It was around this time last year that they announced their Giro team. This time it's their Tour team we know well in advance.

6 of the 8 named for the 2019 Giro in December 2018 actually made it to the start line in May. I expect a similair amount this time for the Tour.

I understand why they do it as they have got a decent amount of publicity by announcing the whole team but if riders are left out later on especially for reasons of not being in good enough form it just looks a bit silly to me.

    Long list for #bbhotels :

    Coquard
    Rolland
    Debusschere
    Backaert
    Barthe
    Gautier
    Pacher
    Chevalier
    Schönberger
    Reza

Vichot and Slagter the main omissions.

Chevalier is very green, but a good prospect. He was only meant to be joining mid-season, but that got advanced by a few months with the retirement of Turgis.

Bouhanni isn’t riding the Tour after all, he was planning to.

I gather he found out it was strictly a non-contact event this year.

Seems that the publicity caravan will not be completely scrapped.

Prudhomme added that the advertising caravan, a convoy of hundreds of vehicles promoting different companies that travels each stage ahead of the peloton, will be at 60 per cent of its previous size, due to the economic impact coronavirus has had on businesses.

    As for crowds.

“There will surely be no kisses or hugs during official ceremonies. And one might think that it is certainly not the best year to collect autographs. The public may come to the Tour but there will be a filter. In the mountains, we will favour those who climb on foot, by bicycle or in the transport established by local communities."

    Quote
Team Sunweb announced a number of selections today. Striking: no Tour or Belgian classics for Michael Matthews. "If I have to be honest, that decision has hit hard,"

“I only saw my definition program yesterday morning (Tuesday, ed.). Let's say it looks different from what I expected, yes. Around the turn of the year, however, there had been clear consultations with the team management. I would focus on the spring classics and the Tour de France. Six months later, neither the Tour nor the Belgian classics are still on the program… I'm not sure exactly why."

    Sunweb being Sunweb.

Or #sunweb Sunweb realizing that Matthews can’t bring all their Dutch customers to the yard in the same way as Cees Bool can.

it's certainly a bit odd. I mean, things are probably not looking too gloomy for Sunweb (the sponsor) at the moment, but if they want to get rid of some high earners early, there must surely be better ways?!

Especially strange given this year's route.
Matthews could have a real good chance of contesting the green jersey, while more pure sprinters will have to get over some serious climbs, very early in the race.

Does that mean he's on the same schedule as #sunweb Bling Matthews then?

If so, I get an idea why sunweb puts Matthews in those races, he is one of very few that can give Sagan a race for the points jersey. I would love to see that!
