Who do you think is your 5 pointer?  The spreadsheet has you down for 18.

VAN ASBROECK Tom 18

STYBAR Zdenek 5

Stybar came 33rd: only the top 30 get points in an HC race.

    Race 2/21  Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne
    or was it 2018 LBL?

Only about 1/4 of the points that were earned yesterday (expensive men at the top, apart from Doull who was unfancied, and a lower ranked race)

    Riders in the game:
TERPSTRA Niki   3rd, 72pts for the So Last Year team
LAMPAERT Yves   5th, 54pts for Laarsland, Leadbelly and Otoxiep87
SENECHAL Florian   6th, 48 for Leadbelly and Salvarani
KEUKELEIRE Jens   7th, 42 for Search
DE BUYST Jasper   9th, 30 for Postmanhat

Also 5 more of the top 20, and 4 of the five point scorers (only the top 30 get anything in HC races, whereas all finishers get at least 5 in the WT races)

    Points today
1   Leadbelly   107 (Lampaert, Senechal and a fiver)
    2   Otoxiep87   85 (Lampaert, Van Asbroek (18), Petit (8) and a 5er)
    3   Laarsland   65 (Lampaert and Debusschere (11))
    4   Salvarani   64 (Senechal, Debusschere and a 5er)
    5   Search   54 (Keukeleire and Theuns(12))

    35   MellowVelo   53

Yesterday's points are more than 80% of the total, so no surprise that the top 2 remain as they were.  Leadbelly jumps 9 places (matched by NAS further down the table) into third, and  Laarsland and Search also move (just) into the early top ten.

    Green points

New this year, and if what I have done on the spreadsheet works, I'll incorporate it into the GT games as well.

Regardless of the status of the race, or how narrow or convincing the margin, managers are to be rewarded for their position in each race.  I will use the points scale that CQ give to the top ten finishers in a Tour de France stage (80, 50, 35, 25, 15, 10, 5, 3, 2, 1), and where two or more teams share a score, I will add the points and divide them, so the two teams that shared 6th today, I add 10 points for 6th to 5 for 7th, divide that total by 2, and award each manager 7.5 points in the Green Jersey contest.

The two daily winners share the lead:
    1   JustSomeGuy   80
    1   Leadbelly   80
    3   Otoxiep87   51
    4   Tobydawq   50
    5   Laarsland   35
    5   LightBing   35
    5   Salvarani   35
    8   BlackBandit222   25
    9   Nathanptz   22.5
    10   Search   15
    11   NorthAmericanScum   7.5
    12   Del1962   5
    13   Postmanhat   3
    14   Bminchow   2.83
    15   RoteLaterne   2.5
    16   Flo   2
    17   GPBlanco   0.33
    17   Triley36   0.33
    19   All other teams   0

The spreadsheet is here: as ever, it will not move but I might not post the link in every update.  You will notice one other new feature in the spreadsheet although I haven't extracted anything from it in these opening posts: a page showing how many riders each team has in common with each other team (the most similar teams share 8 men).

Maybe someone will check if they can find a better "So Last Year" combination than I could find: the data is on the 'Price' page.

ThePirate81 over at CN points out that Jasper Philipsen is now acknowledged as having finished 24th in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, having initially been omitted from the results.
So 5 points to teams with Philipsen (BlackBandit222, Blues in the Bottle, Bminchow, Chiron, Joelsim, Josedin, North American Scum, Otoxiep87, ThePirate81) : nobody picked the now 31st placed and therefore pointless Kasper Asgreen.

    Changed scores marked*
    1   JustSomeGuy   308
    2   Tobydawq   279
    3   Leadbelly   207
    4   LightBing   205
    5   Salvarani   203
    6   Otoxiep87   199*
    7   Nathanptz   191
    8   BlackBandit222   174*
    9   Laarsland   152
10   Bminchow   144* (up one place)
    11   Search   141
    12   RoteLaterne   133
    13   Del1962   129
    14   Flo   122
    15   ThePirate81   119*
    16   GPBlanco   110
    17   LosBrolin   106
    18   NorthAmericanScum   105* (up 3 places)
    18   Triley36   105
    18   Armchair   105
    21   Kazistuta   104
    22   Joelsim   91* (up 3 places)
    22   Vladimir   91
    22   Safebet   91
    25   Comodoro   89
    26   Blues_in_the_Bottle   85* (up 3 places)
    26   SemirS   85
    28   Chiron   84* (up 2 places)
    29   Postmanhat   82
    29   Madrazo   82
    31   AmisVelo   75
    32   Josedin   71*
    33   Scrool07   61
    34   PremierAndrew   56
    35   MellowVelo   53
       SoLastYear   108
       CollectiveWisdom   132

It also changes the Green Jersey somewhat:
    1   JustSomeGuy   80
    1   Leadbelly   80
    3   Otoxiep87   51
    4   Tobydawq   50
    5   LightBing   35
    5   Salvarani   35
    5   Laarsland   35
    8   BlackBandit222   25
    9   Nathanptz   20
    10   Search   15
    11   NorthAmericanScum   10*
    12   Del1962   5
    13   Bminchow   4.5*
    14   Postmanhat   3
    15   RoteLaterne   2.5
    16   Flo   1

In an effort to not be too late with updates, I post as soon as I can after CQ put up the full finishers list
(I can't do much before that, which is usually quite a delay already), and I can't promise to always notice all subsequent alterations to the result sheet, so please do point it out if it happens on other races.  I will assume that CQ is (eventually) correct if results services vary, unless there is overwhelming evidence that they have made a mistake (although in my experience they are flexible and humble enough to acknowledge and change).  Maybe I should allow 24 hours or so after the final race before I declare a definite result.

    1.) No LE SAMYN !?!?

2.) JSG might be kicking my as but atleast I’m ahead of Search for now.

3.) I was beginning to wonder if Philipsen was going to get me any results.

4.) Keisse deserves a result after being taken out in the KBK sprint, I guess no one feels sorry for him on International Women’s Day.

5.)This looks like a ton of work or some excellent Excel skills thank you ArmChair.

No-one picked the top 2, only Tobydawq has both Van Aert and Stybar, and only Scrool combines Van Aert and Benoot: one of them will probably be the top of this game.

    Race 3/21 Strade Bianche

180 points won today, MSR as a stated goal, and the Ardennes to follow, maybe Alaphilippe will prove to be the key to success that nobody tried in this game.

Those in today's top ten that we did pick:
VAN AERT Wout   3rd, 92pts for 15 teams
STYBAR Zdenek   4th, 78 for JustSomeGuy, LightBing and Tobydawq
BENOOT Tiesj   5th, 70 for LightBing and Scrool
VAN AVERMAET Greg   6th, 62 for Black Bandit 222
LUTSENKO Alexey   7th, 54 for Armchair Cyclist, Del 1962 and Salvarani
WELLENS Tim   10th, 36 for JSG
also 4 more of the top 20, and 10 other 5 point finishers, were among our picks

    Points today
    1   Scrool07   181 (Van Aert, Benoot, Durbridge (14) and a fiver)
2   Tobydawq   180 (Van Aert, Stybar, 2 fivers)
    3   LightBing   163 (Stybar, Benoot, 3 fivers)
    4   Del1962   146 (Van Aert, Lutsenko)
5   JustSomeGuy   133 (Stybar, Wellens, Durbridge and a fiver)
    6   MellowVelo   122
    7   Blues_in_the_Bottle, Josedin   117
    9   Postmanhat, Madrazo   111
    11   AmisVelo   107
    12   Chiron   102
    13   Bminchow, PremierAndrew   97
    15   GPBlanco, Triley36, SemirS   92
    18   BlackBandit222   81
    19   Armchair   75
    20   Salvarani   59
    21   Laarsland   54
    22   Leadbelly   45

    27   NorthAmericanScum   25
    28   Safebet   24
    29   LosBrolin, Vladimir   19
    31   Nathanptz, RoteLaterne   14
    33   ThePirate81   10
    34   Search,    Comodoro   5
       SoLastYear   5
       CollectiveWisdom   116

    Green Jersey

Two second places beats any of the three winners in a race so far, even when paired with a fifth place.
    1   Tobydawq   100
    2   JustSomeGuy   95
    3   Scrool07   80
    3   Leadbelly   80
    5   LightBing   70
    6   Otoxiep87   51
    7   Salvarani   35
    7   Laarsland   35
    9   Del1962   30
    10   BlackBandit222   25

    Standings
The three Stybar teams make up the podium, but Tobydawq becomes the top one of them. Del has a 9 place jump into the top ten, but that is as nothing compared with Scrool's 25 place leap from the bottom three to the top ten.
    1   Tobydawq   459
    2   JustSomeGuy   441
    3   LightBing   368
    4   Del1962   275
    5   Salvarani   262

    15   Triley36   197
    16   Postmanhat   193
    16   Madrazo   193
    18   Josedin   188
    19   Chiron   186
    20   AmisVelo   182
    21   Armchair   180
    22   SemirS   177
    23   MellowVelo   175
    24   PremierAndrew   153
    25   Flo   152
    26   RoteLaterne   147
    27   Search   146
    28   Kazistuta   143
    29   NorthAmericanScum   130
    30   ThePirate81   129
    31   LosBrolin   125
    32   Joelsim   121
    33   Safebet   115
    34   Vladimir   110
    35   Comodoro   94
       SoLastYear   113
       CollectiveWisdom   248

I'm not expecting many points from the Industria e Artigeano (did that name from memory, almost certainly got it wrong) tomorrow, but there will be an update, and it is just as relevant to the Green Jersey competition as Paris-Roubaix.

I did think of a GVA team too but wasn't too sure about his support from real life teammates. But in this game going top heavy almost always pays off.

Kittel has to win Scheldeprijs and Frankfurt then he's a good pick. It seems Haussler won't race that much so you are probably right.

Race 4/21: GP Industria & Artigianato (GP Larciano)
No selected rider in the top ten...

    (An hour later)
still only the top ten available...

    (bit later)
No chosen rider among the top 30 who get points

    (later still)
No chosen rider among the 90 finishers.

I know I said that this would contribute just as much to the green jersey competition as any monument: it would if I averaged out the points and gave everyone 6.47, but if you don't mind, I don't think I'll bother.

    Race 5/21 Ronde van Drenthe

After the completely pointless GP Larciano last weekend, the Ronde van Drenthe didn't produce much more this week.  I guess that the WT teams have their eyes on Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico, so their riders, and our picks, are largely absent.

I guess with more races becoming WT, those that are still 1.HC get less attention.  We'll have some chat at the end of the game about how to select races for next year, but for now, I said it was in, so it is.

PLANCKAERT Edward   7th, 42 pts for Just Some Guy
DEMPSTER Zakkari    21st, 5 for Blues in the Bottle
SPENGLER Lukas    24th, 5 for So Last Year, and therefore not counted for Green Points
    ALLEGAERT Piet   27th, 5 for Otoxiep87

Blues itB moves up 2 places to 11th, Otoxiep remains in 10th, and JSG retakes the lead, 24 ahead of Tobydawq rather than 18 down.

80 Green points to JSG, and 42.5 to the other two scorers. That means the points for positions 4-10 should be shared among the other 32 teams.  But rather than give them all 1.91 points, and on the same principle as I didn't give everyone 6.47 points last week, I'll take that amount off the three scores that were achieved.
    So that'll be 78.09 and 40.59.
    1   JustSomeGuy   173.09
    2   Tobydawq   100
    3   Otoxiep87   91.59
    4   Leadbelly   80
    4   Scrool07   80
    6   LightBing   70
    7   Blues_in_the_Bottle   44.59
    8   Salvarani   35
    8   Laarsland   35
    10   Del1962   30

Let's see whether Nokere Koerse on Wednesday is a bit more impactful on the scores.

I know you said after the game but it adds a dimension to the game trying to pick up points in lesser races as well.

I am biased at the moment ofc but that is why I picked my man Edward

Man, I thought that was lining up to be a Matthieu Van Der Poel victory, now he’s probably out for the rest of the Classics!  The English commentator I had was unable to identity MVP for several minutes.  Every MTB and CX fan was probably slack jawed during this time as the most famous rider in the race in a National Championship kit no less lay unidentified in the fence.  Amazing how people can’t identify cross discipline cyclists.  (That said I’m unfamiliar with the winner)

Speaking of Cross Discipline riders I’m excited to see all the young Americans headed to Europe for the Classics over the next month including the US National team, Lux Jr squad, Arapahoe-Hincapie and Hagens Berman Axeon (in this race, recent alumnus finished 3rd).  But, recent winner of the Redlands final stage Quinn Simmons was a multi time mountain bike championship & International competitor at some sort of Telemark ski competition.  He transitioned to Road last year after contacting Roy Knickman and finished 3rd at Ghent Wevelgem and 7th at Roubaix as a first year Junior 17-18!  Wow the next Farrar or Hincapie ??!

MTB and CX notwithstanding, MvdP is the Dutch champion. A commentator should know who the various national champions are (definitely of the big nations, of which the Netherlands is one).

    Race 6/21 Nokere Koerse

This race might have had a much bigger effect on the game (and the classics season) than the points it has yielded, although more recent announcements suggest that Van Der Poel's  injuries are not as bad as feared (I thought Gerts' and Moschetti's falls looked even nastier) and his schedule might be unaffected.

    PHILIPSEN Jasper   3rd, 72pts for 9 teams
DEBUSSCHERE Jens   9th, 30pts for Bminchow, Laarsland and Salvarani
NAESEN Lawrence   10th, 26 for Laarsland and Tobydawq
    PLANCKAERT Baptiste   14th, 12 for 4 teams
    ALLEGAERT Piet   18th, 8 for 1
    DEMPSTER Zakkari   23rd, 5 for 1

    1   Bminchow   102 (Philipsen & Debusschere) (80 Green Points)
    2   Otoxiep87   80 (Philipsen and Allegaert) (50 GPts)
    3   BlackBandit222, Blues_in_the_Bottle, Chiron, Joelsim, Josedin, NorthAmericanScum, ThePirate81   72 (13.57 G Pts each)
    10   Laarsland   56 (Debusschere & Naesen) (1 GPt)
    11   Salvarani   30
    12   Tobydawq   26
    13   AmisVelo, LosBrolin, Madrazo, Scrool07   12
    17   All others   0
       SoLastYear   5
       CollectiveWisdom   0

    Green Points
Otoxiep was 3rd, now 2nd, and Bminchow comes up from nowhere.

    Standings

The back and forth at the top of the table between Tobydawq and JSG continues: Toby's turn at the top, but only by 2 points.  Bminchow (5 places) and Ototxiep (4) have the most significant top ten rises, Blues in the Bottle and Laarsland enter the top ten, and further down, the biggest leaps are made by Joelsim (10 places), Pirate81 (11) and NAS(12).

Race 7/21 Bredene Koksijde (but the spreadsheet still refers to Handzame)

Bit part players from our teams mainly, so not many teams taking anything here.

    HALVORSEN KRISTOFFER    2nd, 84pts for 5 teams
    NAESEN Lawrence   7th, 42 for 2 teams
    BARBIER Rudy   10th, 26 for 2
    BOECKMANS KRIS   16th, 10 for 1
    FILOSI Iuri   17th, 9 for 1
    KEISSE Iljo    29th, 5 for 2

1   Laarsland   126 (Halvorsen and Naesen, 80 Green Pts)
2   Safebet   110 (Halvorsen and Barbier, 50 Green Pts)
3   Chiron   94 (Halvorsen and Boeckmans, 35 Green Pts)
4   LosBrolin   93 (Halvorsen and Filosi, 25 Green Pts)
    5   Postmanhat   84 (15 GPs)
    6   Tobydawq   42 (10)
    7   Bminchow   26 (5)
    8   BlackBandit222, Josedin   5 (2.5 each)
10   All others   0 (0.04 G Pts each, so even I am off the mark)

    Green Points
The top 2 didn't score today, but Laarsland is up from 10th to 3rd, and 2nd place on the day gives Safebet a top ten appearance with his first points.
    1   JustSomeGuy   173.13
    2   Otoxiep87   141.63
    3   Laarsland   116
    4   Tobydawq   110
    5   Bminchow   89.5
    6   Leadbelly   80.04
    6   Scrool07   80.04
    8   LightBing   70.04
    9   Blues_in_the_Bottle   58.2
    10   Safebet   50

    Standings

For the first time, the lead is extended rather than swapped back, Tobydawq taking a lead into the first Monument.  Laarsland (op from 10th) and Bminchow finally break up the dominance of the Stybar teams. Chiron moves up 6 places to get into the top ten, and the rise of the day plaudits (16 places) are shared by Safebet and Los Brolin.

The biggest favourites for Milan-San Remo aren't picked for the game (with the exception of Gaviria), but the unpredictability of that race, and the higher number of points available, mean that we should expect considerable shake up in the table.

Only the first 12 from MSR up so far, but SemirS has Naesen as a unique pick, and has Van Aert.  Three riders, including leader Tobydawq, combine Van Aert with the other popular pick in the top ten, Trentin.

    Standings

The close battle has turned into a dominant lead, with the closest contender this morning being second last on the day. It is now combining Van Aert and Trentin, (rather than having Stybar) that defines the podium, but having Stybar as well provides a large margin of lead. Josedin and Del1962 move into the top ten, but their rises are as nothing to that of Semir, who has jumped 22 places to 5th.

    Race 8/21: GP de Denain

The fall at the bottom of the hill in Nokere last Wednesday was not as terminal to MvdP's spring season as first thought.

VAN DER POEL Mathieu  1st, 140 pts for 13 teams
BARBIER Rudy  17th, 9 points for 2 teams
DEMPSTER Zakkari  25th, 5 for the So Last Year group

The MvdP teams, getting 140 points and 17.38 Green points each, are:
    Amis Velo
    Armchair Cyclist
    Blues in the Bottle
    Chiron
    Del 1962
    Joelsim
    Madrazo
    Premier Andrew
    Search
    SemirS
    ThePirate81
    Tobydawq
    Triley36

The teams with 9 points for Barbier are:
    Bminchow
    Safebet

    Green points

Chiron moves up one place, SemirS moves away from the 3-way tie, and Blues in the Bottle appears in the top ten.

    1   JustSomeGuy   173.13
    2   Tobydawq   162.38
    3   Otoxiep87   141.63
    4   Laarsland   116
    5   Chiron   115.95
    6   Bminchow   114.5
    7   SemirS   97.42
    8   Leadbelly   80.04
    8   Scrool07   80.04
    10   Blues_in_the_Bottle   75.58

    Standings

Of the top 13, all but Bminchow and JSG have Van Der Poel.  Madrazo, Joelsim and Triley36 are new in the top ten, all with 9 place rises, although three teams went one better, Premier Andrew managed a 12 spot jump, but Pirate81 tops the pile by jumping 13 spots.  SemirS gets onto the virtual podium, despite a team featuring one retired rider and I reckon 4 others who will not even start one of these races.

All off to De Panne on Wednesday, but remember it is only for one day.

Race 10/21: De Panne (the last two races have been misnumbered)

Lots of the big name (ie expensive) sprinters hoovering up the main points here, but some left for some of us

GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando   2nd, 108pts for 3 teams
    HALVORSEN KRISTOFFER   6th, 62pts for 5 teams
    TEUNISSEN Mike   10th, 36pts 3 teams
    NAESEN Lawrence   14th, 22pts 2 teams
    VAN STAEYEN Michael   21st, 10pts 3 teams
    BOECKMANS KRIS   22nd, 9pts 1 teams
and 29 different 5 points finishers

    1   Kazistuta   128 (Gaviria, Van Staeyen and 2 5ers: 80 Green pts)
    2   Joelsim, PremierAndrew   118 (Gaviria and 2 5ers: 42.5 Green pts each)
    4   Laarsland   89 (Halvorsen, Naesen and 1 fiver, 25 G pts)
    5   Chiron   76  (Halvorsen, Boeckmans and 1 fiver, 15 G pts)
    6   LosBrolin, Postmanhat, Safebet   72 (Halvorsen and 2 fivers, 6 G pts)
9   Vladimir   61 (Teunissen and five fives: 2 pts)
10   Flo, Leadbelly   51 (Teunissen and three fives: 0.5 pts)
    12   Tobydawq   32
    13   NorthAmericanScum, Search   30

    Green Points
Kazistuta's victory on the day gets into the top ten, no change in the upper ranks.

SemirS in third place scored so low today that the top two now have a huge gap.  Joelsim (4th from 9th) and Premier Andrew (6th from 12th) stake a place among the challengers for the minor placings, Laarsland nudges into the top ten, and Kazistuta has a ten place leap of the day.

About halfway through: the remaining races are, on average, of a higher status than those already raced, and on those grounds, might be expected to yield more points, but we always see a big change in the selection of riders, and teams, that score after Paris-Roubaix.

E3 on Friday, Gen-Wevelgem on Sunday: races coming thick and fast.
