Stage 7 : Belfort > Chalon-sur-Saône
« on: July 11, 2019, 18:13 »
After a 31 year absence a stage returns to Chalon-sur-Saone. The Tour has finished here on 4 previous occasions and here is a little video rounding up those previous occasions.

This year the stage should be the relative calm after the storm of the first mountain stages.

The route is 230km long making it the longest of this years race.

A few lumps early on but the final 90km is very flat so if any break gets a lead they will need a substantial one to see the day out to the finish without being captured by the peloton.

It should be one for the sprinters today and if they get it right again it will be hard to beat Viviani and Quickstep.

Cool video. Very nice promo.  :cool

Vivz is the obvious choice, but I'm still putting my faith in Caleb Ewan.

#lotto will be anxious to put their stamp on this race, although it seems a bit redundant to suggest that they'll be "heavily motivated," because all the sprint teams will be.

The effects of Stage Six on the sprinter's legs is yet-to-be-known, but Caleb looked super strong a couple of days ago, and he still has something to prove. I'd like to think it will take only the very best efforts from his rivals to deny him the stage win in Chalon-sur-Saone.

    So close!
    So close!

Still really happy for Groenewegen and  #jumbo though.  :cool

Caleb had the after-burners going strong, and zoomed right past both Sagan and Viviani. Really impressive distant that both he and Dylan covered in those final few meters.

The overhead shot is the best, by far, but this clip provides the only angle I've seen that captures the upward tilt of the road towards the end.
