  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

    Stage 21

    Green points

1   DJSprtsch   85 (Pedersen and Sagan)
2=   Googolplex, Laarsland, Search, Shalgo   80 (Bennett)
    6=   Bminchow, Yellow_Knight   35 (Sagan)
    8=   ArchieBoy, ChrisDK, Ray10   10  (Van Aert)
11   BluesInTheBottle, Josedin, JustSomeGuy, Koronin, SafeBet   2 (Coquard)
    16   The rest   0

    Final Green Standings

Archie spent much of the race in the lead in this classification, but in the end, Sagan-like, he succumbed to Sam Bennett.  Hirschi getting more stage points than Mezgec was the maiin difference that gets Search the minor award.

    Stage 21   Main Game

Very little change in rider scores other than the stage points, not even 20 points for the leader

    BENNETT Sam   80   4 teams
    PEDERSEN Mads   50   1
    SAGAN Peter   35   3
    VAN AERT Wout   10   3

    ---
    MARTIN Daniel   -1   4

    Today

    almost exactly as above

    1   DJSprtsch   85

    2   Laarsland   80
    2   Search   80

    Final standings

In the end, Bol finished behind Coquard, so all my calculations were redundant.  Just Some Guy slightly extends his winning margin, and Search passes Amis Velo to grab the final podium spot.

Well done to JSG, to Salvarani for also investing in the winner, and to Search for his double coup on the last day; thanks to all the entrants, and to the CQ and PCS websites, and to those who have retained interest so far.

More numbers tomorrow: spreadsheet is on the link at the end of yesterday's post, but I will generate some analysis tomorrow, all things being well.

And the battle between the forums for their average scores was of Lemond/Fignon closeness: Velorooms 1104.58; CN 1104.53

But it is thanks to you.  If you had picked a team that scored 627, Cycling News would have won.

I didn't put my own score in either team: although Amis Velo sent his team to me by text, I counted it as VeloRooms, because if he does use one of the forums, it is this one.

thanks for organizing the game again. :cool

3rd isn't bad, I guess. As MV said the other day, "[Even :angel] Jens Voigt couldn't beat JSG in Velogames", so I'll just paraphrase that into something positive :D

    Green point scorers

Those winning a stage, or points at least equivalent to that:
    POGACAR Tadej   345   2 teams
    BENNETT Sam   323   4
    ROGLIC Primoz   270   4
    VAN AERT Wout   265   3
    EWAN Caleb   218   0
    ANDERSEN Søren Kragh   198   0

    HIRSCHI Marc   166   2
    SAGAN Peter   152   3
    KÄMNA Lennard   130   7
    PEDERSEN Mads   125   1
    MEZGEC Luka   116   3
LOPEZ MORENO Miguel Angel   115   6
    ALAPHILIPPE Julian   111   2
    KRISTOFF Alexander   105   0
CARAPAZ MONTENEGRO Richard Antonio   102   0
    PORTE Richie   97   0

    BOL Cees   93   7
    KWIATKOWSKI Michal   85   1
    LUTSENKO Alexey   85   0
    VAN AVERMAET Greg   85   0

MARTINEZ POVEDA Daniel Felipe   80   4
    PETERS Nans   80   0

    Who had them?

1   Search   669 (Bennett, Hirschi, Lopez)
2   Laarsland   649 (Bennett, Mezgec, Lopez)
3   ArchieBoy   647 (Van Aert, Mezgac, Bol, Martinez)
    4   Salvarani   598 (Pogacar, Bol)
    5   Scrool07   585 (Hirschi, Kamna, Bol, Martinez)
6   ChrisDK   567 (Van Aert, Kamna, Martinez)
    7   Googolplex   542 (Bennett, Bol)
    8   Ray10   535 (Van Aert, Kamna, Kwiatkowski)
    9   JustSomeGuy   510 (Pogacar)
    10   Shalgo   486 (Bennett)
    11   DJSprtsch   445 (Sagan, Pedersen)
    12   BluesInTheBottle   435 (Roglic)
    13   AmisVelo   429 (Roglic, Bol)
    14   Otoxiep87   415 (Mezgec, Lopez, Bol)
    15   Del1962   381 (Roglic)
    16   BicycleBoy   370 (Roglic)
    17   Josedin   359 (Kamna, Alaphilippe)
    18   Armchair_Cyclist   342 (Kamna, Lopez)
    19   Yellow_Knight   332 (Sagan, Martinez)
    20   SafeBet   279 (Alaphilippe)
    21   Northerner   275 (Lopez)
22   Koronin   266 (none of these, Coquard (77) as highest)
    23   Bminchow   249 (Sagan)
    24   Comodoro   238 (Bol)
    25   BikeRacer33   228 (Kamna)
    26   Pirate81   221  (Kamna)
    27   Mellow_Velo   214 (Bol)
    28   Triley36   187 (none of these, highest Rolland (65))
    29   Rote_Laterne   157 (None, Dumoulin (52))
    30   Leadbelly   134 (None, Dumoulin (52))
       Collective_Wisdom   277 (Kamna, Bol)
So I think that means 8 managers never got to claim that their rider had one the stage.

If you had a focus on this classification alone, and with remarkable foresight, you could have had
    POGACAR Tadej
    BENNETT Sam
    VAN AERT Wout
    ANDERSEN Søren Kragh
    HIRSCHI Marc
    MEZGEC Luka
    VERONA QUINTANILLA Carlos
    ROWE Luke

as a team, just within budget, scoring 1453 in this classification alone and easily winning the main game with 2527.

    REZA Kévin

    Best possible team
This might not be the best possible, but without trying too many permutations, this is the best I can find.  Let me know if you can find a better one (@Hakkie2 nearly always could, but hasn't been on these games for a while)
    POGACAR Tadej
    PORTE Richie
    MAS NICOLAU Enric
    YATES Adam
    DUMOULIN Tom
    ANDERSEN Søren Kragh
    HIRSCHI Marc
    URAN URAN Rigoberto
Cost 3977, Score 3074 (and 941 for the green game)

    Winner's team

    POGACAR Tadej   1048
    MAS NICOLAU Enric   322
    DUMOULIN Tom   282
    COQUARD Bryan   122
    PINOT Thibaut   54
    BUCHMANN Emanuel   33
    GIBBONS Ryan   21
    DE GENDT Thomas   20

and in terms of what separated him from the 50% identical team of Salvarani
    JSG
    MAS NICOLAU Enric   322
    COQUARD Bryan   122
    BUCHMANN Emanuel   33
    GIBBONS Ryan   21

    Salvarani
    MARTIN Guillaume   180
    ROLLAND Pierre   152
    BOL Cees   113
    MARTIN Daniel   30

So essentially, it was Jens Debusschere's sacrificing himself to keep Coquard inside the lime limit on stage 17 that won it for Just Some Guy.

Here is the spreadsheet, and I'll see you all far too soon for the Giro.
