Some analysis in here about the stages. There's not much climbing, so it will likely come down to the very short TT and bonifications.

interesting. Not sure his algorithm works particularly well on .2 level.

On paper, Aniolkowski, Banaszek, Fortin and Kankovsky look like the quickest sprinter to me. Hard to say who's the favourite though.

It was lucky you didn't end up doing a preview of the Trofeo Joaquim Agostinho btw. It got cancelled at the last minute as one of the race officials got corona-ed.

according to Polish media, they are not doing Covid-19 tests in that race, by the way

"All teams have been informed which restrictions apply. As an organizer, I do not require teams to bring certificates that they have been tested, because in our opinion this makes no sense. The cyclist was healthy yesterday and may be infected tomorrow, so it doesn't add much. And the teams would have to bear huge costs"

    https://rowery.org/2020/07/15/dookola-mazowsza-2020-pierwszy-wyscig-po-przerwie-jakie-zasady/

for Sibiu we got the information that for .1 races every team (riders + staff) need to have a negative PCR test from 72h before the race to be allowed to start. Maybe the UCI has communicated something different for .2 races - and of course the organisation is right about huge additional costs for the teams - but I'm really not sure that this is the right way to go...

Someone there hasn't understood the concept of the 'team bubbles'. The whole point is that, after a negative test, you have no contact to anyone other than your teammates & staff (and, during the race, the other teams' riders).
    :fp

Yes, it costs a lot. But I'd vastly prefer that over becoming another UAE Tour or what could be worse.
I predict that many Conti teams (and maybe even some pro teams?) will race only very little (if at all) in the upcoming months as they can't afford quasi-continuous testing.

the updated UCI protocol now specifically allows pool testing, so (if the laboratories offer it already) it's actually not that expensive anymore. You can do for example 5 tests, the samples are mixed together, and if the result is negative, you know that all 5 are negative, at the price of one - if not, all 5 need to be re-analyzed and you pay for 6 in the end, but at the current infection level in Europe, in the vast majority of cases this will not happen

Incidentally, nothing was noticed of Corona at the race itself, practically everything was the same as before. We had a normal team presentation and did not have to walk around with masks in the start / finish area. There were hardly any spectators there, only occasionally on the track. I think that was arranged in advance by the organizer. The starting grid was also quite normal.

The delay was due to them shortening the course (they removed the technical section). According to twitter there was rain for the later starters, but that didn't stop Aniolkowski from putting in a good time.

~50 riders still within 10 seconds, so it's still all up for grabs.

Thanks for that bit of info. I hadn't understood what "pool testing" was, even though I'd read about it.
Seems like a clever and efficient method to accelerate the process.

Some more about the bubble the ICA riders are in.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CCxjccIgWTf/

    Quote
Normally on race days @lahavd would wake up, change some clothes and go downstairs to the restaurant. In the ‘new normality’ he has to wait patiently in his room for food. The new corona regulations try to keep him as far as possible from contamination, and avoiding the restaurant is not the only measure taken to keep him uncontaminated.

"It is difficult", Davidzon admits. "But after such a long period without racing, I want to compete as much as possible. Therefore I do whatever it takes to stay healthy."

While Davidzon has to stay in his hotel room, Israel Cycling Academy soigneurs @xescocastello and @alexismg93 prepare his breakfast in a private ICA-camper. The two soigneurs have a tiny kitchen where they make breakfast, lunch and dinner for the group of twelve (riders and staff). It’s a responsibility on top of their work they already have to do.

Davidzon’s oats, cereals and bread is prepared and put in a box that first has been cleaned. Xesco leaves the camper with a face mask on and makes his way to Davidzon’s hotel room. He drops the breakfast and returns back to the camper. While Davidzon enjoys his breakfast, Xesco is preparing the food for the staff members. Corona: It’s the end of a ‘all-you-can-eat’-era in cycling.

Davidzon and the five other continental riders haven’t left the hotel room till they start to get themselves ready to go to the start line of the race. There is no rider meeting at the start, neither do they get to see or speak to riders of other teams before the race. Basically, Israel Cycling Academy travels straight from the hotel to start line, avoiding as much time with other people outside the ‘bubble’ as possible, and if it is necessary to be in touch with others from outside, 1,5m and a face mask are the way to go.

At the start and finish everyone tries to keep a distance from each other, and after the race the riders go straight to the busses. At the hotel, they go directly to their rooms, uploading their rides onto @trainingpeaks.

In addition, ISN and ICA have done blood- and PCR-tests towards the training camps and races, also for Dookola and will keep doing that towards future competitions.

It doesn't sound much fun I have to say, but I guess the riders are just glad to get out and away from the indoor trainers

Small field, so all the teams and riders should be visible. PCS has Vino Motors down riding as well. Not sure who is correct.

I added profiles the other day. Very mountainous. I vaguely remember, more than a few years back, the organizers saying they were going to tone the climbing down a bit. Maybe they did for a year or two, but normal service has been resumed.

    Some points of interest:

Froidveaux is just off the back of a decent Sibiu. Could do okay here as not many others will have race days in the legs.

#rally are here and even brought some Americans (plus their two French stagiaires).

Rolland is the "big" name at the race. However it wouldn't surprise me if his young team mate Chevalier did better overall.

#androni with lots of potential winners.

Lotto U23s could provide the main opposition with Verschaeve, Van Gils and Vervloesem.

Direct Velo has, of course, a ticker for the race.

    Current situation:

En tête : Thomas CHAMPION (Bourg-en-Bresse Ain Cyclisme), Florent CASTELLARNAU, Maxime URRUTY (Team Pro Immo Nicolas Roux), Antoine DEBONS (Akros-Excelsior-Thömus), Maël GUÉGAN (Rally Cycling), et Joab SCHNEITER (Swiss Racing Academy)

A 3', Robin PLAMONDON (Israel Cycling Academy CT)

    A 8', le peloton

Plamondon isn't going to make it across. DS should tell him to sit up. Androni have started rolling at the front of the peloton. 62km to go.

15km to go and the gap is still over 7 minutes. Considering that the climbing stops with 7km to go, we can assume the stage winner will come from the break.

Champion had dropped them all (just about) on the climb, but the Swiss caught him on the descent.

Four and a half minutes may seem a lot, but they're bound to be a little bit cooked after today, and tomorrow there's a double-header with lots of climbing in both stages.
