in this case it seems to be a contractual thing though?! RCS had agreed with Sagan/Bora that he would do the Giro at the original date, and apparently that contract still seems to be valid

a little update from Sibiu: The government yesterday has announced that sports events outside (without spectators) will be allowed again on from June 1st, and (if I understood it correctly), the Romanian Cycling Federation also got approval from the sports ministry that the race can take place as scheduled.

At the moment, boarders are still closed for air travel until June 15th though, and no definite announcement has been made yet whether this will change afterwards, and if so, if foreigners can enter the country without a two-week quarantine - which obviously would be a necessity.

Most other countries will open up for Europeans at that date, so there's reason to believe that the race can take place, but unfortunately it's not definitely sure yet.

#nippo Team NIPPO DELKO One Provence seems to see a chance to get a late invitation for this year's Tour de France:

Grosu thinks so, at least: "I have hopes, as some teams may withdraw due to the pandemic and then we will participate. We'll find out in mid-June."

Difficult to see teams withdrawing that early (mid-June) from the race.

Sure, if in the month leading up to the race a selected rider comes down with the virus and the whole eight man team and a reserve or two (who he has been training and racing with) has to self-isolate then you could see a team withdrawing, but if that happens to two or three teams or if the infected rider has been in contact with riders from lots of teams, then the whole shebang could be cancelled.

yeah, can't really see it happen either.

For Sibiu, some things have changed as well, by the way. The government has now released a fairly long list of requirements for sports events to be allowed to happen, and if those are taken very literally ("no spectators" needs some clarification, for example), it could make things fairly difficult.

#medellin Team Medellin has asked the UCI for a special permission to be allowed to start in the Canadian WT races

    Quote
As a Continental team, Team Medellin does not have access to the WorldTour events, even by invitation. Nevertheless, José Julián Velásquez, Sports Director, certifies their request to the UCI to defend their leadership of the UCI America ranking.

"We have sent a letter to the UCI requesting special permission to participate in two World Tour races, the GP Québec and the GP Montréal, to be held in September", he says. "Because of the pandemic many races have been cancelled in America and we want to strengthen our calendar and continue to be the best in the America's ranking", he highlights. The two Canadian classics are scheduled for September 11 and 13, respectively, coinciding with the Tour de France and Tirreno-Adriatico.

probably, but I'd guess they'd find a replacement, at least for the men's race.

They could take that on to another level by adding Rainbows to prize for winning Flanders or Roubaix - that would be pretty special!

Sounds like the organisers and, more importantly, the local authorities are keen to make it happen.

Peccioli has several hills close by, but those are relatively short. A bit further north, and included in last year's Giro della Toscana before finishing in Pontedera, is the Monte Serra. A lap of the Monte Serra would be ~31 km - quite a bit longer than the lap around Martigny (~20 km), but with a similar climb. Add another 10 km or so at the end to reach Pontedera ... or host the finish in Vicopisano, right after the descent.

    It could work.
