And if they didn't use the ridonculous "Tour de Yorkshire" and "Côte de Some-English-Name-Or-Other" names, it'd be even better. :cool

In other news, the Middle Eastern calendar will be very slim this year.
Probably no *om Tour of Oman:
    https://twitter.com/raykerckhoffs/status/1219552263703842816

And no *il Tel Aviv Classic either:
    https://twitter.com/EyalFidel/status/1219570457592180736
TAC isn't on the UCI calendar anymore (where Oman still remains for now), so this one is pretty certain.

Aso sent out a press release with the route for Tour of Oman on the 16th (4 days after the Sultan died), they must have contracts and stuff, I guess?! And it's not like they will have a month-long national mourning or something like that - why should it be cancelled? Because the new Sultan doesn't like cycling?

At least it's not like in Thailand where everyone - including tourists - could wear only black for a year when the king died ...

... though Thailand didn't cancel its bike races as far as I remember.
But it must have been hard to tell teams apart with them all clad in black! :lol

Usually that doesn't take the death of a royal. Light rain has the exact same effect.

Yesterday, Prague hosted a meeting with representatives of ASO about the possible start of the Tour de France in Prague.

According to Prague councilor Vít Šimral, who is in charge of education and sport, Prague is interested in hosting the start of the two most important Grand Tour in the coming years. in addition to the Tour also Giro d'Italia. There is nothing certain yet, but the negotiations are going and they look hopeful.

On stage 5 they apparently failed to find a hill, but put in a KoM point anyway. (Unless I have misinterpreted the B symbol).

The B is for bonus second sprints, I think. Sometimes at the top of a hill, sometimes on flat road.

Tour of Oman will now be held 3-8th March. Clashes with Strade and the start of Paris-Nice, and of course many who ride Strade will go on to TA, so I suspect that rules out pretty much all of the top-riders.

It might be able to pick up some the teams/riders that would have been going to Hainan.

Anyway due to the circumstances, you'd think the UCI wouldn't be too harsh on them if they couldn't cobble together the 10+ WT/PCT teams they need this year.

Agree, could be a good opportunity for some of the lesser teams and even a Conti or two.

I think (outside Europe) they need 8 WT and/or PCT teams, don't they? I couldn't find a full list of teams, but the way I understood it, they initially had 9 WT teams + some PCT, so 8 could still be within reach.

Problem is that continental teams need to fulfill those UCI anti doping criteria to be allowed to participate, so they could struggle to get a full field together. I think Terengganu was supposed to take part anyway, but on the list of eligible teams I can't see too many others who could make the trip. Maybe Amore e Vita, Tarteletto or Vino

due to road works, the UAE Tour had to scrap the new, fairly good looking Rafisah Dam stage

Instead they will do the same stage twice now

It's clearly not the same stage search, the second one has a 4m descent to navigate.
