Three TTs again, but still under 60km in total. Etna returns as well. Third time in four years (new higher finish?). Haven't investigated deeply to see how many km of gravel there are (if any).

Vegni wants all three Italian PCT teams there. That will only be possible if Total turn down the auto-wildcard. I can't see that happening. They were interested in going this year and while they might very well turn down some of the other WT races (Hi TDU and Cadel Evans), they surely won't for one of the Grand Tours.

Of course, even after Vegni saying this, it wouldn't surprise me if he invited Gazprom anyway instead of Androni or whoever. Talk is cheap months ahead of the race.

I hope they have put a lot of thought into their contingency plans for stages 18 and 20 is all.
Twice over 2700 metres is a big risk and this year's Gavia alternative was awful.

My favourite stage is 12: the Cesenatico stage...........................right up until it isn't.

Giro doing whatever the TDF and Vuelta are not in 2020.

Quiet smart before the Tokyo Olympics. Very hard training block and long enough recovery,  altitude Olympics program

    Italy's gain is California's loss.

But since California always feels like a loss for the rest of us, I'd say this just evens the score a bit.

Nibali and Bardet both targeting the Giro next year. Very tough to ride for GC at the Tour and then go for gold in Tokyo a few days later, so I think several other names will follow them.

Not official, but it doesn't look like Total will take up their auto-wildcard for the Giro.

The Pickles (or Gazprom) would be the likely beneficiaries.

Looks like Dumo for the Giro, Roglic for the Tour. And the others to fit in around that.

    Ah ok.

I'd really like to see Uno-X given a berth, surely they're a better team than The Pickles, or Bardiani. Italian PCT teams have really fallen off in the last couple of years.

Good to hear that it's not just us Scandis liking #unox - but the 2020 Giro would probably come too soon for them.

Or maybe not ... and the DS knows how to win a Giro stage or two. :shh

They’re going to have 8 leaders and no Doms.

I was thinking the same at first, but it's probably gonna be those 5 in the end + some doms. Maybe Selig or Oss/Gatto for the sprint preparations, Benedetti and some mountain dom like Fabbro or so.

Good to see Schachmann doing the Giro instead of the Tour, by the way, as he is probably "our" best #teamde bet for Tokyo.

Possibly, yes. Although there is also Buchmann, Zimmermann and Schwarzmann.
