[2.1] Turul Ciclist al României
« on: September 06, 2019, 07:34 »
Turul Ciclist al României

September 11th to 15th

After last year's return to the cycling calender, the Tour of Romania is back for 2019 as well - and this time as 2.1 UCI race.

The race starts in Cluj on Wednesday, and finishes in Bucharest after a five day journey through the country:

Stage 1: Cluj - Sighisoara

Stage 2: Brasov - Focsani

Stage 3: Buzau - Targoviste

Stage 4: Ploiesti - Piatra Arsa

(~23k at 5% average)

Stage 5: Bucharest - Bucharest

Things got sorted a bit late, so there are no PCT teams around for the race, but quite a decent list of teams could be brought together for the race:
  • #cccdevo CCC Development Team
  • #friuli Cycling Team Friuli
  • #elkov Elkov Author
  • #giotti Giotti Victoria
  • #lkt LKT Team Brandenburg
  • #lokosphinx Lokosphinx
  • #monkeytown Monkey Town - A BLOC CT
  • #teamby National Team Belarus
  • #teamee National Team Estonia
  • #teammd National Team Moldavia
  • #teampl National Team Poland
  • #teamro National Team Romania
  • #teamru National Team Russia
  • #teamsk National Team Slovakia
  • #pannon Pannon Cycling Team
  • #illuminate Team Illuminate
  • #novak Team Novak
  • #voster Voster ATS Team
#cccdevo brings Valter to compete with last year's winner #teamro Tvetcov, and also #elkov Schlegel or #illuminate Torres are some good guys for GC. For the sprints, there are #teamro Grosu, #elkov Kankovsky or #illuminate Laas, among others - but last year there were strong attacks every day, no matter the profile. So although most stages look fairly flat, there won't be necessarily too many sprints.

I'll be heading to Cluj on Monday and will be around for the week, so it better be fun ;).

There's live coverage on Livestream Romania as well, but I won't be doing the commentary :dizzy

Broadcasting times (there's a one hour difference to central Europe, two to the UK). Most of the days the stages should finish just before the Vuelta goes live

the #teamee Estonian National Team brought #academy Mihkel Räim by the way, so that's quite a good addition for the sprints

I didn't really find the time (well, and motivation :P) to keep the thread updated, but it was a fun race to follow.

Will be interesting to see where those young guys end up over the coming years (also Aniolkowski, who did two really, really strong sprints)
