Coming up, I will be keeping an eye on the 2.2 races that are supposed to be happening in Turkey and Poland, but if nobody in this game scores points, I won't do an update.

well, here is hope for Banaszek to turn up ;)

I was thinking Dan had given me a good chance of topping this week's table, but in all likelihood someone will have a Dillier/Mader or Dillier/Jacobs combo. Though if we're being pedantic the Swiss TT really should have had a separate update as it was raced last week. Maybe I can pick up some points at Puchar Mon tomorrow to overtake the Swiss big cheeses.

(mini) Update #12: Swiss TT champs sneak in there

I went to check the last week (July 12-19) on CQ to see if I needed to do an update, only to realize that the Swiss TT championships happened on the 12th and got it's own CQ spreadsheet update! To honor that, I need to give an update for the week of July 5-12 - even for the meagre amount of points on offer, we actually had half the field (55 teams) score at least a point on the week.

    Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Gigs_98   26
    1   del1962   26
    1   LaFlorecita   26
    1   Armchair cyclist   26
    1   Riverside   26
    1   karaev   26
    1   mineralJ   26
    1   Shawnm4747   26

39 teams had Silvan Diller (18 points for 2nd in the Swiss TT), 32 teams had Gino Mader (8 points for 6th place); these 8 teams had them both.

    High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Armchair cyclist   (+4)
    2   NorthAmericanScum   (+2)
    2   Shawnm4747   (+2)
    2   mineralJ   (+2)
    2   LaFlorecita   (+2)
    2   shalgo   (+2)
    2   Amis_Velo   (+2)
    2   Londonpat   (+2)
    2   laarsland   (+2)
    2   will10   (+2)
    2   Riverside   (+2)
    2   GP Blanco   (+2)
    2   LosBrolin   (+2)
    2   rote_laterne   (+2)

Armchair Cyclist had the fortune to be in a bunched-up enough place in the standings to jump 4 spots with 26 points on the week, and gets a mention in the update. Congrats!

    Green Jersey

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   190.7
    2   Hakkie2   116
    3   EvansIsTheBest   113
    4   Leadbelly   80
    5   ChrisDK   79

No changes or weekly points in the top 5. The 8-way tie for first place meant each of those teams got 25.1 points for the shared win, but none of them were in the top of the standings to start the week.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   Jakob747 2796
    2   (-)   EvansIsTheBest   2733
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   2415
    4   (-)   Squire   2250
    5   (-)   Object   2236
    6   (-)   western_grebe   2186
    7   (+2)   LaFlorecita   2099
    8   (-1)   skidmark   2094
    9   (-1)   search   2090
    10   (-)   18-Valve. (pithy)   2073

LaFlorecita manages a two spot jump this week! No movement in and out of the top 10 this week though. Jakob747 holds onto the lead.

I'll give update #13 later this week (for July 12-19 week), then this week (July 19-26) should have some points from the Sibiu Tour, even though the teams pulling out and rising covid cases are a very inauspicious sign for the resumption of racing. Fingers crossed the restart goes okay and we'll be swimming in CQ points very soon!

    spreadsheet at dropbox

The withdrawals at Sibiu are a CQ annoyance. Was counting on Cherkasov and Gabburo to make hay against a fairly weak climbing field. Turek and Toupalik remain, but can't see many points there. Looking at the profiles in Bulgaria and the mainly club opposition, Banaszek is a more likely source of points.

(mini) Update #13: Leadbelly sings a happy tune

There was some racing on the week of July 12-19; not much of relevance to the CQ manager game. But the 2.2 Dookola Mazowsza, the 1.2, uh.... Puchar Ministra Obrony Narodowej (I pray I never have to attempt to say that aloud), and the Croatian nationals happened. As it goes, the only riders picked in this game to score were two unique picks, Daniel Turek who got 20 points and Rait Arm who got 1. And, as it happens, both were picked uniquely by the same team! So that means one team scored points this week.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Leadbelly   21

Congrats Leadbelly, you get your time alone in the sun! Those unique picks certainly can come in handy some weeks in this game.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Leadbelly   (+2)

It was enough to move up two spots, so again, Leadbelly's name is in lights!

Green Jersey Competition - same as last week. Since Leadbelly is the only team to score, small-score week points come into play. The long-standing rule is that if fewer than 15 teams score on the week, I give out points in reverse from (normal week) 15th place points up to the number of teams that scored. So since one team scored, they got 1 point, which is what a normal 15th place team would get. Leadbelly is in 4th overall in that competition, but didn't change any places with that point.

Top 10 Overall is unchanged - Leadbelly is actually less than 100 points from the top 10, but the two point jump was from 19th to 17th. Jakob747 stays in first place as we move back towards a real cycling calendar.

    My own personal update. ;)

**note: Hey velorooms! I solved my login issues!! I can update directly here again. Thanks to Leadbelly who copied the updates from CN the last few weeks. Glad we are seeing some racing again... Hope you've all been well and keeping safe**

    Update #14: Jakob Keeps Rolling

"Real" racing is back! After a few appetizer nibbles in national championships for a few small countries and some .2 diversions, top teams returned (well, 2 WT teams at least) at the Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania. And while the tenativeness and withdrawals of teams and riders gave us a glimpse into the fragility of post-covid racing, the CQ points are still the same as they were for a .1 race before covid hit. So, what happened? Well, a familiar name is on top.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Jakob747   156
    1   ChrisDK   156
    3   LukasCPH   50
    4   Bonimenier   48
    5   dimasotf   35
    5   ray10   35
    5   western_grebe   35

Two teams took talented young Austrian Gregor Muhlberger this year, and this week he lived up to his talent, hitting the jackpot by being a good rider from a big team on a race with a good amount of points but mostly small teams. With 156 points this week, he brings his total for the year to within a point of his 2019 total. Jakob747 and ChrisDK are the two teams in question who picked him.  Jakob, of course, was leading the competition coming into this week and had topped the Slovenian nationals week a few weeks ago. ChrisDK is not as high in the overall standings, but has had a few great weeks (as we'll see in the Green Jersey section). LukasCPH manages 3rd on the week with 30 points from Andreas Leknessund and 20 points from unique pick Veljko Stojnic.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   ChrisDK   (+12)
    2   shalgo   (+4)
    2   LosBrolin   (+4)
    2   Bonimenier   (+4)
    5   rote_laterne   (+3)
    5   fauniera   (+3)
    5   christopherrowe   (+3)

ChrisDK takes the solo win here, as Jakob had nowhere to move up. Shalgo, LosBrolin, and Bonimenier tie for second with a more modest 4 place jump. Interestingly, all 3 had 18 points from Tobias Foss this week (and Bonimenier had 30 more from Leknessund).

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   230.7
    2   ChrisDK   119
    3   Hakkie2   116
    4   EvansIsTheBest   113
    5   Sestriere   89.3

The rich get richer here - Jakob and Chris split the top prize this week, getting 40 points each. For Jakob, this gives their team a stratospheric lead of over 110 points, ie. two weekly wins and change. For Chris, 40 points vaults their team into second place in the competition. Sestriere jumps into the top 5 with 13 points on the week too.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   Jakob747   2952
    2   (-)   EvansIsTheBest   2733
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   2415
    4   (-)   Squire   2250
    5   (-)   Object   2236
    6   (-)   western_grebe   2221
    7   (+2)   search   2104
    8   (-1)   LaFlorecita   2099
    9   (-1)   skidmark   2094
    10   (-)   18-Valve. (pithy)   2073

Although it's been fun to get updates again, it's good to remind ourselves that the actual number of points that have been awarded is relatively small. Jakob got 156 more this week to extend their lead over EITB to over 200, but aside from that it was only western grebe (35) and search (14) who scored points in the top 10 this week. So that was the appetizer - with fingers crossed that the revamped, compressed schedule goes as planned, there are going to be a whirlwind of points to come in the next 8-10 weeks.

This week, the Vuelta a Burgos is already underway, the WorldTour kicks off with Strade Bianche on Saturday, the 2.1 Occitainie gets underway on the weekend, and the 1.1 Circuit Getxo happens on Sunday. That itself is just an appetizer for what's to come, with the two Italian monuments, the Dauphine, and a host of other races coming in the next couple of weeks. Here's hoping it all goes down as planned!

Update #15: Turn Down for Wout!

WorldTour racing is back, and with it, WorldTour points. While Evenepoel started where he left off in February, winning a .HC race that didn't even have a time trial to further cement the impression that he's an essential pick for this game, another young Flandrien showed that he was back from devastating injury, with Wout Van Aert taking a very hot and dusty Strade Bianche. The result is that the winning team got over 500 points this week, meaning the CQ game is well and truly back in action.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   bminchow   522
    2   Wallenquist   485
    3   Sneekes   443
    4   karaev   435
    5   Londonpat   428

bminchow had the right combo of rare riders this week, being one of the 11 teams to pick WvA and his 180 points, as well as one of the 19 teams who believed in Joao Almeida and got rewarded with his 115 points on the week to take him well into profit for this truncated year. Sprinkle in 83 points from Chaves (14 teams), 50 from de la Cruz (7 teams), and a handful from other popular picks, and you've got a winner! Wallenquist had an almost identical lineup, less Chaves, and ends in second place, while Sneekes has the same top 2 as well with a bit less support below.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   bminchow   (+35)
    2   Wallenquist   (+30)
    3   Sneekes   (+28)
    4   karaev   (+26)
    5   Bicycle_Boy   (+25)
    5   Londonpat   (+25)

Exact same podium and order here; in fact, the same top 5 plus a tie for 5th place from Bicycle Boy.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   230.7
    2   EvansIsTheBest   131
    3   Hakkie2   122
    4   ChrisDK   119
    5   Sestriere   89.3

Jakob747 still well out front here, but some shuffling below as ChrisDK gets taken over by two teams scoring this week and moving up in EITB and Hakkie2. 103 out of 113 teams have scored at least a point in this competition this year.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Jakob747
    3271
    2   (-)   EvansIsTheBest   3142
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   2758
    4   (+2)   western_grebe   2541
    5   (-)   Object   2478
    6   (+4)   18-Valve. (pithy)   2457
    7   (-3)   Squire   2421
    8   (+12)   hfgon1   2369
    9   (+7)   Northerner   2331
    10   (+8)   Leadbelly   2308

Some shakeup here, but not at the top, as Jakob, EITB and Hakkie hold onto their top 3 spots and actually solidify them by being in the top 20 on the week. Some movement down below, though, and a crazy close battle for the bottom half of the top 10... hfgon1, Northerner, and Leadbelly move into the top 10, but two of the three teams that fell out - search and team skidmark - are tied for 11th, a single point behind Leadbelly. And HelgeBlendet is only a further point back in 12th. LaFlorecita wasn't as lucky, as she falls out of the top 10, and top 20, in a single week.

This week, the races keep rolling as Occitainie finished already, as did the three Italian races combined into one, and we've got a bunch more to come, with Pologne, Milano-Torino, Ventoux Challenge, Czech Tour, Tour de l'Ain, and the first monument of the season in the route-altered Milan-San Remo. Holy cow, these are gonna be some packed weeks!

Top VR entrant ....... for one week at least. Could make it two if Schachmann and Evenepoel continue their excellent form in Pologne.

Update #16: bminchow doubles up while Evans regains the lead

We are back! Our first monument of the season and our first WT race since the return, and we have a week where some teams broke 1000 points, a harbinger of things to come in this compressed season. Let's get right to it!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   bminchow   1060
    2   mineralJ   1049
    3   karaev   1038
    4   Lortnoc   1002
    5   LosBrolin   1000

It's pretty hard to double up on weekly wins in this game save from the small-point bookends of the season, but bminchow manages the impressive feat, edging out mineralJ and karaev for the weekly lead with 1060 points. Of course the lodestone of bminchow's team the last two weeks has been Wout van Aert, who I forgot got a top 3 in Milan-Torino before winning MSR, scoring a massive 365 this week to top last week's already impressive Strade Bianche. The rest of the top of the table isn't the same as last week though, so it wasn't all van Aert - bminchow had a good mix of > 50 points from popular riders (Yates, Kwiatkowski, Aru) and less popular riders (Chaves, Kelderman, Bouhanni sorta). mineralJ had van Aert, Yates and Kwiatko and also previously unmentioned Pinot and Gaviria. karaev landed in third with points from somehow Evenepoel and van Aert but still escaped the win due to less ancillary support.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   LosBrolin   (+32)
    2   bminchow   (+31)
    3   Lortnoc   (+30)
    4   Wallenquist   (+28)
    5   tom_jelte   (+24)

LosBrolin rockets up the standings, and just edges out bminchow to keep their team from achieving the double (or the double-double, since bminchow topped both last week as well). LosBrolin achieved 1000 points on the week despite not having van Aert; apart from Evenepoel, their team was one of 3 to get Michael Matthews' 145 points, as well as a big contribution from the more popular Simon Yates. bminchow jumps another 31 spots after jumping 35 last week, while Lortnoc rounds out the podium with a similar stable of riders to the other high scorers.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   230.7
    2   EvansIsTheBest   131
    3   Hakkie2   122
    4   ChrisDK   119
    5   karaev   103.3

No movement or points at the very top here; karaev gets 30 points to jump into the top 5, juuust edging out bminchow who has 103 points overall thanks to the maximum 90 in the last two weeks.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (+1)
    EvansIsTheBest
    3939
    2   (-1)   Jakob747   3879
    3   (-)   Hakkie2   3551
    4   (-)   western_grebe   3485
    5   (+1)   18-Valve. (pithy)   3342
    6   (+11)   karaev   3299
    7   (+1)   hfgon1   3248
    8   (+7)   Londonpat   3214
    9   (-4)   Object   3212
    10   (+1)   skidmark   3203

Before the shutdown, EvansIsTheBest and Jakob747 were trading blows atop the standings, and that has continued in the slow restart, and now into the full-blown restart. EITB manages 797 points to Jakob's 608 this week, and retakes first place as a result. Jakob looks to swing back this week with Pogacar and Higuita in action. The top half of the top 10 is relatively stable, but lower down there's some movement and a very tight 96 points separating 6th from 10th. karaev, Londonpat and team skidmark enter the top 10, while Squire, Leadbelly and Northerner slide out.

This week, this mad lib of a season continues, coming out of Milan San Remo and the Tour of Poland into the Dauphine and our second monument of the season, Il Lombardia.

850+ points and I still drop two places. :angry

Aranburu starting to look not such a hopeless selection after all. Shame he's doing the Giro as with this form you could see him picking up points in the Ardennes.

Some signs of life from Vervaeke and Vakoc. The Alpecin picks in general though aren't doing very well. Wake up lads!

Update #17: Another 1000 point week, but crashes change the complexion of the game

We are flying getting back in action this season, with some very exciting racing on the last day of the Dauphine, and some pre-TdF drama with racers crashing out or pulling out or having aftereffects of crashes that raise question marks for nearly all the favourites for the Tour (let alone the poor form that seems to exist on the two Ineos British former Tour winners). But for any racing fan, it was one particular crash this weekend that left you with your heart in your throat for about 20 minutes on Saturday. The (almost literally) unbelievable phenom Evenepoel had his season seemingly end on a very scary crash on the descent of the Sormano, and although the severity of what could have happened far overshadows the consequences for this frivolous game, those CQ game consequences are not minor. He was looking to be the most essential pick of the game, and most of the top of the field had him. So obviously, his absence will be felt in this game. Here is hoping for a full recovery and future inspiration and excitement in the CQ game for him.

    4   Manafana   957
    5   oliveira   913

Some big points again this week. BlueRoads rockets up the standings (more on that below) with a huge 1260 points, and a duo of high scoring rare picks. Dani Martinez (305 points this week) and George Bennett (300) were both picked by 9 teams, and BlueRoads was one of those 9 for both. Padded by good points from more popular picks like Pinot, Dumoulin and an impressive Lennard Kamna, as well as >100 points for a still-rolling-in-the-points Wout Van Aert,  BlueRoads has a hugely top-heavy lineup - aside from those named riders, their team had one rider at 15 points and then a handful at 5 or less on the week, but that was it. DJ Sprtsch nabs 2nd with a pretty incredible in its own right 1178 points, from most of the top riders named above sans Bennett, but plus >100 points from Romain Bardet and Sepp Kuss. sodak_za rounds out the podium by getting almost 1000 points with a very similar lineup to DJ Sprtsch, minus Kuss and a few minor contributors.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   BlueRoads   (+51)
    2   DJ Sprtsch   (+47)
    3   oliveira   (+31)
    4   flashke   (+27)
    5   Gigs_98   (+26)

The top 2 from the previous listing top this one too by a wide margin, both moving up nearly half the table in a single week. Third goes to oliveira, moving up 31 spots on the backs of most of the previously mentioned riders, plus hitting the jackpot with 130 points from Jonas Rickaert, who was picked by 13 teams at a cost of 23 points, which he bettered significantly with a win in Hageland.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total

    3   EvansIsTheBest   131
    4   Hakkie2   122
    5   karaev   103.3

ChrisDK nabs 20 points this week for 6th place on the week, which catapults their team into 2nd overall. The rest of the leaderboard stays static.

    Top 10 Overall

    9   (+4)   mineralJ   3829
    10   (-1)   Object   3822

EvansIsTheBest maintains their team lead, and in fact gains 80 points on Jakob747. Things did not go quite as hoped for Jakob this week, with his 3 expensive studs getting results from 'pretty good' (Pogacar with 188 points despite an off day in the Dauphine) to 'bad but understandable' (Higuita with an opening day crash that doesn't appear to impede his prospects for the remainder of the season) to 'Remco Evenepoel at Lombardia' (Remco Evenepoel at Lombardia). Still, the two are still quite out front, although of course with 1000 point weeks flying around these days, a 300 point gap isn't much. 18-Valve jumps a couple of spots to round out the podium, and sodak_za catapults into the top 10 alongside mineralJ, while Londonpat and skidmark slide out.

Update #18: A Quieter Week Still Reshuffles the Standings

With no WorldTour races, and riders that weren't picked or were quite rare in the game taking up the wins in the major national championships as well as Wallonie, Emillia and Limousin, it was a bit of a breather in between the last few frantic weeks and the start of the TdF in terms of point totals. Still, although the very top of the overall standings remains stratified, it is quite the jumble just below jockeying for position.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Nathanptz   439
    2   ChrisDK   419
    3   Mayomaniac   401
    4   Nyssinator   390
    5   Luthor   378
    5   Wallenquist   378

It's not an 1000 point week, but 439 points will still serve you well in this game, and Nathanptz takes the week by 20 points over ChrisDK. Nathanptz collected a good breadth of points from national championship placings for relatively rare riders, like 84 from Eekhoff and Ballerini (18 and 22 teams), 78 from Ruben Fernandez (17 teams), 70 from the eternal fountain of Wout van Aert (11 teams), and 62 from Ivan Garcia Cortina (10 teams). ChrisDK took a different route as their team often has this year, front-loading with 137 points from unique pick Clement Venturini, 130 from the impressive Vlasov (2 teams), and 78 from unique pick Senechal. Mayomaniac rounds out the podium and cracks 400 points as well.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Nathanptz   (+18)
    2   ChrisDK   (+16)
    3   Mayomaniac   (+15)
    4   Sestriere   (+13)
    5   VeloRooms   (+12)
    5   Luthor   (+12)

The exact same top 3 in the exact same order top this list as well; all 3 teams parlay their points gains into double digit leaps up the standings.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   230.7
    2   ChrisDK   174
    3   EvansIsTheBest   131
    4   Hakkie2   122
    5   Sestriere   107.3

Some teams on the Green Jersey standings are also the teams right at the top of the overall standings, and some have teams more suited to weekly bursts, and this mix is no different. ChrisDK gains 35 points (on top of 20 last week) to solidify second, although Jakob747 is still comfortably in first by over 50 points. ChrisDK's team is full of rare or unique riders, and the combo is going impressively this year, with their team inside the top 25 overall, but with some very strong weeks in the rankings due to distinct riders standing out. Sestriere gets 18 points on the week to jump into the top 5 too.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points

    3   (-)   18-Valve. (pithy)   4282
    4   (-)   Hakkie2   4152
    5   (+9)   Nyssinator   4093
    6   (-1)   karaev   4054
    6   (+3)   mineralJ   4054
    8   (+5)   skidmark   4053
    9   (-1)   sodak_za   4050
    10   (+5)   BlueRoads   4032

Jakob747 gains 38 points on EvansIsTheBest this week, but none of the top 4 overall finished in the top 30 of the week. Even so, their built lead was such that they weathered the storm and maintained the status quo. Not so in the second half of the top 10. A mere 61 points separate 5th to 10th, and in fact going down further, 16th place is only 82 points back of 10th. So there is quite the battle for positioning coming into the Tour - especially note that 6th to 9th are separated by a mere 4 points!! Very exciting stuff. Nyssinator, skidmark and BlueRoads enter the top 10 this week, while western grebe, Object and hfgon1 fall out (but, as noted, are not far away from a potential return).

This week the points action is all in France - Bretagne Classic and Euros in Brittany, and the Tour gets underway in Nice on Saturday. Big daily points over the next 3 weeks as we get into Grand Tour season!

Update #19: Nathanptz doubles up as Tour begins

It was in some ways another relatively quiet week, as the points on display weren't enormous. In other ways, though, it was a wild week, coming out of the national championships, having the European championships sandwiched with the Bretagne Classic, and of course the start of the biggest race of all, the TdF. But unlike most opening Tour weekends, there were a number of overlapping events, including the HC/PS Brussels Classic, two normally late-season Italian 1.1 races, the 2.1 Poitou Charentes, and another 1.1 in Belgium. So how did it end up?

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Nathanptz   557
    2   Ferminal   520
    3   LaFlorecita   488
    4   SafeBet   460
    5   JPettersen   455

Nathanptz gets a second weekly win in a row! This is usually a pretty rare occurrence in the game, but Nathanptz has become the second team to do it in the last month after bminchow's earlier success. Nathanptz's team was led by 144 points from a very on-form Davide Ballerini, who got 2nd in Brussels, 6th in the Euros after leading out Nizzolo, and 4th in Overijse this week. Also contributing were Ivan Garcia (86 points), Quinn Simmons (76 points) and 66 each from Bouhanni and Eekhoff. Ferminal clears 500 points for second place on the week, largely due to Michael Matthews' win in Plouay (220 points, 3 teams), and supporting points from Ballerini. Flo nabs third thanks largely to the combo of Ballerini, Bouhanni, and Garcia, as well as 80 from a finally resurgent Fabio Felline.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Ferminal   (+20)
    2   Nathanptz   (+19)
    3   LaFlorecita   (+15)
    4   flashke   (+13)
    4   TheArt   (+13)

The same podium on this ranking, with a reversal at the top as Fermi just outgains Nathanptz, moving up 20 spots on the overall.

    This Month's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points This Month
    1   BlueRoads   2538
    2   Nathanptz   2526
    3   ChrisDK   2387
    4   bminchow   2361
    5   Lortnoc   2328

No surprise to see our two aforementioned double weekly winners here in Nathanptz and bminchow, but it's the team that won the week in between their reigns that just takes the monthly title. BlueRoads had a wonderful month, reaping over 2500 points from some savvy rare picks. Primary amongst those was the man of the month, Wout Van Aert, who accumulated 522 points since the restart, a great haul for the 11 teams who believed in his comeback this year. Also performing quite well for BlueRoads was a pair of riders who were only picked by 9 teams, George Bennett (350 points) and Dani Martinez (305), with the more popular Thibaut Pinot (330 points, 60 teams) also clearing 300 on the month. Also netting over 100 points for BlueRoads is the slightly more popular Tom Dumoulin, as well as Lennard Kamna, Andrea Bagioli and Quinn Simmons. Nathanptz appears on yet another leaderboard, with the essential Van Aert and Martinez, but also 284 points from Davide Ballerini (22 teams) and 233 from Nils Eekhoff (18 teams). ChrisDK lands third going a different route than the other two, with only the Dauphine winner Martinez in common. ChrisDK's team was headed by (or, to be more accurate, is almost solely constituted of) rare picks, chief among them 484 points from Alexandr Vlasov (2 teams). Unique pick Florian Senechal (336 points), rare pick Alex Aranburu (3 teams, 229 points), and riders picked by two teams (Pavel Sivakov, Richie Porte, Luka Mezgec) all netted the team more than 135 points.

    This Month's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   BlueRoads   (+58)
    2   Nathanptz   (+55)
    3   ChrisDK   (+46)
    4   flashke   (+44)
    5   Lortnoc   (+40)

The exact same podium here, and 4 of the same top 5, as these teams use the good month to rocket up the standings, with BlueRoads and Nathanptz in particular leaping up about halfway up the table.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points

    3   (-)   18-Valve. (pithy)   4574
    4   (+4)   skidmark   4489
    5   (+1)   mineralJ   4411
    6   (-1)   Nyssinator   4359
    7   (+19)   Nathanptz   4341
    8   (-4)   Hakkie2   4336
    9   (+7)   bminchow   4329
    10   (+9)   JPettersen   4319

Again, no change at the very top as the podium remains identical to last week. EITB and Jakob both finish mid-pack for the week and Jakob gains another 20 points to pull 82 points behind EITB for first. Both maintain a decent lead over the rest of the field. The bottom half of the top 10 is quite close once again, with 40 points separating 6th to 10th. Nathanptz parlays a winning week into a leap into the top 10, and bminchow and JPettersen join in the top 10 entrants, while sodak za, karaev and BlueRoads slide out.

Update #20: Wallenquist Tops as Tour Rolls on

Well, another week, another 160 points from Wout Van Aert. With relative quiet aside from the Tour (2.1 races in Coppi e Bartali and Hungary, but with few riders in this game), numbers weren't as crazy as the early weeks of the restart, but there were still a healthy amount of points up for grabs.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Wallenquist   598
    2   Jon_Ezeitza   560
    3   Yellow Knight   493
    4   BlueRoads   467
    5   Josedin   464

Wallenquist takes the week with almost 600 points. Their team's top scorer is the aforementioned Van Aert, who added two Tour stages to his prodigious palmares of the last couple of months.  Van Aert now has 892 points, 6 away from matching his total of last year, despite the truncated season. Also scoring highly for Wallenquist were Andrea Bagioli (117 points, 35 teams), Joao Almeida (71 points, 19 teams), and two young guys who added 'oh, they can climb too' to their profile this week in Quinn Simmons (90 points) and Thomas Pidcock (47 points). Jon Ezeitza settles for second on the week, without Van Aert but one of the 3 owners of Tadej Pogacar (132 points), as well as the other aforementioned riders. Yellow Knight rounds out the podium led by 147 points from Jonathan Narvaez (10 teams) and contributing points from rare picks Sam Bennett and Peter Sagan.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Wallenquist   (+21)
    2   Jon_Ezeitza   (+20)
    3   Bicycle_Boy   (+16)
    4   Josedin   (+14)
    4   Salvarani   (+14)
    4   escartin   (+14)

Same top two high movers here, with both Wallenquist and Jon Ezeitza moving up over 20 places. Bicycle Boy nabs third here.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   230.7
    2   ChrisDK   192
    3   EvansIsTheBest   131
    4   Wallenquist   122
    4   Hakkie2   122

Wallenquist's points move them into the top 5, while everything else at the top holds steady. Jon Ezeitza's 35 points on the week move them juuuust behind the top 5, with 121.7 points.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    EvansIsTheBest

    7   (-2)   mineralJ   4665
    8   (-1)   Nathanptz   4654
    9   (+10)   Lortnoc   4634
    10   (-)   JPettersen   4613

It is continuing to tighten at the top! Jakob747 gains 58 more points on EvansIsTheBest, drawing closer for the third week in a row - 24 points  now separate them. They retain a healthy lead over the rest of the pack, nearly 500 points, although given that both of them have the out-for-the-season Evenepoel, the teams in their wake must feel at least a glimmer of hope. In the last several weeks, 18-Valve has been a distance behind but steadily in 3rd place, but has a very unfortunate week of just 34 points, which means their team drops 8 places to 11th, out of the top 10. Also sliding out is Hakkie2, while BlueRoads and Lortnoc each jump 10 places to land in the top 10.

Update #21: The Stages of Success

It's a bit of a transition week in the CQ game - although the Tour is in full force and the dissonance of the season continued with Tirenno-Adriatico overlapping, neither race awarded GC points in this update. Aside from a couple of 2.2 races and a 1.1 race won by a cyclo-crosser, the WT points this week came solely from stages (which included three wins by cyclo-crossers off the top of my head, so maybe the takeaway is that cyclo-crossers are killing it on the road these days). Let's see how it shook out.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   triley36   416
    2   Eric10   393
    3   zaka_fan   387
    4   comodoro   385
    5   DJ Sprtsch   382

triley36 comes out on top as the only team to top 400 points; Soren Kragh Andersen was the star for their team, parlaying a 1st and 3rd in Tour stages into 115 points for his 43 owners. Wins from Marc Hirschi (15 teams) and Dani Martinez (9 teams) supplemented 50 points for a 2nd place from Lennard Kamna (spoiler alert - at least 80 more to come this week) and 80 points from Simon Yates (also more to come). Eric10 comes in second, swapping in Lucas Hamilton (45 points) in place of Dani Martinez from the above combination,  and zaka_fan rounds out the podium with 60 from Sagan and 50 from Merlier to supplement Andersen/Yates/Kamna.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   dimasotf   (+13)
    2   triley36   (+12)
    3   Nicosix   (+10)
    3   Eric10   (+10)
    3   Team_Instigator   (+10)
    3   DJ Sprtsch   (+10)
    3   zaka_fan   (+10)

We are 21 weeks into the CQ season so 400 points isn't going to take you as far up the standings as earlier, but some teams still manage a double digit leap. dimasotf tops this one, riding Andersen/Yates/Kamna/Merlier/Hamilton to a 13 place rise. triley36 comes in second here, whereas 5 teams tie for third.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   236.7
    2   ChrisDK   192
    3   EvansIsTheBest   131
    4   Wallenquist   122
    4   Hakkie2   122

No scoring for the top teams aside from the one at the very top. Jakob747 gets 13th on the week and 6 more points in this competition, extending the lead over second place ChrisDK to 44.7 points. Of course a weekly win is worth 45 points, so ChrisDK is still technically within reach of the lead on any given week. The rest of the pack is quite a ways back.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (+1)
    Jakob747
    5552
    2   (-1)   EvansIsTheBest   5460
    3   (-)   Nyssinator   5035
    4   (+4)   Nathanptz   5000
    5   (-1)   skidmark   4999
    6   (-)   BlueRoads   4944
    7   (+2)   Lortnoc   4914
    8   (-3)   bminchow   4893
    9   (-2)   mineralJ   4887
    10   (+2)   Wallenquist   4844

There is a change at the very top for the first time in weeks. After slowly creeping up for a few weeks, Jakob747 gains 116 points on EvansIsTheBest thanks partially to Pogacar's amazing run, although that is likely to pay off more in the upcoming week. EITB remains comfortably in second for now, while Nyssinator stays in third. 150 points separates 3rd and 9th, so it's quite tight below the top two. Wallenquist moves into the top 10 at the expense of JPettersen.

The upcoming week has not only GC points for the Tour, but also for Tirenno, which ended on Monday. And for good measure, there are no fewer than 3 one-day races in Italy, and 1.1s in France and Belgium. It definitely has the potential for a points bonanza and an upheaval in the standings.

Correction: Week 21 standings in error

I was alerted to a formula error that affected the standings this week. Mellow Velo's team page was reading Quinn Simmons' seasonal score as his 'score last week' on the otherwise empty line below his name, and the 'this week points' column measured as if he had zero points from this season up to this week and 195 points up until last week, so the formula ended up giving Mellow Velo's team -195 points on this week, netted against the overall. With the correction, Mellow Velo's team actually won the week! Here are the restated standings:

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Mellow Velo   443
    2   triley36   416
    3   Eric10   393
    4   zaka_fan   387
    5   comodoro   385

Mellow Velo's correct points total allowed their team to enter the top 5 of the high movers as well:

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   dimasotf   (+13)
    2   triley36   (+12)
    3   Mellow Velo   (+11)
    4   Nicosix   (+10)
    4   Team_Instigator   (+10)
    4   zaka_fan   (+10)

I adjusted the Green Jersey standings appropriately as well. Simmons only started scoring a few weeks back, so I looked back to see if the error affected other weeks. There was one week where Mellow Velo would have finished 14th, so I adjusted the points accordingly as well.

Thanks all! I'm very curious to see what this week's standings will look like.

Update #22: Yes, This Week Was as Big as You Thought it Was

This week saw not only the end of the biggest race of the year and highest CQ points of the year in the Tour de France, but the normal effect that has on other races - to avoid the Tour's schedule, unless you're counterprogramming like the Tour of Austria or occasionally Poland in an Olympic year - was null and void in the year of covid, and GC points for another top-tier WT race in T-A happened too, as well as a host of one-day Italian races, the 2.1 Tour of Slovakia, and a few one-day races in France and Belgium. So, how did that affect the points totals and standings? The answer is, a whole lot.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Jakob747   1937
    2   Object   1802
    3   Nicosix   1785
    4   Marek   1773
    5   Salvarani   1703

Is 1937 the most points ever in a week? I am not a good enough historian to know off the top of my head, but I think maybe there was one week where someone broke 2000? I really don't know. But there is absolutely crazy strength in depth here - a full on 99 out of 113 teams scored at least 1000 points this week. So although lots of people scored at least 1/7.5 of their team's cost in a single week, your value above replacement level may vary.

One team that was certainly not complaining was the already-in-first-place Jakob747. One of the few teams that took a fairly wild-seeming chance on Pogacar at the start of the year, Jakob has reaped the benefits of beliefs in his young talents, and this week is the pinnacle of that faith. The 833 points from the young Slovenian and his phenomenal ride this week is definitely the highlight, but his selective more popular choices in Simon Yates (289) and Tom Dumoulin (282) really helped pad things too, as well as semi-rare picks like Steimle (158, 24 teams) and Kamna (124, 46 teams) and double stage-winner SKA (102, 43 teams) gaining over 100 points as well.

Object has little to complain about other than not getting first, as their team picked up 1802 points without Pogacar if you can believe it, but as one of the two who believed in Richie Porte (443 points), as well as more usual suspects of Yates, Dumoulin, Kwiatkowski, Andersen, as well as the rarer Sepp Kuss. Nicosix grabs third with an incredible grab-bag of riders including the more common Yates and Dumoulin, but also both main green jersey combatants Sagan (107 points) and Bennett (183 points), comeback kid Uran (203 points), Kelderman (146) and the ninja superdom Damiano Caruso (167, 2 teams).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Marek   (+32)
    2   Nicosix   (+22)
    3   Salvarani   (+19)
    4   flashke   (+17)
    4   abbulf   (+17)

Well Jakob had absolutely zero spots to move up, so this ranking was going to be different, but Marek takes the prize, leaping up almost a third of the standings with a top loaded team of Pogacar, Yates, Dumoulin and Gaviria. Nicosix is the only double podium finisher, while Salvarani jumps almost 20 spots to take third.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jakob747   279.7
    2   ChrisDK   192
    3   Wallenquist   132
    4   EvansIsTheBest   131
    5   Hakkie2   122

I mean, there are a good few weeks left in the season that goes into November, but holy crap. Jakob has an almost two-week lead on the next closest competitor in the contest, and for third-place Wallenquist to catch Jakob, their team would have to win 3 weeks to double their score (135 points more to make 267), and then another top placing. Wow, this is like peak Sagan green jersey stuff.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Jakob747
    7489
    2   (-)   EvansIsTheBest   6603
    3   (+11)   Object   6530
    4   (+1)   skidmark   6493
    5   (+4)   mineralJ   6430
    6   (+4)   Wallenquist   6413
    7   (+4)   Londonpat   6378
    8   (-1)   Lortnoc   6362
    9   (-6)   Nyssinator   6335
    10   (-2)   bminchow   6306

Whew! Everything is coming up Jakob. After moving back into first last week, Jakob747 wins the week with one of the biggest weekly totals ever, so their lead balloons to almost 900 points. Literally 3 other teams are within 1000 points. However - Evenepoel's season is done, I'm not sure what Pogacar is doing but normally his season would be over after TdF victory, and Higuita sadly crashed out of the Tour. Jakob has picked wisely in taking Yates and Dumoulin, but the risk-heavy, top-heavy team has its strong weeks and its less strong weeks, and there may be less strong weeks to come. It is a giant cushion, though, and sincere hats off for having it all come together. As someone who plays this game in a pretty calculated way, I admire those willing to take big risks, and Jakob's passion for obscure and developing riders has always been evident, so I am genuinely thrilled to see it paying off. But I'm still counting the points between us with interest! EvansIsTheBest holds on to second, albeit now closer to those behind than those ahead, and Object turns their fantastic week to a huge jump onto the podium. Even with all the hubbub, the only new entrants into the top 10 are Object and Londonpat, while BlueRoads and Nathanptz fall out.

This next week - well, we get a calm week coming down from the Tour, right? No wait, it's the Worlds. This truncated season is thoroughly dizzying.
