[2.1] Tour Colombia 2.1
« on: February 01, 2020, 18:43 »
Tour Colombia 2.1 11th - 16th February

Etapa 1: Tunja - Tunja TTT (16.7 km)

That bump looks more significant on the official profile. Might have a closer look nearer the time.

Etapa 2: Paipa - Duitama (152.4 km)

Not the Duitama circuit.

Etapa 3: Paipa - Sogamoso (177.7 km)

Etapa 4: Paipa - Santa Rosa de Viterbo (168.6 km)

Etapa 5: Paipa - Zipaquira (174.9 km)

Etapa 6: Zipaquira - El Once Verjon (182.6 km)

In 2018 the base altitude was ~1000m for most days, but obviously going up higher for the climbs and MTFs.

2019 had a couple of days averaging around the 1500m mark, but the rest again higher.

This year it looks like virtually every single kilometre of the race will be at 2500m and higher. :o

Not that he's South American, but still no news on Amador. It's really dragging out.

Crazy to think that you could select your squad using only South American riders, and still end up with that much talent on one team. And you also have two other TdF winners in reserve just for fun. Sounds more like a video game.

Not much, but breakaway attempts, as I see it! This is not the best #unox team. Then again, the team develops riders and Idar Andersen is perhaps the most interesting subject to speak of in that context. However, as he needs to take the rest of the team with him on stage 1, I think the race doesn't suit him. If it had been an individual time trial he might be in top 10,  if acclimatizing well.

It is largely unknown how these riders will respond to a season starter at altitude, though.

This isn't the A team. Idar Andersen is U23 #champno, the rest are mainly rouleurs & equipiers. Half of them raced Gylne Gutuer, they won't exactly feel at home in Colombia.

It's the team's first race as a pro team; they know how to manage their own expectations. This is just for experience, and anything on top will be a bonus.

Also interesting to see a company called Northug listed as sponsor - t-72, is this Petter Northug the CX skier?

Yes, his company is a is a well known supplier of fast sunglasses. To be honest, I am not sure if it is his company or just a brand owned by others, paying him royalties. Cross country skiers regularly become brands here, Dæhlie and Johaug for example. A slightly more exotic contribution is Kari Traa, a girls sport equipment brand taking its name from a mogul skier. Just to point out it smaller sports can also feed commercial success.
However, no one gets attention like Petter Nordtug, and fast glasses is definetly a success already. How they will sell in Columbia is a different question. A business partnership with Gaviria or Hodeg could be a good idea, Petter.

I doubt it'll fall anywhere near Tejay's shoulders.

EF have basically sent the Tour team to Colombia.

    Updated the profiles.

There are a few sprinters here, but outside of Deceuninck I don't see too many teams with the rouleurs to control the race and they won't like being forced into that role with no assistance from others. Maybe we'll see a successful break or more late attacks like last year (by Jungels) to outfox the other team's sprinters.

Assuming the race is on ESPN in Colombia, I think this site may offer a solution.

    https://futbollibre.online/

Tried all 3 channels and they worked fine for me and there are two chances as it's live on both espn 2 and 3.
Coverage details such as timings and repeats can be found here, but it looks to be around 6pm cet, 5pm in the UK.

That bump looks more significant on the official profile. Might have a closer look nearer the time.

On Street View the bump is difficult to see, which I think tells us all we need to know.

As for tomorrow's result, anything other than an EF or Deceuninck win would be a major surprise.
