So the field has been decimated.

Kruijswijk takes 120 points off 30 teams, and Matthews costs 21 teams 40 points each.  two more chosen riders leave the race, affecting three teams.  Upward moves to plug these gaps costs gains no rider more that 12 points.

Although Googolplex still has 8 riders going, five teams are reduced to just three men on today's startline.

But DJSprtsch has none of this morning's DNS list in his team, and the top five would be:

    1   DJSprtsch   1504
    2   LosBrolin   1347*
    3   Leadbelly   1347
    4   Fivezzz   1347
    5   Bminchow   1288

    * by virtue of third biggest scorer

    And because someone asked:
    Tean Velorooms average:  963
    CN Squad average:   887
    (Sunday night's scores)

    Stage 10  Sagan not second

    Purple points

A complete podium on the stage for DJSprtsch, and a bit more besides.  I'm not sure if we have had that on GT games before.

1   DJSprtsch   138  (Sagan, McNulty, Almeida and Kelderman)
2   Googolplex   110 (Sagan and McNulty)
3   Nathanptz   100 (Sagan, Almeida and Konrad)
4   Salvarani   75 (Sagan and Konrad)
    5   Del1962   70 (Sagan)
    6   Kazistuta, Triley36   40 (McNulty)
8   LosBrolin   33 (Almeida, Konrad and Kelderman)
    9=   ArchieBoy, BikeRacer33, Mellow_Velo   30  (Almeida and Konrad)
12=   Bminchow, ChrisDK, Fivezzz, Leadbelly   28
    16   Nakazar   25
    17   RedheadDane   10
    18   Armchair_Cyclist   8
    19   Scrool07   7
    20=   Laarsland, Rote_Laterne, Search   5
    23   Shalgo   3
    24=   The rest   0
       Collective_Wisdom   18

    Standings

The top two are not as far clear, but hold their positions: Googolplex rises 5 places and Salvarani by 11.

    1   Del1962   455
    2   Nathanptz   439
    3   DJSprtsch   381
    4   Googolplex   325
    5   Salvarani   262
    6   BikeRacer33   247
    7   ArchieBoy   246
    7   Mellow_Velo   246
    9   Bminchow   237
    9   ChrisDK   237
    9   Fivezzz   237
    9   Leadbelly   237

    Main game

There were major changes even before the stage started, and some significant GC changes once cycling became relevant too.

MCNULTY Brandon   70 points for 4 teams
    SAGAN Peter   70   5
ALMEIDA Joao Pedro Gonçalves   55   11
    KONRAD Patrick   55   10
    HINDLEY Jai   50   1
    MASNADA Fausto   38   2
    MAJKA Rafal   37   1
    GANNA Filippo   26   3
    KANGERT Tanel   23   1
    GEOGHEGAN HART Tao   18   1
    ZAKARIN Ilnur   16   1
    ----
    DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd   -14   2
    CRADDOCK Lawson   -15   1
    HAIG Jack   -38   2
    MATTHEWS Michael   -40   21
    FUGLSANG Jakob   -95   4
    KRUIJSWIJK Steven   -120   30

Very significant losses for some of the most popular picks: the teams who did better today are largely those who scored very low in the popularity stakes.

1   DJSprtsch   196  (Sagan, McNulty and Almeida, only Dombrowski losing points)
2   RedheadDane   64 (Hindley, but no negative scores at all)
3   Nathanptz   43 (Sagan, Almeida, Konrad, but both Matthews and Kruijswijk)
4   Googolplex   36 (McNulty and Sagan, but Fuglsang)
    5   Jakob747   20
    6   Salvarani   17
    7   LosBrolin   -7
    8   Mellow_Velo   -38
    9   ArchieBoy   -50
    9   Armchair_Cyclist   -50
    9   BikeRacer33   -50
    12   Del1962   -64

    14   Scrool07   -71
    15   Kazistuta   -77

    19   Rote_Laterne   -92
    20   BicycleBoy   -94
    20   Yellow_Knight   -94
    22   Nakazar   -105
    22   Search   -105
    24   Shalgo   -107
    25   Laarsland   -113
    26   Comodoro   -119
    27   AmisVelo   -132
    28   Northerner   -140
    29   ChrisDK   -141
    30   Koronin   -146

    Standings

Lots of change:  The stage's podium, and being relatively unaffected by the non-starters, means the DJSprtsch suddenly has a huge lead.  The new podium have all progressed today, but it is Redhead Dane's randomised selection that has the biggest move forward.

Stage 11 A Scheldeprijs of a stage on Scheldeprijs day.

A much calmer day on the road and in the lab.

    Purple points

    1   Del1962   65 (Sagan and Hodeg)

The top 5 are the five Sagan teams.  The close grouping of those following them is illustrated by Bicycle Boy rising 9 places on account of one third place.

The highest any change in positions is found is Googolplpex taking the lead in the battle of the non-Almeida teams.  Los Brolin holds on to second because his second highest scorer (Kelderman) outperforms Nathan's (Sagan).

Tomorrow I fear will be an unchallenged and largely irrelevant breakaway stage.  But someone might have chosen the right men in that breakaway.

Yesterday's long DNS list, and the fact that the four most popular picks in the game are now out, make an update of the "How many riders left?" table timely:
    8 riders: Googolplex
    7:  RedheadDane
    6:  DJSprtsch, Scrool07
    5: Armchair_Cyclist, BicycleBoy, BluesInTheBottle, Del1962, Jakob747, SafeBet, Salvarani, Shalgo, Yellow_Knight
4: AmisVelo, Bminchow, Comodoro, Fivezzz, JustSomeGuy, Kazistuta, Koronin, Laarsland, Leadbelly, LosBrolin, Nakazar, Nathanptz, Northerner, Rote_Laterne, Search, Triley36 and Collective Wisdom
Just three men still going:  ArchieBoy, BikeRacer33, ChrisDK, Mellow_Velo, Otoxiep87

    Standings

DJSprtsch already had a huge lead, then he tops the day and his nearest rivals get a negative score.  The lead was already over 200, now it is over 450.  A dominance not seen in these games since Tobydawq ran away with the Spring Classics game back in the days when they took place in the spring.  But more than 2000 in one of these games is pretty impressive, even if he had not had the lost expectations with Yates and Thomas.  Leaden FiveBelliezzz complete the podium, and Hanninen still leads Rubio by 1'58.

Stage 15 Mountains again (at last?)

Sorry not to have done this last night.  Count it as building up the anticipation.

    Purple points
1   AmisVelo   71 (Geoghegan Hart, Nibali)
2   LosBrolin   62 (Kelderman, Almeida, Konrad)
3=   Fivezzz, Leadbelly   60 (Kelderman, Almeida, Knox)
5=   Bminchow, ChrisDK, DJSprtsch   55 (Kelderman, Almeida)
    8   Armchair_Cyclist   48 (Kelderman, Konrad, Nibali)
    9   Shalgo   41(Kelderman, Nibali)
    10   RedheadDane   26 (Hindley, Nibali)
    11=   ArchieBoy, BikeRacer33, Mellow_Velo, Nathanptz   22
    15   Nakazar   16
    16   Scrool07   11
    17=   Laarsland, Rote_Laterne, Salvaran, Search   8
    21   BluesInTheBottle   7
    22   Northerner   6
    23=   Googolplex, SafeBet   3
    25   JustSomeGuy   2
    26=   BicycleBoy, Comodoro, Del1962, Kazistuta, Triley36   1
    31   Jakob747, Koronin, Otoxiep87, Yellow_Knight   0
       Collective_Wisdom   8

    Standings

Bminchow moves up a spot, breaking the Sagan teams' stranglehold on the top 5: LeadFivezz reenters the top ten.

    1   Del1962   593
    2   Nathanptz   585
    3   DJSprtsch   559
    4   Googolplex   425

    7   Leadbelly   348
    10   ArchieBoy   347
    10   Mellow_Velo   347

Of the top three, and ignoring riders withdrawn or of all three teams, the battle is between:
    Del1962:  Ganna, Hodeg, Nibali, Dibben
    Nathanptz:  Almeida, Konrad, Kangert
DJSprtsch:  Almeida, Kelderman McNulty Dombrowski and Valter

    Main game

A good day for unique picks: Amis Velo was gloating in his texts to me last night, and Redhead Dane's pick of Hindley might have been considered an act of genius if she had not previously admitted that her selection was totally random.

    34   Googolplex   -241

    Standings
Los Brolin, largely by not having Nibali, moves up to second.  In the battles of the ninth men, Rubio made much more of an effort on this stage than Hanninen, and now lies more than 26 minutes ahead of him on GC, so Fivezzz has the advantage over Leadbelly.

    Stage 16

    Purple points

I guess the breakaway composition took pity on my doubling games this week.

    1   BluesInTheBottle, JustSomeGuy   40 (O'Connor)
    3   Search   25 (Battaglin)
    4   ArchieBoy   5 (Bouchard)
5   RedheadDane   3 (Boaro and Tonelli)
    6   Everyone else   0

Archie moves from 10th to 7th, none of the rest of the ten scored.

Stage 17  More anticipation than action

    Purple points
Those who had a good day with O'Connor yesterday had a very good day with him today.

    1   BluesInTheBottle, JustSomeGuy   70 (O'Connor)
    3   Googolplex, Salvarani, Yellow_Knight   25 (De Gendt)
    6   Otoxiep87   15 (Zakarin)
    7   Everyone else   0

Of those who scored, only Googolplex and Salvarani are in the top ten, and neither of them improved their position.

Six of the Almeida teams, including the top five, have Kelderman too, so even if the long anticipated change of pink jersey happens tomorrow, it will probably make little difference here.  Maybe it is just the lower steps on the podium that remain to be contested (and in relation to the, Hanninen has greatly reduced his deficit to Rubio today).

Although he is out of the lead, Almeida is still the main indicator of having a good standing here: 270 points in leader's bonuses will do that.  The top six now still have the pink jersey wearer, but there are now two non-Almeida teams ahead of some of those who have him.

Even in the absence of this forum, they continued with the Giro, and you have probably all seen the outcomes at CN forum.  But in case you didn't, DJSprtsch won, Leadbelly in 5th was the highest placed of those who entered here, but Velorooms beat Cycling News on average score by 939 to 902.
