The 2019 Winners and Not So Winners List
« on: January 04, 2019, 20:28 »
So which teams will be the last to get a win this year?

Last year Sunweb were the last WT squad to get onto the top step of the podium, and Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise couldn't even manage that - the shame!

Nationals don't count.

The first five stages at the TDU have gone to five different teams which is the same as last year, but with Porte and Woods being favourites for Willunga, we may get the full house this time.

EBH's victory today means we are down to the last six.

     #ag2r
     #astana
     #bahrain
     #groupama
     #jumbo
     #sunweb

We're a few days ahead of the 2018 schedule as it was 9/2 last year when the twelfth WT team got their victory. Wouldn't surprise me if we have another couple of winners in the next few days.

    Poll added.

Tough one. FDJ looks not particularly strong for Etoile but Sunweb isn't even racing for another week (and Provence the week after isn't exactly tailormade for their team either), so I'll go with them.

so with #bahrain Bahrain off the list, it's coming down to the more or less expected duel between #sunweb Sunweb and #ag2r Ag2R now.

Sunweb has Kragh in Algarve and Dumoulin, Kelderman and Walscheid in the UAE Tour, with a good chance to take a win there, I'd say - maybe even in the TTT on Sunday (morning) already. So with that stage ending before the Mont Faron finish in the afternoon, Ag2R would need to hope for Bardet, Geniez or Vuillermoz to take a stage in Haut-Var on the first two days.

Isn't the Algarve a bit more contested than the Haut-Var? I am trying to write an H-V preview right now AG2R will be a strong team in that race with Geniez for the first stage and probably Bardet for the last stage and then anything goes for the long stage 2.

I will bet on on #ag2r winning before #sunweb, but decision this weekend seems likely!

yeah, I would also think that a win in the UAE Tour is more likely for Sunweb than in Portugal.

Bjerg's GC victory today means we are down to six teams.

     #burgos
     #gazprom
     #riwal
     #roompot
     #vlaanderen
     #novonordisk

Tbh I can see two or three of these teams not getting a victory, but the poll doesn't have an option to include multiple picks, so we're stuck with one pick each.

Avoiding the ever obvious Novo Nordisk, I'm going for Burgos - best result this season so far is 18th.

meanwhile #riwal Riwal seems to have won a stage (and gc) with Kamp in Circuit des Ardennes.

Not much progress for the others, nor any races in sight where this is likely to change. Maybe Novo Nordisk has a slim chance fighting the mighty Brunei Continental Team and co in Tour of Estonia. But by the look of it, #academy Cycling Academy was thinking the same this year...

edit: I missed the "Five Rings of Moscow" this week. That could obviously be an opportunity for Gazprom, if they decide to line up for that (the last couple of years they didn't)

Those six I listed aren't correct actually. :fp

Riwal had already won via Brochner. I counted six teams missing from the first post, but I had missed Martin's win for Wanty in Sicily (despite watching it).

Good effort from Novo Nordisk in Estonia. They picked up 2x4th and a 3rd over the three stages, but the win eluded them.

Their next big chance is at the Tour of Taiyuan. It started today and with massive gaps on the first stage, there is plenty of scope for breaks to take wins. I have a feeling they could come up trumps here.
