The LCT Euro Cup starts in January and proceeds through until October. The objective is to provide fans with a year long series, that they could follow on TV and online, watching the best riders compete across the season."

On stage races ½ points are awarded for each stage (rounded up) and full points for the overall general classification.

The overall individual classification is made up by adding up the points gained in each event raced. Stuart (always around in Sibiu) has been talking about this for years, so the series comes with a lot of passion and enthusiasm to strengthen the smaller races and get it established as part of the cycling calender.

I guess with the current schedule teams and riders could vary a lot, so not sure how the overall classification may play out, but good to see it starting, and I'm looking forward to doing some points calculations over the season :cool

This adds some substance to the rumour that the Mallorcan races have Eurosport on board are once again going to be televised live.

if not, you'll always have the great alternative to the UCI gala in your neighbourhood next October at least. I heard rumors about a great singer related to an Italian wine sponsor potentially attending that event. ;)

Yes sounds positive and whilst I get that the prize money per se is from the individual events this 2nd sentence probably needs clarifying up front - no?

    Regulation 5

Prize Money is not awarded for the leaders of the Lead Cycle Tour (LCT) Euro Cup classification. Prize money will be awarded by the race organisations as per the event classifications.

At the end of the season the Lead Cycle Tour (LCT) Euro Cup classification winners will be awarded prizes as determined by the series management during the course of the season

Eurosport's schedule for the first two days is online now, and by the look of it there's only a 15 minute highlight package each evening

So, that will be the standard, RTVE highlights package. Same as their TDU live coverage was their just the TDU highlights package.
Much early season bullsh*t being put out by the Eurosport PR dept, by the looks.

My first thought looking a the races included was how much of a series will it actually be as I don't think there will be much overlap in the start lists of Gran Premio Città di Lugano and the Lincoln GP

yeah, the new press release says "through the series we will assist and support these races for the benefit of all concerned. With the races of lower classes, we will be working with the organisers to bring these up to UCI standard as soon as possible. The LCT is negotiating with more races to take part towards the back end of the season, with more races already confirmed for the 2020 season." So having a really competitive series may be more of a long term plan.

Mikel Landa suffers a major set back in Mallorca on day one of the European season:

    http://cycling.today/mikel-landa-breaks-collarbone-during-first-race-of-2019/

Quite a nice little finishing climb: small, wooded road, switchbacks etc.
Martin was an early attacker on it, but was caught by Herrada, who had also gambled early and broke free of the small bunch.

There is something charming about the race's twitter account using the rider's numbers, forcing you to check the start list to see who is involved, but I'm glad not every race does it.

Well all those names wouldn't fit into one tweet and it'd take too long to type out to be "live" coverage ;)
I prefer it this way as opposed to the usual "Valverde, Wellens and 23 others".
