanptz   (+2)
    5   AlyKaptan   (+2)
    5   Amis_Velo   (+2)
    5   LukasCPH   (+2)
    5   Carlo_Algatrensig   (+2)
    5   escartin   (+2)
    5   NorthAmericanScum   (+2)
    5   Salvarani   (+2)
    5   comodoro   (+2)
    5   ansimi   (+2)
    5   Sestriere   (+2)

lol. The end of the year is a funny one in this category, including the 11-way tie for 5th. LosBrolin was in a competitive enough place in the standings to move up 5 thanks to the Gav/Trentin combo, and a sprinkling of Mikkel Bjerg. Long-time game participant Nicosix gets some late-season time in the sun for making the podium, while manafana and zaka_fan tie for third, meaning zaka is the only double podium winner this week!

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   tobydawq   231
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ruvu75   218

    5   ansimi   210
    6   Popchu   208
    7   Leadbelly   203
    8   karaev   201
    9   skidmark   197
    10   yoyokt   190
    11   MADRAZO   189
    12   Joelsim   187
    13   fauniera   186

This is one that will, in fact, come down to the wire. tobydawq still leads, but 13 teams are still within a weekly win of the top spot. The only rider in this top ranking to score this week was ansimi, whose 16 points brought their team into the top 5. A reminder - the CQ game doesn't technically end until the end of the last .1 or higher race, which is looking like Fuzhou in late November. With the Tour of Hainan pushing back to next year, that leaves a gap of smaller races and probably very, very minimal results impacting this game. During those weeks, I pro-rate the Green Jersey scores if there are fewer than 15 game-participating teams who score anything on the week. So if you were the only team to score in the week, you'd get recognition on the update, but you'd only get the equivalent of 15th-place points (2 points) in this competition since you finished ahead of no one else with points. If 5 people got points, they'd get 11th-15th place equivalent points, etc. Just a reminder as this one is actually competitive up to the end this year!

    Top 10 Overall

Rank   Up/down   Team   Points   Points this week
    1   (-)   fauniera   14507   43
    2   (-)   karaev   14300   77
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   14132   105
    4   (-)   Tigerion   14056   75
    5   (-)   SafeBet   13779   11
    6   (+1)   ruvu75   13732   113
    7   (-1)   shalgo   13726   91
    8   (-)   tobydawq   13570   51
    8   (+1)   skidmark   13570   80
    10   (-)   Hugo Koblet   13535   97

I added the 'points this week' column so you could see how the top contenders gained and lost to each other (come to think of it, with CN's new board formatting, that might be a good idea for every week in future editions - thoughts?). As you can see, the other podium spots did gain some on fauniera, but it's a very direct application of the phrase 'too little, too late'. A lead of 207 points with only minor adjustments for Guangxi leaves a very, very slim chance that fauniera will be overtaken this season. The stretch run has been fun and it's been great to have a lot of forum participants talking about their teams, and the minor placings are very close, including a tie in the top 10. But the leader looks firmly entrenched at this point.

    Update #42: triley36 wins week 42

The points for Guangxi are in, and all 114 participants in the game got some points on this week's update, which I am fairly certain will be the last points for the vast majority of those teams.  Let's see how the last major week (and month!) has shaken out.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   triley36   433
    2   Londonpat   318
    3   Akuryo   315
    4   Yellow Knight   311
    5   Kryvo   306

triley36 goes out with a bang, netting over 400 points and winning the week by 115! Impressive haul for late October. Their top two riders on the week - Enric Mas (207 points, 5 teams) and Dani Martinez (149 points, 4 teams) - were enough alone to win the ranking, and on top of that they got points from Gaviria, Bauhaus, and a still-in-existence Louis Meintjes. Londonpat is bridesmaid the second week in a row, thanks to another rare pairing of Diego Rosa (120 points, 5 teams) and Antwan Tolhoek (100 points, 6 teams). Akuryo inches out a few others for the final podium spot thanks largely to Mas, and also smaller contributions from the likes of Marczynski and Kudus.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   HelgeBlendet   (+10)
    2   merengues   (+7)
    3   Salvarani   (+5)
    3   DJW   (+5)
    3   AupaPyama   (+5)

For the first time that I can remember in this game, there is no overlap in the top 5 of the two weekly rankings. The new podium here is led by HelgeBlendet, who jumps an impressive double digits on the final major week of the competition thanks to Rosa, Gaviria, Trentin and a few helpers with minor points. merengues slots a clear second place with contributions from Tolhoek and Schachmann, while there's a three-way tie for third.

    This Month's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this Month
    1   VeloRooms   1345
    2   Hakkie2   1332
    3   Londonpat   1319
    4   DJW   1306
    5   shalgo   1280

The VeloRooms collective team leads all teams this month in an extremely close contest, with just 26 points separating the top 3 teams. Their team had 4 riders score over 100 points on the month, led by Bernal (26 teams) with 383, Mas (5 teams) with 314, Gaudu (57 teams) with 170 and Hodeg (11 teams) with 140. I was going to mention last week that their team had finished in the top 15 (ie. scoring Green Jersey points) for 5 weeks in a row, but I forgot to include that tidbit in the update. Luckily, they did so again this week so the streak is 6 weeks in a row! Congrats on a strong finish, guys, the VeloRooms collective team is a really great touch on this game and I always enjoy reading the thread that creates it in December. Hakkie2 just misses out on the top spot in this ranking but will no doubt be consoled by parlaying this great month into rocketing onto the overall podium. Londonpat puts together a solid October as well to edge out DJW and shalgo for the final podium spot.

    This Month's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   oliveira   (+17)
    1   DJW   (+17)
    3   VeloRooms   (+12)
    3   Nicosix   (+12)
    5   Londonpat   (+10)

Not a ton of room to move around the standings this late in the year, but two teams managed to tie for the top spot in the High Movers ranking. oliveira had a big month from Bernal/Gaviria/Gaudu/Van Asbroeck (the latter quietly racked up 204 points for his 19 owners), while DJW was led by a combo of Bernal/Gaudu/Mas/Ivan Sosa. VeloRooms gets a double podium, sharing the last spot with Nicosix.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total   Wk42
    1   tobydawq   231
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ansimi   224   14
    4   ruvu75   218
    5   TheArt   212
    6   Popchu   208
    7   Leadbelly   205   2
    8   Kryvo   201   22
    8   karaev   201
    10   skidmark   197
    11   Londonpat   196   35
    12   yoyokt   190
    13   MADRAZO   189
    14   Joelsim   187
    15   fauniera   186

In the end, 15 teams finished within 45 points of the leader, which remains tobydawq! Barring a surprise in a 2.2 race or Fuzhou later in November, the rankings should stay the same as they are... note the added column showing which teams got green jersey points in week 42; ansimi scored to pull within 7 points of the lead, but it's only enough for a podium. Tentative congrats to tobydawq...

    Top 10 Overall

Rank   Up/down   Team   Points   Points this week
    1   (-)   fauniera   14579   72
    2   (-)   karaev   14399   99
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   14260   128
    4   (-)   Tigerion   14188   132
    5   (+1)   ruvu75   13888   156
    6   (-1)   SafeBet   13826   47
    7   (-)   shalgo   13803   77
    8   (-)   skidmark   13678   108
    9   (-1)   tobydawq   13657   87
    10   (-)   Hugo Koblet   13632   97

...and tentative congrats to fauniera! In the end, no meaningful dent was made in fauniera's lead by Guangxi; although their team's  lead was chipped away slightly in the past two weeks, there was a lot of give, and there is still a 180-point gap to karaev in 2nd place. Basically, karaev would have to have an out-of-nowhere starter in Fuzhou that won all the stages and took the overall in order to catch up. The final standings have solidified, with Hakkie2's aforementioned strong October leading to a podium spot, and last year's winner ruvu75 having a strong last week to move into the top 5. Team skidmark also breaks last week's 8th place tie with tobydawq to edge ahead, and the overall top 10 is the same as last week.

To reiterate the closing process of this game - it ends after the last 2.1 race of the year, which is the Tour of Fuzhou on November 23rd. Normally Hainan is in the interim, but it has been moved to next February to accommodate the new ProSeries or whatever it's called, meaning there's a weird gap of sparse 2.2 races  until the end. There's a 99% chance the standings will be unchanged at the top end, but I will only have a final update after the last event. If CQ sends out updates before then, I will check them to see if anyone scored, and update here accordingly. But informally, I want to thank everyone for once again participating in this game, which remains (for me at least) fun and engaging for the whole cycling season. Cheers everyone!

Thanks for all your work/updates skids! Cycling would be pretty dull without some CQ action.

Bit of an annus mirabilis for ol' Team Crash Bang Wallop. The only real duds were Kelderman, Tolhoek and Minali. Some others just did okay, but the vast majority of the team had great years - Bernal, Trentin, Gaudu, Neilands, Cosnefroy, De Plus, Planckaert, TVA, Cimolai, Valter etc etc.

It will be very difficult to repeat the trick in 2020.

Quick note - CQ actually had an update this week! Just including the 2.2 races that have been happening. I ran it through the spreadsheet and no rider in this game got any points. But I'm paying attention, and will notify this thread if anyone attains any late-season glory.

    Update #42.5: Points are Scored!

Good day, I am doing my duty in reporting that some teams have, in fact, scored some points this week in the CQ game! Here is the list of scoring teams (ie. Top Scorers):

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   zlev11   16
    2   tobydawq   5
    2   Popchu   5
    4   Sestriere   2

So, let's take a hyperbolic spin on this result and trumpet the fact that zlev11 wins the week, scoring more than triple the next competitor, and more than all other competitors combined! This is due to 16 points from unique pick and 'oh yeah, remember that guy' guy Mirsamad Pourseyedi Golakhour, who now has 16 points on the season. Hey, better late than never. Other riders in the game scoring this week: Carlos Julian Quintero (5 points, 2 teams) and Nur Aiman Muhammad Zariff (2 points, 1 team). You can probably guess which teams had which riders.

The points on offer this week weren't enough to move anyone up and down the table, so there is no High Movers list. However, the Green Jersey competition amazingly does see some movement. I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but my custom when fewer than 15 teams (the normal amount that score Green Jersey points) score in a given week, I pro-rate the points given so as not to skew too heavily for winning a sparse week, but also not to shut people out when they win. Instead of awarding 45 points to the top scorer, 35 to second, etc, I reverse-count, giving 2 points (normally 15th place points) to the lowest of the scoring teams, and then moving up to 4, 6, and 8 (and more, but this week there were only 4 scoring teams, and because there was a tie, it was 2, 5, 5 and 8 points). Anyway, all this is to say that coming into this week, tobydawq was leading the competition by 5 points, and is now leading it by 10 points! Some breathing room was created. Pochu scores 5 as well to go from 6th to 5th in the competition. So there is still potential for some surprises in the two weeks that remain (probably there will be some riders in Fuzhou scoring in the game).

Here is the top of that standings, to remind you:

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   tobydawq   236
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ansimi   224
    4   ruvu75   218
    5   Popchu   213

As for the Top 10 Overall, of course tobydawq was in 9th place coming in, 23 points behind 8th place skidmark, and now that is down to 18 points. These end-of-season points don't tend to matter, but every once and awhile there's a Vinokourov-Champs Elysees 2005 moment that can change some of the minor placings. If you're into those kind of mini changes, stay tuned through Fuzhou! Here's the standings:

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   14579
    2   (-)   karaev   14399
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   14260
    4   (-)   Tigerion   14188
    5   (-)   ruvu75   13888
    6   (-)   SafeBet   13826
    7   (-)   shalgo   13803
    8   (-)   skidmark   13678
    9   (-)   tobydawq   13662
    10   (-)   Hugo Koblet   13632

Final Update: Fuzhou Closes out Season as fauniera Crowned Champ

It's been all but official for weeks, but the CQ Ranking Manager Game has now officially closed! The most recent update saw a handful of teams score a handful of points, and this update with the season-closing Tour of Fuzhou sees a handful of teams score a few more points!

    This Week's (top) Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   tobydawq   84
    1   Popchu   84
    3   Sestriere   4
    3   VeloRooms   4

Two players chosen in this game scored this week - Carlos Quintero got 84 points, and Joseph Areruya got 4. Both were owned by 2 teams, so tobydawq and Popchu, who appeared last week thanks to a handful of points by Quintero as well, split the honors on the last week of the season.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Popchu   (+2)
    2   VeloRooms   (+1)
    2   tobydawq   (+1)

Popchu manages to slide up two spots, from 27th to 25th, to end the season. VeloRooms moves up into a tie for 87th, and tobydawq... we'll get to that below.

    Green Jersey Final Standings

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   tobydawq   243
    2   armchairclimber   225
    3   ansimi   224
    4   Popchu   220
    5   ruvu75   218
    6   TheArt   212
    7   Leadbelly   205
    8   Kryvo   201
    8   karaev   201
    10   skidmark   197

This competition tightened up through October, but in the end tobydawq's 5-point lead was extended by scoring 5 and 7 points in the last two weeks. Popchu's identical scoring moved their team up into 4th overall, while armchairclimber and ansimi maintatined their podium spots. Congrats to tobydawq!

    Final Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   fauniera   14579
    2   (-)   karaev   14399
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   14260
    4   (-)   Tigerion   14188
    5   (-)   ruvu75   13888
    6   (-)   SafeBet   13826
    7   (-)   shalgo   13803
    8   (+1)   tobydawq   13746
    9   (-1)   skidmark   13678
    10   (-)   Hugo Koblet   13632

The standings are the same as they've been since the end of Guangxi, with the notable exception of team tobydawq, who kept on scoring. It's good enough to move up a spot on the final update, at the expense of team skidmark, who slides down to 9th while no doubt cursing whoever makes up the rules to this goddamn game.

But let's not bury the lede - after a well fought and competitive CQ game season, as well as a well-discussed finale amongst the frequently-posting top end of the classification, fauniera can officially be proclaimed as a two-time CQ game champion! karaev finishes 180 points back in second, while Hakkie2 gets a place of honor on the podium as well. The top 10 has a good mix of former winners, teams that have placed highly in the past, teams that have played for a long time and have seen their best results this year, and relative newcomers.  The two two-time winners and the two organizers of the history of the game (shout out to game founder Hugo!)  are in the top 10. Participating team numbers may be down from their absolute peak a few years back, but this game is still a joy to run and to participate in, with an intelligent, fun and talkative group of participants. I'm sure some of us have been thinking of next year for awhile now, but now we can turn our full attention to it. New game post usually goes up around mid-December, so keep your eyes on this forum!

    Thanks everyone

    Thank you!

    Hmm, 110th overall ... of 114. :dizzy
I'll have to do some analysis and then hopefully put together a better team for 2020.
