Katusha Rumours

The rest day might bring confirmation of something or other.
The way I understand it, Alpecin and Canyon want to sponsor the team of MvdP, leaving Katusha at the end of the year. So it wouldn't be a merger as much as Katusha lacking the funds to go on.

Here's my take:
- Azevedo is stating the current legal situation (riders are still under contract), but it has little to no basis in reality. What good is a contract if the team it's with lacks ~60% of its current funding?

- "Team MvdP" will upgrade with a couple of signings and new sponsorship - but still stay PCT (for now). Corendon has been taken over by Sunweb, so they're probably on their way out as a (title) sponsor. Whether the 2020 team is called Alpecin-Circus, Alpecin-Canyon, or something entirely different is almost academical.

- #academy buy out Azevedo & co. with an offer he can't refuse, taking over Katusha's WT licence, and finally get that Tour invite they're after. They have been clever enough not to give out long-term contracts, so they can absorb the 10-11 riders that would come over from Katusha and still have enough room to sign whoever they want. Bad news for the likes of Carisey, Schreurs etc., but that's business.
