Re: Team Sponsorship 19/20

some more stuff from Japanese media about the end of #nippo Nippo-Vini Fantini-Faizanè at the end of the season

https://cyclist.sanspo.com/480782

(Sports director) Hiroshi Daimon says, that Pelosi just couldn't secure the money to keep things going. Currently the team runs at a 350 Million Yen (~2.9 million Euro) budget, to continue under the new UCI rules (more riders, more races, more staff, increased mimimum wage) it would take 550 Million Yen.

Sponsors would potentially be willing to get on board or increase their spendings, but the uncertainties in terms of participation in the big races (and particularly Grand Tours) are just too big currently, as now one knows what exactly the Wild Card rules will look like in 2020, and no one would invest money based on rumors only.

He says that the relationship between all sponsors and the team management is fine, but there's no way they can continue under this circumstances. Personally Daimon thinks that about half of the 24 current pro continental teams will share the same fate.

Some teams may try to keep the budget low by only increasing the amount of riders (instead of also investing in what it needs to keep a larger team going), but this will mean that many of them won't race for weeks or months, and that's not the way Nippo wanted to go.

He expects the sponsor to stay in cycling one way or another though.
