not selecting him for the Tour was pure stupidity.  People management obviously not their strong suit.

    Got to wonder why they didn't do a mid season transfer.

    Yes, it looks weird but, could budget limitations be very important in this?
    There´s nothing wrong with their sprint train without Matthews. On the first stage of Tour de France practically the entire podium came into Nice on the #sunweb train and that includes a few non-paying passengers that were able to jump on board at crucial moments. Today they scored 2nd again with Hirschi. Summed up so far, one of the best teams in TdF this year (too early to say, but the results always says something.

    It is an usual way of running a WT team (like a development team in WT clothes?), but despite how awkward it looks, they are not in crisis, they are just operating in a different way. Best at succession planning, because they have to?

    Is this team primarily about  making money for their owners? Some of their decisions seem to have more business logic than sports performance about them. Now there are no men left of the generation that won the Giro and dominated the Bergen Worlds in 2017. It seems a bit more stable on the women´s team. (I guess Rivera is still there?)

    The team still works very well, the results are good compared to other «small» WT squads.

    From next year they get #unox #champeu Leknessund - so it is not like they will go bankrupt on talent either.

    Just thinking about it, Bol's nationality might have played some part in him getting the nod ahead of Matthews (but couldn't they have taken both?). However no matter which way you look at it the Australian has been shabbily treated.

    Last year for the Tour the team got him to train 100% to help Dumoulin with virtually no sprint practice, but as it turned out he sacrificed himself in vain and then couldn't snag a stage win.

    Jump to 2020 and don't you think the team owes him something for that? Okay with this group mentality they have, you don't build your entire team around him, but you surely pick your best rider for the biggest races and the races that suit him. Instead they repay him by sending him to the Giro and thus missing not just the Tour, but the Classics.

    The problem I see with this collective strength thing is that all riders are not equal. It goes okay if the riders are much of a muchness in terms of talent, but it seems to be that if one becomes head and shoulders above the rest (and surely you want special riders like that) then that is where the problems start.

    It could be Mr Leknussund himself who suffers from it in a couple of years time.

    probably. Also #ccc Zakarin is rumored to have found a new home at #gazprom Gazprom-Rusvelo.

    Maybe there's a chance for the Devo team to move up a level again though. Would be good, and probably an opportunity for some lesser names to stay.

    (tbc) #seg Jordi Meeus --> #vlaanderen Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise

    he looked strong in the Czech Tour. Would be good for Topsport to finally get a talented rider again - the new policies of the WT teams (signing younger riders) really have made it tough for them.

    Didn't he have an offer from them last year and turned it down? You'd think after those sprints in the Czech Tour that somebody bigger would be after him. Why not Bahrain or Mitchelton who saw him first hand in those races.

    going bigger indeed now, by all likeliness

    They are loading it like a belgian world championship road race team. There's Gaviria too. They still got no Tim de Clerq and no Michael Mørkøv.....just to explain why the soccer team with 11 strikers don't win matches. Kristoff's stage 1 win and yellow jersey was pretty much a one man show.

    Just to expand on this a bit: allegedly Alberto Contador on Spanish Eurosport offered to help Fabio find his mojo. Then RAI reported a couple days later that Aru spoke with Ivan Basso. He would have to take a huge hit to his salary though, I doubt EOLO-Kometa's budget will be more than a couple million.

    Hopefully it isn't the end of his CX-ing.

    I had thought he might do what MVDP has done with Corendon/Alpecin. Basically have a team (Trinity) built around him and gradually raise the team level step by step. However that may not have been so easy in the current situation.

    Lopez -------------> ???

    There had been a few rumours of other teams interested in him in recent weeks/months.

    Bora was the most persistent one. I guess as a like for like Majka replacement.

    I-Sun had been mentioned as well, but that seems unlikely as they're nearly full and still need a classics rider or two.

    How about UAE? Gets to lead in the Giro and then helps Pogacar at the Tour?

    UAE could make sense, yeah. They have some Colombians, Spanish staff (Matxin and so on) - I guess a mainly English speaking team would not be his first option.

    Yesterday @cirogazzetta said that #bahrain Battaglin would likely sign for #bardiani Bardiani, by the way, but that tweet has since been deleted. So either it's incorrect, or there's an official announcement form Bardiani due, they didn't want to be spoiled.

    Movistar keeps on announcing surprising transfers

    #bora Gregor Mühlberger --> #movistar Movistar

    Quote
    Winner of the 2020 Sibiu Tour, the first pro stagerace post-pandemic, plus as a stage of the 2018 BinckBank Tour and the Austrian road race title in 2017, Mühlberger shared podiums this 2020 with two of his future team-mates, Alejandro Valverde and Marc Soler, at two events of the Mallorca Challenge -he was 3rd in Deià, behind ‘Bala’, and 2nd in Andratx, following a late break against eventual winner Marc-.

    Gregor Mühlberger: “I’m super happy to have been given this chance by the team to sign with them and profit from all the opportunities that lie ahead in the next few years. It’s a good chance to improve my skills and get better in the future, chase some results on both the toughest one-day races and some mountainous one-week races like Dauphiné or Itzulia, but also try to help the leaders as much as I can in the Grand Tours. I feel like some of my best performances in previous seasons have come at the third week of GTs, where I feel pretty strong, and I hope I can be there for our team leaders, put my current experience at the team’s service and also learn a lot from the veterans, such as Alejandro Valverde, José Joaquín Rojas and many others. There’s still a lot for me to improve and learn, and I’m so happy to have this chance with the Movistar Team to grow with them and continue to get better in the next few years.”

    at least they mentioned Sibiu first ;)

    --> #bardiani Bardiani Csf Faizanè

    https://www.tuttobiciweb.it/article/1600804269

    Probably not quite the move Rivera was initially hoping for, but likely the best he could get after this kind of season. Interesting that he didn't just stay at Androni then (or that Gianni didn't keep him).

    Rivera and Cañaveral are the first non-Italians in the team since the Richeze brothers in 2009.

    The #bahrain Battaglin transfer is one they are still working on, according to that article. Looking at the Giro profiles, they should maybe better get it fixed before the start ;)

    yeah, a bit odd. In the Bardiani statement it says "In 2020 Kevin Rivera will still be involved in the Imola World Championships this weekend with the Costa Rica jersey, and then will focus to prepare for the new season, in Bardiani CSF Faizanè jersey", which doesn't really sound like he'll race for Androni much (or at all) anymore.

    But well, Mühlberger yesterday, Rivera today... what kind of announcements can we expect for Sosa and Bernal over the coming two days? :D

    Lutsenko :S

    #astana —->

    Lutsenko leaving Astana for what/where ? So what happens with Fuglsang?
    If they cannot keep *co riders AND cannot keep the *kz star, it really looks like a sinking ship. Or a dried up pipeline from the KMG.

    yeah, smells like some monetary issues (again). About Superman:

    and Lutsenko posted a Movistar related picture on his Instagram the other day, so that's where he may end up
