Race News 2021: Rumours, Dates, Parcours and Wildcards

The Vuelta a San Juan is on the calendar ....... for now. However what UCI categorization it is given and what teams will be there is not clear.

At the very minimum it should be .2 with just the local CTs and some clubs. The organizers are trying however to remain at the .Pro level and in addition to the locals to have national teams from Colombia, Ecuador, Italy, Spain etc. Italy do usually go there with their track team, but it doesn't seem realistic to expect Ineos, Movistar etc to allow their stars to go ride there.

Other than the TT and the climb to Alto Colorado all stages would begin and end at the Villicum racetrack which doesn't sound too thrilling.

Furahi Day had me scratching my head for a bit. Is it just a phonetic Friday? Kinda

    Quote
    It’s Furahi Day!!!

    Happy new weekend everybody!

And just in case the joke flew right past you, Furahi Day is what young folks in E.Afrika call Friday, notice they sound kinda similar. And of course I’d jump into any opportunity to give a wee Swahili lesson so here goes:

‘Furahi‘ comes from the noun ‘furaha‘ which means happiness, so basically ‘furahi‘ means be happy! Needless to say, Furahi Day for us is the day that we are all happy (like seriously who dares be grumpy on a Friday?!)

So have fun everybody and if you do drink, do the smart thing and get yourself a taxi (or a sub driver)!

    It's Furahi Day! :D

Nice mix of teams from all corners of the globe.

The stages don't look bad either. Not much there for the sprinters.

A new old race to kick off the European season.

    Quote
Next season 2021 will see a prestigious test that should never have disappeared. The Valencia Grand Prix was a professional cyclist race that was celebrated annually in the Valencian Community at the beginning of the cyclist season. Each year it was the exit gun to the men's professional competition in Europe. The one day test was held between 1969 and 2005, when it ceased to take place.
Now, next January 24, the fans of cycling will enjoy again with the number 52 edition of a classic Valencian that once awoke passions. ′′ It consisted of a flat race, very much given to massive arrivals solved at the sprint. That's why the international platoon's great sprinters entered their name in the Palmares of the Valencian competition ", former Alicantino professional cyclist Antonio Molina recalls. Names like Sunday Perurena, Noël Dejonckheere, Mathieu Hermans, Sean Kelly, Laurent Jalabert, Mario Cipollini, Erik Zabel, Alesandro Petacchi and Oscar Freire"

A new old race to kick off the European season.

Just checked CQ and this will be the first .2 race of any kind in Spain since 2013 (Vuelta a Leon and Vuelta a la Comunidad de Madrid which were respectively won by Jordi and Vakoc), and the first .2 one-day race since 2007 (Klasika Txuma won by Shpilevsky)!

I guess it starts at 1.2 because it has to - after such a long hiatus, you can't just jump in at a higher level anymore. The target must be 1.1 at least, to attract more than just a few pro teams.

As 1.2, the race is limited to *es ProTeams + up to 2 foreign ProTeams, and of course Continental and non-UCI teams.
