Looks like Tosh and Marczynski aaccepted a massive pay cut, and are staying for another year now nonetheless.

I did have a bit of a laugh at the shameless volte-face in the official tweet announcing the news. Late September they were ready to be jettisoned with little ceremony, but a few weeks later they're now described as "indispensable".

yeah, but to be fair, Marczynski was on a three-year deal, signed right after winning two stages in the 2017 Vuelta, so he probably can't complain about a bad money/effort ratio during the past couple of years :dizzy

Yesterday @cirogazzetta said that #bahrain Battaglin would likely sign for #bardiani Bardiani, by the way, but that tweet has since been deleted. So either it's incorrect, or there's an official announcement form Bardiani due, they didn't want to be spoiled.

#bahrain Enrico Battaglin --> #bardiani Bardiani CSF Faizanè

The team at least looks very happy about the signing ;D

Confirmation. He did do rather well in Portugal.

The team said yesterday, when they announced the extension of the Rally sponsorship, that the team would have 17 riders in 2021. I queried this with them as the UCI regs stated previously that non-Euro ProTeams needed at least 18 riders next year. However it turns out that at least for next year it is still just 16.

Anyway with De Kleijn, Sheffield and Swirbul (and maybe more - Guegan would be nice) all joining that means some will be leaving/retiring. Anderson, Britton and J. Murphy would be obvious choices.

It's a shame they couldn't go PCT as planned. Got a few good riders now and Nommela, Havik and Budding might have returned to the fold to really give them a good level. They might still do if they can't get rides at a higher level.

Edvald Boasson Hagen gets some Totally New Energy?

Is Terpstra still going to ride with #tde? I think that's a good pairing.

(Wish it was #uae Kristoff instead of Hagen[1] but this still looks quite good,  although Hagen's language barrier relative to french-speaking teams may become a problem. )

If AG2R #ag2r 2021 is supposed to be all about the re-vamped classics squad with Greg and his friends, this - letting go of Dillier and letting him go to a likely important role in the squad built more or less single-purposedly to deliver one of the strongest competitors to the designated point where the final long-range attacks will be launched: BIG FAIL!

French teams continue to impress with the most weird  decisions.

    Final signing.

In addition to Anderson, who is retiring, the other leavers are Magner, John Murphy and Ellsay. The latter had a bad crash in Portugal. Not sure if that is part of the reason for his omission.

So Harry Tanfield drops two divisions to grab a contract, any contract, at Ribble Weldrite. Its certainly a really challenging contract market out there; and we have seen riders like Blythe and Thwaites bounceback, but 2021 is a big challenge for Harry.  Some feedback commentary around the news has questioned his capability as a WT rider suggesting tier 2 or tier 3 will be his career home - we shall see!

Its also really unclear to me who the GB 3rd tier teams will be racing against in 2021 if races go ahead; there are so few squads that it will  probably vs the best of the club riders; with sporadic invites to continental races; but surely a fairly limited 'shop window' opportunity?

Zikoland says Unzue is being a bit economical with the actualité. Lopez has signed 100% according to them.

Maybe there is some haggling over him bringing a buddy from Astana that's holding up the announcement?

Has a feeling of "last chance saloon for minimum wage" about it.
I wonder if they can combine the NTT riders they retain and these new semi-random signings into a team.

in parts, yes, but I'd actually surprised if Clarke is that cheap. He always tends to get his results (Winner of the Drome Classic in 2020, 2nd in Amstel 2019, Vuelta stage win 2018...) when an opportunity for him arises.

On one hand, yes - but on the other hand, you can't really say "tiny budget, offering riders minimum-wage contracts only" and then splash out more than that on somebody.

Not without the other signins (or re-signings) at minimum wage being less than enthusiastic about it, anyway.

well, but what else are they supposed to do with the money, even at an 8 million Euro budget, they probably have 5 of those (or even more) to play with for ~30 riders. I don't think Nizzolo would have re-signed at minimum wage, for example - more like 10 times the amount.

As long as they're forthright about it, okay. But if I were a rider applying for a contract with this team (as many currently are) and was told "sorry, we can't pay you the 80k you got until now and that you're worth, only the minimum 40k - but we will pay another rider half a million" ... I wouldn't exactly feel valued by the team.

Putting it another way, I would manage the situation like this:
The big earners would have to accept a significant cut - e.g. from 500k to 250k, still very much a whole lot of money - or try to find a contract elsewhere (and Valgren, EBH, or Meintjes have done just that). The smaller earners, meanwhile, would go from 90k to 70k or similar.

Scottish cycling is enjoying a bit of a renaissance. Archibald at PCT and now two on mainland European CT teams. Onley at Sunweb Devo is the other.
