Update #19: Dauphine shakes up standings

No rest after the Giro finish - the Dauphine started on the last day of the Giro, and after 8 stages, a good number of high profile riders of medium popularity in the game filled up the overall standings. Without the baseline of Bernal's points to raise most teams, there was some more differentiation this week than last, which led to some fluctuation at the top.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Tigerion   959
    2   Bonimenier   825
    3   escartin   781
    4   laarsland   767
    5   Object   755

Tigerion blew away the competition this week, scoring almost 1000 points with a lineup including 255 points from Lutsenko (who is finally performing for the 31 teams that have him), 210 from Geraint Thomas (31 teams), 136 from Jack Haig (4 teams), 128 from Superman Lopez (15 teams), and 87 from Gaudu (19 teams). An impressive array. Bonimenier is over 130 points back in second place, with Lutsenko/Thomas being supplmented by a good week from Colbrelli (151, 18) and the evergreen Valverde (111, 4). escartin squeezes into third with a similar lineup (swap out Valverde for Gaudu and you've got the gist of it).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Tigerion   (+15)
    1   del1962   (+15)
    3   Bonimenier   (+13)
    4   Rebecops   (+11)
    5   laarsland   (+10)
    5   bminchow   (+10)

There's a tie atop these standings, with Tigerion getting the double win but sharing this one with del1962, who was 12th in the Top Scorers ranking but was evidently at a bunched up point in the standings.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    2   Otoxiep87   190
    3   Boris98   168.67
    4   postmanhat   126
    5   Hakkie2   123.67

No changes in the top 5 here; the highest point scorer was Tigerion moving into 7th overall with the 45 points provided by the weekly win.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Total Package
    9610
    2   (+1)   Squire   9515
    3   (-1)   Northerner   9337
    3   (+6)   Object   9337
    5   (+2)   Boris98   9288
    6   (-)   Armchair cyclist   9185
    7   (-2)   Hugo Koblet   9132
    8   (-)   Fivezzz   8998
    9   (+4)   MADRAZO   8993
    10   (-6)   Otoxiep87   8933

Lots of movement here, although Total Package hangs onto the lead. Squire switches spots with Northerner behind and pulls within 100 points of the lead, and Object leaps up to tie for the third podium spot. MADRAZO comes back into the top 10 at the expense of manafana, who falls out. Lots of movement below the top 10 as well, check out the table to see.

There's a lot of racing this week, with the Tour du Suisse underway, but also two 2.Pro races in Slovenia and Belgium and a 2.1 race in France, plus a couple of 1.1s sprinkled in, as well as the Baby Giro for the youths. Then after this week it's national champs week, and then the Tour already!

    Update #20: Bicing's big week

The Tour du Suisse is in the rearview, and it's full speed ahead to La Tour! With a flurry of activity in Belgium, France and elsewhere, it was an eclectic week, with teams scoring a wide range of points.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Bicing   851
    2   del1962   800
    3   NorthAmericanScum   663
    4   Salvarani   661
    5   R_O_Shipman   632

Two teams stood out from the rest this week, with Bicing and del1962 clearing 800 points. Bicing gets the nod for top spot though thanks to some rare picks. Leading the pack is 250 points from a resurgent Rigoberto Uran (8 teams). Bicing is also among the 39 teams breathing a sigh of relief that Evenepoel's disastrous (for CQ purposes) Giro wasn't an inidcator that his year will be a writeoff, as he nabbed 222 points for a win in Belgium. But what put Bicing over the top was 114 points from bold pick Pozzovivo (2 teams) and 119 from unique pick Oscar Rodriguez. del also had Uran and Remco, but supplementary points were a little less, with Oomen (90 points, 13 teams) and Mohoric (86 points, 5 teams) as support. NorthAmericanScum just nabs third spot thanks to Uran and 215 points from a now-in-profit Michael Woods (3 teams), who could prove to be a great pick with the Tour and Olympics still to come.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Tigerion   (+10)
    1   JPettersen   (+10)
    3   search   (+9)
    3   NorthAmericanScum   (+9)
    5   Wallenquist   (+8)

Although finishing in 25th and 15th respectively in points scored on the week, Tigerion and JPettersen move up the standings the most thanks to being in a closely bunched part of the standings. Each team moves up ten spots, splitting the top spot. NorthAmericanScum is the only repeat podium finisher, tying with search for third on the week.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    2   Otoxiep87   190
    3   Boris98   168.67
    4   postmanhat   126
    5   Hakkie2   123.67

Nobody in the top 5 (or, for that matter, the top 17 overall) scores any Green Jersey points this week, so Hugo stays on top.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points

    5   (-)   Boris98   9520
    6   (+4)   Otoxiep87   9416
    7   (-1)   Armchair cyclist   9415
    8   (-1)   Hugo Koblet   9336
    9   (-)   MADRAZO   9308
    10   (-2)   Fivezzz   9233

It was a quiet week at the top, with only 2 of the top 10 overall finishing in the top 50 scores for the week. As a result, no one moves in and out of the top 10, and there's only some swapping of minor placings. Total Package maintains an almost 200 point lead at the top, with Object and Squire flipping the other podium spots.

This week - it's national championship week! This one's always a bit unpredictable with so many riders gaining varying points here and there, it's best just to follow along as best you can and wait until the dust settles.

Update #21: Nationals are kind to Koronin as leaders pass 10,000 points

With the Dauphine and Tour du Suisse wrapped up, and most national championships happening in the last week, we are decisively turning to Tour season. Nationals week is always an eclectic mix in the CQ game, with so many riders and so many points on offer at once, it often comes down to who has a few high scoring rare riders and the best mix in all. Let's see how it went down.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Koronin   795
    2   Bonimenier   756
    3   tom_jelte   687
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   678
    5   tobydawq   670

Koronin has the most unique team in the competition this year (check out the "Rank Popularity" tab on the sheet) and it pays off this week, as their team gets a weekly win! This is driven by two riders winning NC1 races and the 140 points that come with it, Remi Cavagna in France (3 teams) and Sonny Colbrelli in Italy (18 teams). Add to this 70 points from Matthias Norsgaard (5 teams), 60 each from unique picks Jonas Koch and Jesus Herrada, and several more rare picks scoring handfuls here and there, and it translates to first place! Bonimenier is the only team that comes close, with Colbrelli also leading the charge but support coming from 114 points from Remco Evenepoel (who has scored 336 in the last two weeks, blunting the Giro disappointment a bit more) and several riders scoring 40-70 points. One rider on Bonimenier's roster to look out for is Tom Dumoulin, who was only included on 4 teams after he put his career on hold, but had 50 this week and is now starting to look a bit like his old self. tom-jelte nabs third place, with another NC1 winner in Wout Van Aert leading the way and Remco included as well.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Jon_Ezeitza   (+11)
    2   tobydawq   (+8)
    2   skidmark   (+8)
    2   Bonimenier   (+8)
    5   Salvarani   (+6)
    5   Galpedal   (+6)
    5   the asian   (+6)

As the season goes on, the fluctuations in the standings get smaller, and as such Jon Ezeitza is the only team to move up double digits this week. tobydawq, skidmark and Bonimenier tie for second by moving up 8, and all of the podium teams are similarly led in points by Colbrelli and Evenepoel.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    2   Otoxiep87   190
    3   Boris98   168.67
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   146
    4   postmanhat   146

Some movement on this chart this week - postmanhat was in 5th last week and scored 20 points to skip over Hakkie2, whereas Jon Ezeitza was 6th last week and scored 26 points, the result of which is that both teams are now tied for 4th. Neither are within 45 points of Hugo Koblet in the lead, however, and none of the top 3 have closed the gap.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Total Package
    10447
    2   (-)   Object   10259
    3   (-)   Squire   10231
    4   (-)   Northerner   10030
    5   (-)   Boris98   9981
    6   (-)   Otoxiep87   9973
    7   (-)   Armchair cyclist   9837
    8   (+8)   Bonimenier   9795
    9   (+3)   postmanhat   9752
    10   (-)   Fivezzz   9720

No changes at the very top this week, as the top 7 all finished within 150 points of each other and therefore didn't flip spots. There were some leaps further down, as Bonimenier and postmanhat jumped into the top 10, while Hugo Koblet (after a long time in the top 10) and MADRAZO fall out for now.

This week sees the start of the biggest bike race in the world, but in CQ terms it is actually one of the quietest weeks of the calendar. With all eyes on the Tour, the rest of the calendar mostly clears out, with two 1.1 races and the first two stages of the Tour the only .1 or higher points on offer this week.

Update #22: Green Jersey switches hands and mineralJ wins a photo finish for the week

The Tour has begun! As mentioned in last week's update, though, that means that most of the rest of the calendar is cleared for the biggest event of the year, so with only the first couple of Tour stages and two 1.1 races this week, there were a lot of teams that didn't score much. Still, a few teams rose to the occasion.

(sidenote: I never really looked into the comparison of Tour stage points with 1.1 points, but it's interesting how they differ, with 80 points for a win in each, but 80-48-40-36-32 for the top 5 in 1 day races, and 80-50-35-25-15 in Tour stages. Anyway, just a tidbit I noticed)

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   mineralJ   403
    2   SafeBet   402
    3   Bicycle_Boy   383
    4   ChrisDK   370
    5   search   334

The slimmest of wins this week for mineralJ, ekeing out a victory over SafeBet by 1 point. mineralJ is powered by a great week from unique pick Ben Hermans, who got a win and a placing in the 1.1 races for 120 points total. This was in tandem with 125 points for the more popular Alaphilippe (27 teams) in the Tour's opening weekend, 85 points from the other 1.1 race winner Moscon (39 teams), and some smaller support points. SafeBet had Moscon and Alaphilippe and 145 from the other opening weekend Tour star MvdP (145 points, 9 teams), but had less support from riders scoring fewer points and so couldn't overtake mineralJ. Bicycle Boy nabs third on the week.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   mineralJ   (+9)
    2   SafeBet   (+7)
    2   Jakob747   (+7)
    4   Crevaison   (+6)
    4   ChrisDK   (+6)

mineralJ's high points total converts to a second weekly win here, moving up 9 spots. SafeBet gets second again, although sharing it this time with Jakob747. Interesting that mineralJ's lead in the number of spots moved up on the chart (9 to 7)  was greater than their team's lead in points scored (403 to 402).

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   204
    2   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    3   Boris98   168.67
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   156
    5   postmanhat   146

After many weeks at the top, Hugo Koblet's lead here finally slips. Otoxiep87 scores 14 points this week to leapfrog into first overall, cracking the 200 point barrier in the competition. Hugo drops to second and Boris98 stays in third as neither score on the week, but Jon Ezeitza scores 10 points for the week to break what was formerly a tie for 4th. Lots of action a little further down as well, as mineralJ, Bicycle Boy and Northerner score points on the week to move into 6th, 7th and 9th on the overall standings.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Total Package
    10591
    2   (-)   Object   10497
    3   (-)   Squire   10465
    4   (-)   Northerner   10302
    5   (+1)   Otoxiep87   10275
    6   (+1)   Armchair cyclist   10087
    7   (-2)   Boris98   10085
    8   (-)   Bonimenier   9925
    9   (+4)   MADRAZO   9894
    10   (+2)   tobydawq   9891

No change at the very top, although Total Package loses about 100 points on 2nd-4th places but still maintains a buffer of almost 100 over Object in second. Some movement further down, with MADRAZO and tobydawq moving into the top 10 and postmanhat and Fivezzz falling out.

This week, it's all Tour all the time! A few riders in the game might get a few points from the first stages of the Sibiu Tour this weekend or some .2 races, but the spotlight is on the biggest event of the calendar.

Update #23: The lead switches hands as Pogacar dominates

It's the second week of the Tour, with no other major races going on (although the first two stages of the Sibiu Tour are in this update as well), so the scores were fairly subdued this week. But if you've been watching the Tour, you've likely seen that it's basically Pogacar and everyone else. That's great news for the two teams that have Pogacar in this year's game despite his high price.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   18-Valve. (pithy)   253
    2   Londonpat   235
3   Blues in the bottle   230
    4   Bicycle_Boy   226
    5   Object   215

18-Valve takes top spot this week, largely thanks to the previously mentioned Pogacar and his 155 points. Throw in 80 points that Cav got for a stage win and 15 for Sagan for placing points and that was all that was needed! Londonpat gets second without Pogacar but with some well-picked stage winners in Dylan Teuns (80 points, 18 teams) and Ben O'Connor (80, 5), as well as placing points for Sagan, Yates, and even a Fabio Aru sighting (15 points for second on a stage of the Sibiu Tour). Blues in the bottle gets the final podium spot thanks to 100 points for wearing the yellow jersey for MvdP, 80 from Cav and 50 from Philipsen.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Sneekes   (+4)
    1   R_O_Shipman   (+4)
    3   Galpedal   (+3)
    3   Nakazar   (+3)
    3   Jon_Ezeitza   (+3)

Not much movement with the subdued scores, but Sneekes and R_O_Shipman share the honors (with 97 and 171 points on the week respectively, so they are not on the previous rankings!)

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   204
    2   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    3   Boris98   168.67
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   156
    5   Bicycle_Boy   150

After a big shakeup last week, the top remains the same this week, with the exception of Bicycle Boy who steps up to the top 5 after 26 points this week.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (+1)
    Object
    10712
    2   (-1)   Total Package   10696
    3   (-)   Squire   10608
    4   (+1)   Otoxiep87   10440
    5   (-1)   Northerner   10352
    6   (+1)   Boris98   10253
    7   (-1)   Armchair cyclist   10157
    8   (-)   Bonimenier   9991
    9   (+1)   tobydawq   9982
    10   (+3)   Jon_Ezeitza   9977

Despite the fairly low scores on the week, there was enough differentiation for Object to take over the top spot. Their team outscores Total Package 215-105 on the week, and that's enough to take the lead by 16 points. With Squire just over 100 points out of first as well and the whole top ten within a breath of 10000 points, things are tight at the top. This week is another week of only stage points at the Tour (and Jersey points for those with Pogacar), with the GC of Sibiu for counter-programming. Just as the actual viewing of the Tour has shifted to intrigue as to who gets the minor placings and wins stages, so goes the CQ game.

Update #24: Stage wins power Bicycle Boy's continued run

Another week of the Tour is down, and with that as the main event, this week's leaderboard involved those who scored points with high placings on stages or wearing the yellow jersey. The GC was also decided in the Sibiu Tour, so let's see how that all threw things into the mix this week.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Bicycle_Boy   490
    2   mineralJ   431
    3   rote_laterne   424
    4   Galpedal   400
    5   Nakazar   381

Fourth last week, and third the week before, Bicycle Boy continues a torrid run in the game, netting almost 500 points and first place this week. This is thanks almost entirely to five stage wins from 4 riders; Cavendish with 160 points from two more wins, Mollema with 115 from a win and 3rd place, Van Aert with 130 from a 1st and 2nd, and Politt with 80 for the win. A very nice week! mineralJ in second place has also seen some recent success, winning two weeks ago, although this week their team is led by 110 points from Giovanni Aleotti for a win in Romania, as well as 80 from Sepp Kuss and the aforementioned points from Mollema and Politt. rote_laterne picks up the final podium spot with a similar spread of riders.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Bicycle_Boy   (+10)
    2   DJ Sprtsch   (+8)
    3   rote_laterne   (+6)
    3   mineralJ   (+6)
    3   Martin   (+6)
    3   Yellow Knight   (+6)

Bicycle Boy doubles up here, and there's a similar look to the top, although DJ Sprtsch takes second on this ranking with both 1st and 2nd in Romania with Aleotti and Aru.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   216
    2   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    3   Bicycle_Boy   195
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   175
    5   Boris98   168.67

Some real scoring near the top of this ranking this week! Otoxiep87 extends their team's lead after moving into the lead two weeks ago, scoring 12 points for a high placing this week to bring their team's total to 216. Bicycle Boy's 45 points gets their team to a podium spot right behind longtime leader Hugo, whereas Jon Ezeitza moves into the top 5 after scoring 19 points for finishing in a tie for 6th place on the week. Points were also scored by the teams in 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th overall.

    9   (+3)   Galpedal   10341
    10   (-2)   Bonimenier   10207

It was a good week for most teams at the top, with 5 of the top 10 overall in the top 12 this week. Object gains 39 more points over Total Package after taking the lead last week, while Squire has an off week to fall off the podium. Lower down, we see Galpedal enter the top 10 at the expense of tobydawq.

This week sees GC points for the Tour, so there should be some big scores and some significant disparities between teams. That will mark a significant milestone in the season, but with the Olympics, Vuelta and fall races still to come, there's still quite a ways to go.

Update #24: Tour GC consolidates the lead of the top teams

Well, the Tour is over. There's still the Olympics, the summer races, the Vuelta and Worlds, so there's a lot of racing left, but this is a big marker in the season. And unlike the Giro (where the most popular rider in the game won), lots of the top riders in the Tour were pretty rare picks in this game. Correspondingly, scores are of a wide range this week and there is a fair amount of movement on the table. Let's dive in!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Object   1550
    2   Otoxiep87   1448
    3   Rebecops   1337
    4   BlueRoads   1304
    5   18-Valve. (pithy)   1287

You may recognize the names at the top of this list from the top of last week's overall rankings - more on that below. After top 10 placings in the last two weeks, Object continues a fantastic run, scoring 1550 points on the week. The biggest chunk of those came from a rider that cost 107 points and was chosen by 9 teams. Former fish-icer Jonas Vingegaard continues his jaw-dropping season with second on the Tour, and with stage placings etc this week that translates to a huge 621 points on the week. Beyond that, Object sees a quietly excellent top 10 from Alexey Lutsenko, whose 230 points this week continue a good run of form that must be satisfying for his 31 owners after his early season struggles. And perhaps the best investment for the 19 teams that decided to take a chance yet again, Mark Cavendish gets another 135 points for 808 on the season. Object had several other riders score <100 points on the week but those are the big ones. Otoxiep87 had only one rider score more than 100 this week, but it was Tadej Pogacar and he scored 946, which would be good enough for 22nd on this week's ranking even if the 32 other riders scored zero. Otoxiep87 also had a handful of riders score between 50-100 points including Alaphilippe, Laporte, Mollema and Sep Vanmarcke who slid under the radar with 2nd place in an Italian 2.1 race. Rebecops rounds out the podium this week with main points from Vingegaard and Lutsenko, as well as 169 points from David Gaudu.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Rebecops   (+15)
    2   AlyKaptan   (+13)
    3   18-Valve. (pithy)   (+12)
    4   Tigerion   (+11)
    5   del1962   (+10)
    5   Koronin   (+10)
    5   ChrisDK   (+10)

As the top 2 in the Top Scorers ranking were already 1st and 3rd overall going into the week, there was nowhere for them to move, so they're off this ranking, and so Rebecops moves to the top of this one, moving up 15 places. AlyKaptan (another Vingegaard owner) and 18-Valve.(pithy) (the other Pogacar owner) round out the podium here.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    3   Bicycle_Boy   195
    4   Object   180
    5   Jon_Ezeitza   175

Otoxiep87 squeaked into the lead of this competition in week 22, but with 12 points last week and another 35 this week, their team is starting to run away with it. They are now more than a weekly win (45 points) ahead of anyone else. Object's weekly win (and third week in a row scoring points) vaults them into the top 5, and there is some scoring in 7th and 10th a bit further down.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Object
    12633
    2   (+1)   Otoxiep87   12241
    3   (-1)   Total Package   11995
    4   (-)   Squire   11875
    5   (+4)   Galpedal   11542
    6   (+6)   Nakazar   11300
    7   (-)   Boris98   11282
    8   (+8)   tobydawq   11281
    9   (-4)   Northerner   11221
    10   (+1)   MADRAZO   11144

As you might expect, the top teams overall topping the weekly rankings creates some stratification at the top. Object now has a healthy 392 point lead over Otoxiep87, who in turn has 246 points over third place. Of course there's a lot of racing left, but the fact that only 4 other teams are within 1000 of Object bodes well for their team's overall chances. Despite the high scores on the week there's not much movement at the very top, but lower down in the top 10 we see some jumbling around. Nakazar, tobydawq and MADRAZO enter the top 10 this week, while Armchair Cyclist, Jon Ezeitza and Bonimenier fall out.

Okay! So the biggest race of the year is done, and coming right up is the biggest one-day race in 4 (errr, 5) years, the Olympic Games road race! Also happening this week is the Tour de Wallonie.

Update #26: Wout Else is New

CQ's update was very late this week but ended up including the Olympic Time Trial as well as the road race, leading to the odd situation where it's dated July 25th but includes a result from July 28th. Anyway, nobody had Carapaz in the game, so as has been the case on so many weeks in the last couple of years, the teams that had Wout Van Aert were the happiest of the week.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   triley36   827
    2   EvansIsTheBest   796
    3   R_O_Shipman   722
    4   del1962   713
    5   trackstand   702

It's a very good week for triley36, with 322 points from Van Aert (5 teams) leading the way. Support was found outside the Olympics too, with Quinn Simmons (22 teams) winning a 2.1 race for 194 points and Quinten Hermans picking up 62 (11 teams); Gaudu (128 points, 19 teams) contributed back in Tokyo as well. EvansIsTheBest comes very close and has a fine week even without WvA on their team, with leading scorers being Simmons, Mollema (a sneaky 180 points for 4th in the road race), McNulty (155, 9 teams) and Gaudu. R.O. Shipman nabs third with a different lineup headlined by Mollema but also with Uran (170 points, 8 teams) and Tom Dumoulin (160 points, 4 teams), being one of the teams who stuck with Tom through his early-season uncertainty.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   trackstand   (+14)
    2   del1962   (+11)
    3   R_O_Shipman   (+9)
    3   EvansIsTheBest   (+9)
    5   BlueRoads   (+7)
    5   NorthAmericanScum   (+7)
    5   SafeBet   (+7)
    5   Armchair cyclist   (+7)

Those just off the podium on the previous ranking are on top here. trackstand has the Gaudu/Mollema/Simmons trio, while del1962 has Mollema, Uran, and Rohan Dennis (130 points, 5 teams). R.O. Shipman and EvansIsTheBest are repeat podiums, tying for third here.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   213
    3   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    4   Object   180
    5   Jon_Ezeitza   175

Bicycle Boy gets 18 points this week to leapfrog Hugo Koblet in the overall standings of the classification, while nobody else in the top 5 scores this week. Bicycle Boy is currently the only team within a week's worth of points (maximum 45 points) of leader Otoxiep87.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   Object   13066
    2   (-)   Otoxiep87   12774
    3   (-)   Total Package   12357
    4   (-)   Squire   12354
    5   (-)   Galpedal   12046
    6   (-)   Nakazar   11998
    7   (+2)   Northerner   11602
    8   (+5)   rote_laterne   11570
    9   (+7)   Armchair cyclist   11539
    10   (+2)   JPettersen   11528

Otoxiep87 gains 100 points on Object this week, but the lead is still substantial, and it is still a long way back to third (only 4 teams are within 1000 points of the lead). Lower down there is more movement - rote laterne, Armchair Cyclist and JPettersen move into the top 10 while tobydawq, MADRAZO and Boris98 fall out.

This week the main event is (uh, was) the Clasica San Sebastian, while the Tour l'Ain went on and there were a few other 1.1 races. After this, we will be picking up speed towards the Vuelta and end of season races.

Update #27: San Sebastian gets a Strong Neilson Rating

It was a short CQ week as the last update went through Tuesday (Wednesday in Japan) to include the Olympics Time Trial, so there weren't too many scoring races. Clasica San Sebastian headlined the points, and so naturally our leaders had relatively subdued scores, and the bulk of the scoring came from the World Tour race.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   BlueRoads   391
    2   Jakob747   380
    3   JPettersen   357
    4   Koronin   328
    5   Vipps   325

BlueRoads pulls out the win this week as one of the only two teams in the game with surprising CSS victor Neilson Powless. His 220 points would be enough for a top 30 finish on the week even without any other scorers, but BlueRoads supplements with a few other riders scoring, most notably Vingeagaard (58 points) continuing to deliver for his 9 teams, and Mollema (46) keeping on going in his consistent-scoring ways. Jakob747 finishes 11 points back by spreading out the points a bit more, leading the way is 110 from Covi (2 teams), but also 76 from Alaphilippe, 52 from Moscon, 45 from Champoussin, and Vingegaard points too. JPettersen is a bit further back for third, spreading it out even further with many of the above-mentioned riders but a high scorer of Harm Vanhoucke (83 points, 4 teams).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   BlueRoads   (+10)
    2   karaev   (+7)
    3   Jakob747   (+6)
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   (+5)
    4   mineralJ   (+5)
    4   Koronin   (+5)

BlueRoads doubles up! Jakob747 double podiums as well, the newcomer here being karaev, who has many of the riders named in the last section, plus interesting riders who were previously unmentioned such as Andrea Bagioli (66 points, 11 teams) and Maxim Van Gils (35 points, 2 teams).

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   213
    3   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   183
    5   Object   180

Not much change here, as Jon Ezeitza edges into the top 5 with 8 points on the week and no one else in the top 5 scoring.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Object
    13277
    2   (-)   Otoxiep87   13032
    3   (-)   Total Package   12527
    4   (-)   Squire   12521
    5   (-)   Galpedal   12298
    6   (-)   Nakazar   12234
    7   (+3)   JPettersen   11885
    8   (-1)   Northerner   11849
    9   (-1)   rote_laterne   11781
    10   (-1)   Armchair cyclist   11761

JPettersen's 3rd place on the week enables their team to make a move up the rankings in the top 10, but not much movement otherwise. Otoxiep87 gains 47 points on Object to close the gap a little bit more, but 3rd and 4th both lose ground relative to the top 2 so they are still in a class of their own. No entries or exits of the top 10 this week.

There is a fair amount of racing this week, with the Arctic Tour, Portugal and Burgos happening simultaneously. As it's Friday already, we'll be back for the next update before too long!

Update #28: Object extends the lead again

This past week saw races in Burgos and Norway, with most of the popular expensive riders in the game taking the week off. As such, the leaders on the week were those with the best combo of relatively rare riders. Not a high scoring week overall, but still enough difference amongst the top teams overall to bring out some gaps.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   vladimir   428
    2   Eyeballs Out   412
    3   Lortnoc   388
    4   Rakim   377
    5   R_O_Shipman   365

Vladimir has the magic combo this week, coming out on top by 16 points. Their team's highest scorer was Romain Bardet with 106 points for his 47 owners, but oh it could have been so much more. Mark Padun (10 teams) picked up 92 points, and Pavel Sivakov (31 teams) got 78. Vladimir rounds this out with a few riders scoring in the 30-50 range. Eyeballs Out gets the runner up spot with some points from rare riders in Norway - Odd Christian Eiking (130 points, 3 teams) and Samuele Battistella (83 points, 2 teams) add to Bardet and Sivakov points. Lortnoc rounds out the podium with Bardet, Sivakov and 110 points from Fabio Aru (14 teams), who manages his best GC finish in years at Burgos.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   shalgo   (+7)
    2   vladimir   (+6)
    3   ray10   (+5)
    4   R_O_Shipman   (+4)
    4   del1962   (+4)
    4   Gigs_98   (+4)

By this point of the season, there's not much movement in weeks like this, and shalgo nabs the spot as highest mover by moving up 7 spots in the overall with the Bardet/Sivakov/Aru combo. Vladimir doesn't quite manage the double win, but is up there in second, while ray10 rounds out the podium.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   213
    3   Hugo Koblet   198.67
    4   Jon_Ezeitza   183
    5   Object   180

No scoring in the top 5 this week and so no change in order; Otoxiep87 still leads. The highest overall placement scoring is del1962 in 10th, although I do want to give a shoutout to del's team for their consistency, as this is the 4th week in a row they've scored points for being in the top 15 of the week, and the 7th out of the last 10 weeks there.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points

    4   (-1)   Total Package   12663
    5   (+1)   Nakazar   12419
    6   (-1)   Galpedal   12407
    7   (-)   JPettersen   12087
    8   (-)   Northerner   12086
    9   (-)   rote_laterne   12032
    10   (+3)   mineralJ   11897

The last few weeks had seen little change at the top but Otoxiep87 was chipping away at Object's lead; that was all reversed this week as Object scores 298 points to Otoxiep87's 38 points. Object also gains at least 100 points on everyone else in the top 6. The only change in and out of the top 10 is that mineralJ comes in at the expense of Armchair Cyclist.

This week we are back to the WorldTour with Poland (albeit not with a top-tier WT lineup), and the return of the Tour of Denmark. And of course, the first two stages of the Vuelta will be on this update! Last grand tour of the year is coming.

Update #29: R_O_Shipman wins the battle and Object takes a big step towards winning the war

With some fairly rare riders scoring big in Poland and Denmark and a few other small races, as well as the start of the Vuelta (looks like stage 3 was included in this update), there was a wide range of points scored by top teams this week. As well, the overall solidified a little bit. Let's take a look.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   R_O_Shipman   837
    2   Amis_Velo   812
    3   Gigs_98   600
    4   del1962   595
    5   Object   588

The week is owned by two teams, R_O_Shipman and Amis Velo, the only teams to score over 800 points - or 700, or 600 for that matter. R_O_Shipman takes it by 25 points though. Of course, their team was one of the the thankful 39 that saw Remco Evenepoel claw back some of his cost with an on-brand dominant win in Denmark. But his 216 points from that were not actually the highest on the squad - 237 points from Matej Mohoric (5 teams) from Poland for 2nd overall, high stage placings, and the high placing in the points competition that goes with it, contribute to that score. Shipman also had 95 points from Tim Wellens (18 teams), 88 from Rein Taaramae (7 teams) and 77 from Dylan Teuns (18 teams). Amis Velo had the same top 2, but was ever more top heavy with 182 points from Kwiatkowski (2 teams) and no one else over 40. Gigs_98 comes in a distant third with Remco, Mike Teunissen (97 points, 34 teams) and Wellens/Teuns.

Amis Velo wins this one though, moving up 17 spots compared to 10 from R_O_Shipman and the still-on-a-great-run del1962 (I pointed out last update that their team had finished in the top 15 of 7 of the last 10 weeks - make that 8 of 11).

    5   Jon_Ezeitza   183

The only scorer in the top 5 was Object, who moves into 3rd overall with 22 points this week. del's aforementioned hot streak has got their team to 6th place, 4 points out of 5th.

    9   (+10)   del1962   12220
    10   (-1)   rote_laterne   12210

I maybe buried the lede here... maybe the most consequential story of the week is that after a few weeks of losing ground that turned around last week, Object trounced the competition to move almost 1000 points in front! 588 points on the week is quite a bit more than almost anyone in the top 10 (del1962 scored 595, but Otoxiep87 had 134 and Squire 307). Minimal movement in the top 10 other than del, who gets a fourth mention of the update here for leaping 10 spots into the top 10, at the expense of mineralJ, who falls out.

This week, the Vuelta keeps rolling, and along with some 1.1 races we have stage races of all stripes - the 2.PS Tour of Norway, the 2.1 Tour du Limousin, a couple of 2.2 races in eastern Europe, and the 2.NC Tour l'Avenir! Two things are sure: you probably will score some points, and you probably won't catch Object.

Update #30: Nothing undercover about Sneekes' week

Another late summer week of racing sees some stage points at the Vuelta, the Tour of Norway, Avenir for the youngsters, and a few other races. Not much changed at the top of the rankings, but there's still lots of racing coming up.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Sneekes   495
    2   Nevs   479
    3   merengues   415
    4   Nyssinator   408
    5   Fivezzz   406

Sneekes takes the cake this week, nearly getting 500 points thanks to a few riders, most notably the return to form of Fabio Jakobsen, who scored 180 points on the week to get almost back to his CQ score of 2020. Only 3 teams took the chance on Jakobsen in a sporting capacity for this game, and they will be feeling extra good vibes this week, although I'm sure many of us who don't have him on our teams were also smiling this week to see his long road to recovery reach a high point. Another rider that has been less dramatically, but frequently, injured over the last two years is Mike Teunissen, but he is finally back to form in the last two weeks, getting another 117 points for his 34 owners. Sneekes also gets 80 points from Alberto Dainese (19 teams), who is showing some consistency and improvement late into his sophomore year. Nevs gets second place on the week, thanks largely to 227 points from Ethan Hayter (9 teams), reaching a second peak of the year after his stage race win in the spring. Dainese and Hodeg (also 80 points) are other highlights for Nevs. merengues rounds out the podium with the same main trio as Nevs but a bit less support.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Sneekes   (+9)
    2   Amis_Velo   (+6)
    2   Fivezzz   (+6)
    2   BlueRoads   (+6)
    5   adamski101   (+5)
    5   Bonimenier   (+5)
    5   Hugo Koblet   (+5)

No team jumps double digits this week, but Sneekes doubles up on top of the rankings by moving up 9 spots. The rest of the podium is a three-way tie between Amis Velo, Fivezzz and BlueRoads, all of which own one of Jakobsen/Hayter, this week's must-haves.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   213
    3   Hugo Koblet   212.67
    4   Object   202
    5   Jon_Ezeitza   183

There is some scoring in the top 5 this week - Hugo Koblet gets 14 points on the week to move back up to 3rd, his first green jersey points since week 16. It's been a bit of a dry spell for the game founder since being on top (both overall and in this competition) earlier in the season, but perhaps this is a harbinger of an end-of-season resurgence.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points

    4   (-)   Nakazar   12974
    5   (+1)   Galpedal   12956
    6   (-1)   Total Package   12925
    7   (-)   JPettersen   12548
    8   (-)   Northerner   12453
    9   (+2)   MADRAZO   12389
    10   (-1)   del1962   12355

Not much change this week - after the big gains of last week, Object gains a mere 2 points on Otoxiep87 this week, although Squire gains a little over 100 on both of them to narrow that gap a bit. MADRAZO jumps into the top 10 at the expense of rote laterne, who falls out.

This week, the second week of the Vuelta is rolling along, there's the return of the Deutschland Tour, the 2.1 Poitou Charentes, and two one-day races in Belgium including the Brussels Classic.

Update #31: repre has a grand week

I almost always forget how stacked the late summer calendar can be. This week was 'just' the second of three weeks of the Vuelta and so only offered stage points, but it was supplemented by a 1.1 and 1.PS race in Belgium, a 2.1 and 1.WT2 race in France, a 2.PS race in Germany, and even a few .2 races. As such, we have a weekly winner clearing a grand for the week!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   repre   1033
    2   vladimir   895
    3   PremierAndrew   886
    4   armchairclimber   883
    5   merengues   881

This week's winner must be feeling a bit of a repre-ve after an up and down season for their team, and this week they are certainly repre-senting in the standings! (sorry, those puns are repre-hensible, no more I swear!) repre is one of the four teams who are grateful this week that they picked Benoit Cosnefroy, who nabbed 220 points for an impressive win in the Bretagne Classic. Also notable for their team is the decidedly more popular Nils Politt (65 teams, 183 points) and the slightly more popular Alexander Kristoff (13 teams, 142 points) hitting triple digits, and help from Hirschi, Bardet, Trentin and HIrschi clearing 50. Add it all up and it's over 1000. vladimir doesn't clear that bar, but should be happy with second and 895 points, with a similar top end (replacing Cosnefroy's 220 points with Evenepoel's 210, and a little less support lower down). PremierAndrew gets the final podium spot close behind at 886 thanks to Evenepoel, Politt and 140 from Alaphilippe at the top end.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   repre   (+9)
    2   Hugo Koblet   (+7)
    2   merengues   (+7)
    2   vladimir   (+7)
    2   PremierAndrew   (+7)

repre doubles up here, with a logjam at second, with the same two podium finishers from the other ranking being joined by game founder Hugo Koblet and merengues.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   213
    3   Hugo Koblet   212.67
    4   Object   211
    5   Jon_Ezeitza   197

The top 5 order stays the same, and none of the top 3 score this week, but Object gets 9 points and Jon Ezeitza gets 14 points to narrow the gap slightly to the upper echelons. Otoxiep87 maintains a pretty healthy lead.

    Top 10 Overall

    5   (+1)   Total Package   13492
    6   (-1)   Galpedal   13377
    7   (-)   JPettersen   13327
    8   (-)   Northerner   13043
    9   (+2)   laarsland   12984
    10   (+6)   Jon_Ezeitza   12973

Don't let the lack of movement fool you. Object increases their team's lead by 252 points over Otoxiep87 this week, and now leads by a commanding 1200+ points. With that kind of lead and owning an on-fire Evenepoel, at this point it is hard to see that changing before the end of the year. Squire holds steady in the third spot on the podium, while further down, laarsland and Jon Ezeitza move into the top 10 at the expense of MADRAZO and del1962.

This week, we get Vuelta GC points as well as the final stages, and of course the counterprogramming of the WT Benelux Tour, as we move into the final phase of the season.

Update #32: Sonny days are here as Vuelta ends and the endgame starts

With the end of the third grand tour of the year, we know there are only a few big races left in the season (Worlds, Lombardia, and just to remind us that we aren't back to a familiar schedule yet, Paris-Roubaix), and so the CQ game is starting to wrap up. Object's lead was large enough last week that it looked unassailable, but things should be even more clear now with Vuelta GC points off the table.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Nevs   1711
    2   Total Package   1609
    3   Northerner   1543
    4   Tigerion   1426
    5   Josedin   1408

Nevs had an absolute monster of a week, with tons of GC points from the Vuelta and a decent supplement from the Benelux Tour. Headlining for Nevs is 306 points from Adam Yates (13 teams) for his solid Vuelta punctuated by the huge move on the last road stage leaping him up a few spots. Gino Mader keeps paying off for the six teams that own him, and Nevs is one of them, nabbing his 250 points. On top of that, Nevs got help from the ubiquitous Bernal (246 points), 212 from Sepp Kuss (12 teams), and some Benelux points from Tim Wellens (119, 18 teams) and Jasper Stuyven (104, 4 teams).

Total Package has a great week as well to nab second place, with Yates/Bernal/Mader as well, but the headliner is the winner of the Benelux Tour, Sonny Colbrelli, with 331 points for the 18 teams that have him. 115 points from the very popular-but-mostly-invisible Kruijswijk.  Northerner nails down the final podium spot, clearing 1500 points with Colbrelli/Yates/Bernal/Wellens highlighting.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Nevs   (+19)
    2   Josedin   (+12)
    3   Koronin   (+11)
    3   Tigerion   (+11)
    5   ray10   (+10)

Nevs is a big winner here again, jumping about the most amount of spots you'll see for this late in the season. Josedin gets a podium spot this time, jumping 12 spots (led by 352 points as one of 4 teams with Jack Haig, and 140 from unique pick Grosschartner), and Koronin (getting a massive 437 points from unique pick Enric Mas) and Tigerion share third.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Object   216
    3   Bicycle_Boy   213
    4   Hugo Koblet   212.67
    5   Jon_Ezeitza   199

Despite the big week there's not much movement at the top, with Object scoring 5 points on the week (tied for 13th) and Jon Ezeitza scoring 2 for 15th place, both pulling slightly closer to the top. But Otoxiep87 still has a very comfortable 35 point lead, meaning Object would have to get at least 2nd place on a weekly ranking to catch up, and only places 2-4 are within a weekly win's worth of points (45) of the lead.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Object
    16364
    2   (+3)   Total Package   15101
    3   (-)   Squire   14989
    4   (-)   Nakazar   14780
    5   (-3)   Otoxiep87   14724
    6   (+2)   Northerner   14586
    7   (-)   JPettersen   14473
    8   (+1)   laarsland   14235
    9   (+5)   Boris98   14182
    10   (-)   Jon_Ezeitza   14150

Things are pretty solidified at the top, with Object scoring a solid 1183 points on the week to keep a virtually unassailable 1200 point lead. Total Package is the big winner, getting over 1600 points for 2nd on the week and leaping up to 2nd overall. Meanwhile, Otoxiep87 has the lowest weekly score of the top 10, scoring 756 on the week and falling out of the 2nd place their team has occupied for quite some time. Boris98 moves back into the top 10 at the expense of Galpedal.

This week, the Tour of Britain is going on, while the European championships will get some attention as well. From a CQ perspective, the 100 points one gets for winning the Euros are actually less than the winner of the 1.PS GP Fourmies that is also happening this weekend, and only 20 points more than the 1.1 Antwerp Port Classic.

Update #33: Jon Ezeitza has another good week as Green Jersey tightens up

A smattering of 1-day races colored the week, and the highest-prestige race in the Euros didn't actually give a ton of points. So this week was always going to be a bit lower than last week's Vuelta GC points. Let's see how it shook out!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Jon_Ezeitza   564
    2   Bicycle_Boy   549
    3   armchairclimber   545
    4   merengues   513
    5   Nicosix   502

Jon Ezeitza's team gets their second win of the year, 30 weeks after the first! Despite having Alaphilippe (120 points, third in Tour of Britain) and Colbrelli (100 points, Euro champ), Jon Ezeitza's top scorer this week was Elia Viviani, who got 130 points for his biggest win of the year in a French 1.PS race that you likely didn't see. Those three plus Evenepoel (85 points, in profit for the year for all his 39 worried owners) drove the week, with Hodeg and Trentin adding 40 more points each. Bicycle Boy comes close to a second weekly win of the year as well (winner of week 24), with a different strategy - this is the top-heavy team that has been mentioned in prior updates with WvA (235 points), MvdP (80 points), and JA (okay Alaphilippe doesn't have a pithy acronym, but his 120 points certainly helped). armchairclimber claims the last podium spot with Ethan Hayter (191 points) as the top scorer, buffered by Alapilippe and Evenepoel and 66 by Gaviria.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Crevaison   (+8)
    1   mineralJ   (+8)
    3   Bicycle_Boy   (+6)
    4   Nicosix   (+5)
    4   merengues   (+5)
    4   comodoro   (+5)

Crevaison and mineralJ both move up 8 spots in the rankings this week, with Alaphilippe and Gaviria common riders scoring between them (Crevaison had help from Remco and Colbrelli, while mineralJ had Viviani). Bicycle Boy doubles up on the podium here.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   248
    3   Jon_Ezeitza   244
    4   Object   216
    5   Hugo Koblet   212.67

Well, things have gotten interesting here! Bicycle Boy gets 35 points for 2nd place on the week to pull within a mere 3 points of Otoxiep87's previously large lead, and Jon Ezeitza scores 45 for first and is only 8 out of first place. With a month to go in the season, this competition is far from over.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Object

    5   (+1)   Northerner   14887
    6   (-2)   Nakazar   14844
    7   (-)   JPettersen   14726
    8   (+2)   Jon_Ezeitza   14714
    9   (+2)   Galpedal   14532
    10   (-2)   laarsland   14390

Object drops 113 points to Total Package, but can afford it - there aren't enough weeks left in the season for gains like that to add up to overturning first place. A few small movements further down, weekly winner Jon Ezeitza moves up to 8th, Galpedal gets back in the top 10, while Boris98 slides right back out.

This week, I am reminded how wild the late season can be. First, we have the Tour of Luxembourg, and there is a total of eleven one-day races this week - 5 in Belgium (two 1.PS, two 1.1, and the WCTT), 4 in Italy, one in France and the very rescheduled Eschborn-Frankfurt. Should be a bevy of points on offer, good luck keeping track!

Update #34: The Contenders Make a Final Push

It was a very busy week, with 1-day races aplenty and the kick off of the Worlds. It is also one week closer to the end of the season, and so for a lot of teams it was now or never.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Squire   1495
    2   Total Package   1260
    3   zaka_fan   1233
    4   Nyssinator   1162
    5   tobydawq   1157

Indeed it was a wild week in the game, with Squire cleanly taking care of the competition with almost 1500 points, a truly "GC week of a grand tour" level of points. The biggest contribution was from Michael Valgren coming alive this week, scoring 210 points after getting less than that for the whole rest of the season for his 18 teams. But that was hardly it for Squire, who had 184 from Christophe Laporte, 158 from the gift that keeps on giving ie Sonny Colbrelli, 151 from Sagan (which I didn't even realize he scored until right now, too many races this week!), 116 from Trentin, and over 50 from Kristoff, Gaudu, Moscon and Latour. Phew! Total Package lands in second with a none-too-shabby 1260 points with the exact same >100 point scorers as Squire but less support. zaka_fan lands in third with a similar group sans Valgren and Colbrelli, but with 166 from a finally-coming-into-form Marc Hirschi. A big week overall, with 17 teams scoring over 1000 points.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Nyssinator   (+13)
    2   postmanhat   (+11)
    3   Salvarani   (+9)
    4   Nicosix   (+8)
    4   Wallenquist   (+8)

A different list here (the top 2 of the leaders of the prior ranking are quite high overall already), with Nyssinator moving the most at 13 places. postmanhat is the only other team to leap double digits, while Salvarani moves up 9 spots for third on this ranking.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Otoxiep87   251
    2   Bicycle_Boy   248
    3   Jon_Ezeitza   244
    4   Object   216
    5   Hugo Koblet   212.67

After tightening up significantly at the top last week, none of the top 5 score this week. Total Package moves into 6th just out of this ranking with 35 points on the week, but at 187 overall is still a significant way from the top.

I implied last week that Object looked to have an insurmountable lead, and with 889 points (29th on the week), their team did a decent job of defendnig that lead. But the problem for Object is that #1 and 2 on the week were their team's closest competitors in Squire and Total Package. Squire gained 606 points on Object this week, while Total Package gained 351. Still, Object has a 750 point lead, so Squire would have to have a similarly successful week and then keep gaining in the few remaining weeks in the season to overturn that lead. The Worlds gives 400 CQ points to the winner, the biggest remaining race on the calendar, so the likelihood of such an upheaval will become clearer after this weekend.

Lower down on the rankings, things are solidifying. Team skidmark makes a reentry into the top 10 after several months away from it, and tobydawq moves back in with Boris98 as well, at the expense of Nakazar, Galpedal and laarsland.

This week is quieter in volume than last week, with a 1.PS, two 1.1 races, and a 1.WC, but that last one is definitely the main event.

Update #35: Endgame takes shape as Object's lead halves and Green Jersey flips

The Worlds are in the bag, and things are coming down to the wire in CQ land. There are two WT races left on the calendar but they are both monuments in the rescheduled Paris-Roubaix and the regularly scheduled Lombardia in the next two weekends. It's natural that followers of the CQ Manager game will turn to the overall standings, and indeed things look more interesting there than they did a couple of weeks ago. But of course there is a weekly competition and so the winners there deserve their moment in the sun as well!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Vipps   966
    2   search   931
    3   Galpedal   928
    4   Northerner   909
    5   MuddyWaters   861

Vipps takes a big win this week with almost 1000 points - naturally, they were one of the 27 teams that got the full 400 points for having the successfully defending world champ Julian Alaphilippe. And their team is also one of the 18 that will be very relieved in the past few weeks to have Michael Valgren, who nabs 210 for third place in the Worlds. The more ubiquitous Pidcock (144 points, 76 teams) is the only other scorer on the team that clears 100 points, but the 78 points from Jordi Meeus (8 teams) from non-Worlds related activity is what really puts Vipps over the top this week. Search and Galpedal round out the podium, with the same big 3 highlighting the points this week, although notably Galpedal was one of the 5 teams that picked WvA and would have been surely expecting more than the 64 points he delivered. Don't worry, Roubaix is still coming.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   MuddyWaters   (+12)
    1   Lortnoc   (+12)
    3   Armchair cyclist   (+9)
    3   Vipps   (+9)
    5   Jakob747   (+8)
    5   Bicycle_Boy   (+8)

A different podium here, with Muddy Waters and Lortnoc splitting the top spot as the only double-digit risers this week. Both had Alaphilippe and Pidcock, with the next highest scorer being Stybar (138 points, 3 teams) for Muddy Waters and Dainese (72 points, 19 teams) for Lortnoc. Vipps manages the double podium, sharing third with Armchair Cyclist.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Bicycle_Boy   266
    2   Otoxiep87   265
    3   Jon_Ezeitza   244
    4   Hugo Koblet   224.67
    5   Object   216

Bicycle Boy edges into the lead in this competition by the slimmest of margins - their team got 18 points for 7th on the week to close the gap. Otoxiep87 got 14 points for 9th on the week, but was only ahead by 3 points going into the week and so is now behind by 1. Hugo Koblet also got 12 points for 10th on the week and is one of 4 teams within 45 points of the lead with only a few weeks left to go.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Object
    17806
    2   (-)   Squire   17472
    3   (-)   Total Package   17261
    4   (+1)   Northerner   16671
    5   (-1)   Otoxiep87   16560
    6   (+1)   Jon_Ezeitza   16278
    7   (+6)   Galpedal   16066
    8   (-2)   JPettersen   16010
    9   (+1)   Boris98   15797
    10   (-2)   skidmark   15780

No movement in the top 3 spots, but Object's lead has dwindled to a comfortable-but-not-invincible 336 points. Squire outscored Object by 416 points this week, so 336 points is by no means insurmountable. Total Package gained 234 points on Object as well, and is 545 back in third. A strong showing in the remaining monuments and one-day races could see this turn out any way, even though the top 3 are separated by hundreds. Further down, Galpedal goes back into the top 10, while tobydawq falls back out.

This upcoming week has some interesting end-of-season races that may give a chance for rare picks to score big, which often happens with a spread out calendar at the end of the season - 2.1 races in Croatia and Italy, 1.PS races in Belgium, Italy and Germany, several 1.1 races, and of course Paris-Roubaix. Very exciting!

    Hey skids.

CQ have changed how they are writing Binyam Girmay's name (for whatever reason) which has led to some of us losing his points. Well, it's only three of us actually, but hey I need those points.

    Thanks in advance. :cool

Update #36: The standings get tighter as the end draws near

What a week and what a race on Sunday! Aside from the race fan excitement of watching Roubaix finally after 2.5 years and in the rain, the CQ excitement must have been through the roof, with the 39 teams with Moscon must have had quite the roller coaster, for example, and any of the teams with the top 3, or various riders who crashed and came back on and crashed again... anyway, the 4th monument comes a week before the 5th, the new Holy Week on this rescheduled calendar. For those wondering, a brief glance at the CQ page shows that after Lombardia and Paris-Tours next week, there remain a handful of .1 races the week of the 11th-17th, and the lone 1.1 Ronde van Drenthe is scheduled for the 24th (which I'll believe when I see), so effectively the game is winding up very soon. So, let's cherish these updates while we have them!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   postmanhat   1106
    2   Crevaison   943
    3   Amis_Velo   879
    3   tobydawq   879
    5   skidmark   846

postmanhat has a gigantic week, cracking 4 digits with a score of 1106. Of course their team had Colbrelli and his massive 280 points, 182 from Remco Evenepoel (it appears CQ released the update on Monday after he had scored 130 for winning in Italy), and was also one of the 7 teams who believed in one Florian Vermeersch and was rewarded with 175 points this week. Throw in Moscon (125) and Laporte (100) and you've got 4 of the top 6 from Roubaix and Remco. Good haul! Crevaison nabs second with the above less Vermeersch, and there's a tie for third with exactly 879 points between Amis Velo and tobydawq even though both have different sources (both have Remco, Moscon and Laporte, but tobydawq has Colbrelli while Amis Velo took a less likely route with Jakobsen and Cavendish).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   postmanhat   (+8)
2   Blues in the bottle   (+7)
    3   EvansIsTheBest   (+6)
    4   Kazistuta   (+5)
    5   Lortnoc   (+4)
    5   Vipps   (+4)
    5   Jakob747   (+4)
    5   Crevaison   (+4)
    5   tom_jelte   (+4)
    5   Riverside   (+4)
    5   ray10   (+4)
    5   del1962   (+4)
    5   Gigs_98   (+4)

Yes, even with such high scores, week 36 of the season leads to some fairly modest gains and losses on the big chart, and sometimes a nine-way tie for fifth on this ranking. postmanhat doubles up here, moving up 8 spots for the 1100+ points their team scored. Blues in the bottle nabs second place with a 'Poel to Poel' team (perhaps the only team with Remco and Mathieu), and one of the two teams who decided Stevie Williams was worth a flier for 5 points and got 146 this week for a win at a race I didn't even know was happening. EvansIsTheBest nabs third.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Bicycle_Boy   266
    2   Otoxiep87   265
    3   Jon_Ezeitza   260
    4   Hugo Koblet   224.67
    5   Object   218

This is the most interesting finish I can recall in this competition - I believe there was a two-way race that went down to the final week (iirc it was Squire surrendering the lead after leading all season to Emericlabordure?), but never a three-way race this close. Last week Bicycle Boy pulled barely ahead of Otoxiep87, and this week neither score, but Jon Ezeitza scores 16 points to pull within a handful of the lead. Either the second or third teams can pull into the lead with a 13th place or higher on one of the final weeks. Hugo Koblet is mathematically within a weekly win of the lead as well, so if nobody scores, the Ronde van Drenthe goes on and Hugo is loaded with riders, he would win by 1.67 points. Anyway, this will be fun to follow the next two weeks.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)

    3   (-)   Total Package   17929
    4   (-)   Northerner   17446
    5   (+1)   Jon_Ezeitza   17084
    6   (-1)   Otoxiep87   16972
    7   (+1)   JPettersen   16808
    8   (+2)   skidmark   16626
    9   (+2)   tobydawq   16607
    10   (-3)   Galpedal   16398

The attention the last two weeks has been at the top, as Squire has made dramatic gains on Object's lead, which had been around 1200 points a few weeks ago. It is now down to 213, with Squire gaining another 121 this week. The bad news for Squire is that Object has Remco while Squire doesn't, and there are like 5 races in Italy this week. The good news for Squire is that Remco's win on October 4th is already factored into this ranking. But it's a very narrow path, with few opportunities remaining.

Further down on the rankings there is a bit of place switching, with tobydawq jumping back into the top 10 at the price of Boris98.

Update #37: Things get even tighter! But... overall standings remain the same, while Green Jersey has new leader

We are almost done! A few small races as epilogue remain, and the real question for those still following the CQ game is - who do I even have that is riding? With most riders packing it in and with  start lists not even posted 12 hours before races, the last week may be a little bit of a lottery. But as we will see, there are a few people in the overall and Green Jersey who may still be able to cash in on that lottery ticket.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   18-Valve. (pithy)   736
    2   EvansIsTheBest   734
    3   Jon_Ezeitza   706
    4   Northerner   677
    5   Nevs   663

It was a monumental week in the literal sense that there was the last Monument of the season, and it was a monumental end to the season for the 2 players in this game who took Tadej Pogacar. At a cost of 2044, he was one of the most expensive picks that has ever been picked in this game, but with a final season total of 3656, he ends up (*checks notes*) with the highest yearly CQ score that has been recorded since CQ started up as a website. So... he was a pretty good pick. And this week's winner takes the top spot by 2 points, something that would have been 278 points short without the dominant Slovenian youngster's win in Lombardia. 18-Valve.(pithy) actually benefits even more from Pogacar, as there was basically a race every day in Italy last week and Pogacar by himself ended up with 404 on the week, which would be enough for 38th on the week without any other riders. But 18-Valve also was one of the 7 who picked Matt Walls, who got the win of his short career this week and the 130 CQ points that came with it. Add in 105 points from Alaphilippe, 41 from unique pick Hofstetter, and a smattering of others, and it was just enough for the win.

EvansIsTheBest just misses out, finishing two points back with a much broader group of scoring riders - tops was 170 from David Gaudu (19 teams), 108 from Sergio Higuita (30 teams), and 9 riders between 25 and 90 points, with familiar game names such as Bardet, Girmay, and Evenepoel, and others who shone brightest this week like Olav Kooij. Speaking of names that have been mentioned alot in this game, Jon Ezeitza gets another top weekly finish, rounding out the podium with 223 from Adam Yates, and then over 100 from the aforementioned Alaphilippe, Higuita and Walls.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   18-Valve. (pithy)   (+11)

    5   triley36   (+4)
    5   bminchow   (+4)
    5   NorthAmericanScum   (+4)
    5   Nevs   (+4)
    5   Nakazar   (+4)

18-Valve doubles up, as does EITB on the podium. They're joined by Blues in the bottle, one of the five teams who benefitted from Fausto Masnada's career week and the 204 points that came with it.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jon_Ezeitza   290
    2   Otoxiep87   285
    3   Bicycle_Boy   266
    4   Hugo Koblet   224.67
    5   Object   218

Some last-minute shakeup here! Last week, Bicycle Boy was leading this by one point over Otoxiep87 and 5 overJon Ezeitza; this week it's reversed. Jon Ezeitza parlays 30 points for third into the lead of this competition, while Otoxiep87 stays in the game with 20 points for 6th on the week. With very little to go in this game, all it takes is a few good riders left on your squad to top a week, so any of these 3 could find themselves scraping out enough points to clinch the victory yet. There is a minuscule chance that someone further down could have a rare or unique rider who runs the table in the very few remaining races and takes 90 points for two weekly wins, but that is more like a literal lottery ticket chance even than my above analogy.

After leading by 1200+ after the Vuelta, Object's lead over Squire is down to 82 points, meaning if Squire has a rider that Object doesn't who wins a 1.1 race plus 5 points somewhere else, the lead will be overturned. (Incidentally, today's 1.1 race was topped by Lutsenko followed by Trentin, who they both have, so that's a wash). Squire gained 131 points this week to make it an incredible nailbiter - I am sure both teams are furiously refreshing startlist sites to see if they have anyone riding. With the season tailing off the lists often switch up last minute as riders change their minds, and we may have a repeat of whatever year it was when Jos Van Emden scored some points in an obscure post-Lombardia race to overturn the top 2 of the game.

Below that, there's no movement in the top 8 and everyone looks pretty set in their place. Still a battle for the top 10, with 9th and 10th quite close, and 11th only 70 points back. Crevaison comes back into the top 10 while Galpedal falls out.

This week there are a few 1.1 and one 1.Pro race in Italy and France, and a curveball I just realized in the British nationals! After that, well then that's pretty much it! It seems that the last .1 or higher race is the lone Ronde van Drenthe on the 24th, which would signal the end of this year's game. It's been great so far, thanks all for playing, and I look forward to see what the final table looks like!

    Update #38: It's Almost Over

This week was a bit of a denouement, with most riders packing up after the last three weekends of the Worlds, Roubaix, Lombardia. But there were a smattering of 1.1 races in Italy and France, as well as a 1.Pro as well. But of course, with most of the riders ending their season already, the impact on the game was a bit muted.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Nicosix   397
    2   Kazistuta   357
    3   zaka_fan   339
    4   Bonimenier   336
    5   karaev   332
    5   shalgo   332

A game vet takes the top spot this week, as Nicosix outscores all with just under 400 points. This is in no small part due to the best unique pick of the week, as Arne Marit (cost of 14 points) took 130 points for a surprising win over Viviani and Coquard in the 1.PS GP Morbihan, the most points on offer this week. Nicosix also had the somewhat more popular Alexey Lutsenko, who got another 121 points to add to his fine season. Add 66 for Viviani and 60 for Ethan Hayter (speaking of adding to fine seasons), plus 20 more for Latour and that's a good week. Kazistuta is 40 points back in 2nd place from Lutsenko, 101 from Trentin, Viviani and 49 from the impressive looking Alberto Dainese. zaka fan ends in 3rd thanks to some of the above plus 48 from Marc Hirschi.

    4   Salvarani   (+4)
    4   Boris98   (+4)

The moves are small at this point in the season, but ray10, greenedge and Laflorecita at least get a late season moment in the sun by moving up 5 spots each.

    4   Hugo Koblet   234.67
    5   Object   222

This competition has been a wild ride the last few weeks, but none of the top 3 overall finished in the top 15 on the week to get points. Hugo Koblet picked up 10 points to pull a bit closer in 4th, and Object scored 4 points to inch closer to everyone above but Hugo, but neither of them are within a weekly win (45 points) of the overall lead. With one week left, it looks like it's between the top 3 technically and the top 2 actually (and maybe even more actually nobody will have riders riding, so it might just stay the same).

It got oh so close, but it wasn't to be for Squire, as the startlists told a stark tale as they were released. Although both of the top 2 had weeks in the top 25 overall, most of their points were from riders they had in common - 121 from Lutsenko, 101 from Trentin, 20 from Latour. The only difference was that Object had 36 additional points from Evenepoel's somewhat underwhelming result in Chrono de Nations. Object is now 114 points up, and with 80 points on the docket for the win at Ronde van Drenthe, Squire would need a few top placings of non-shared riders to overcome the deficit. The startlist as of now shows one rider on Squire's team (Dupont) that is not on Object's, so if nothing changes, it will be mathematically impossible (barring something crazy like a sudden doping case or retroactive disqualification causing prior races and their points to shuffle).

Just on a technical point though - this game is designed to end after the last .1 or higher race in the year, with the specific wording (from the first post in this thread) reading:

**An extension will be granted to the end of season if it is very close at the top. If any teams are within 100 points of the leader after the last major race, the season will be automatically extended until the final race of the year unless all teams within 100 points explicitly concede. As well, anyone in the top 10 can extend the season by PMing me a request to do so before the last major race starts.

That means if Squire gains 14 points or more on Object in Drenthe, the results will default to being unofficial until the end of the calendar year. As well, I have usually conceptualized the 'last major race' as being .1 or higher. However, there appears to be a 2.1 race from December 1st-6th called "The Princess Maha Chakri Srindhorn's Cup Tour of Thailand" (I wonder if they call it TPMCSCTOT for short). If the lead remains above 100 points, I'm inclined to not consider this potential race in Thailand as a 'major' race and close the season after Drenthe. Feedback welcome on this technical point.

We are almost through this ride! I hope you've all had a fun season and are looking forward to next season already.

    Update #39: The End

It has been a wonderful year of racing, with things almost sorta kinda back to normal on the racing front (although not quite - see the end of this post). The curtain came down on the European season this week in somewhat muted fashion - after a flurry of 'end of season' races in previous weeks, the lone men's race of the week was the not-even-televised 1.1 Ronde Van Drenthe. Of course, as most riders had ended their seasons and only a couple of teams participating above continental level, it had very limited impact on the game. But with that, the final standings have crystallized, and we have a winner!

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   AlyKaptan   80
    1   Vipps   80
    3   Wallenquist   40
    4   Nicosix   32
    5   VeloRooms   22

Two teams had picked Rune Herregodts this year, a rider who I freely admit as a cycling fanatic that I had not heard of until yesterday. And it pays off today! AlyKaptan and Vipps share the spotlight on Rune's 80 points for the breakaway victory, enough to get a weekly win on this final week. Wallenquist was the only team to pick Groenwegen this year and so gets his 40 points for third, which is enough for third as well this week. Thirteen teams had a rider score points this week, so obviously the standings didn't move too much.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   Vipps   (+6)
    2   AlyKaptan   (+3)
    3   DJ Sprtsch   (+2)
    4   Wallenquist   (+1)
    4   postmanhat   (+1)
    4   Nicosix   (+1)
    4   VeloRooms   (+1)

However, co-winner Vipps is the solo winner here, and managed to move up 6 places on those 80 points! Quite a remarkable movement for the last week, and it moves Vipps into the top 30 overall to boot. Below, Alykaptan and DJ Sprtsch round out the podium.

Just a note on this ranking - this is the last time it will appear in an update. I've realized that with declining participation in the game, there's not as many spaces to move as there were when we had 130+ teams. So I'm retiring this ranking, although for those stat-heads I'll still keep it on the sheet in future years since it's already there.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   Jon_Ezeitza   290
    2   Otoxiep87   285
    3   Bicycle_Boy   266
    4   Hugo Koblet   234.67
    5   Object   222

Well, it was a very close and topsy-turvy race in the final weeks, but in the end nobody scored very much at the top in the last couple of weeks of the game. No points in the top 5 this week, and the only team scoring in the top 10 was postmanhat with 4 points in 6th overall. Congratulations to Jon Ezeitza, winner of the Green Jersey 2021!

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)
    Object
    19129
    2   (-)   Squire   19015
    3   (-)   Total Package   18676
    4   (-)   Northerner   18293
    5   (-)   Jon_Ezeitza   18009
    6   (-)   Otoxiep87   17643
    7   (-)   JPettersen   17586
    8   (-)   skidmark   17264
    9   (-)   Boris98   17009
    9   (+1)   postmanhat   17009

The only team in the top 10 scoring any points this week was postmanhat, getting 7 points from Taco Van Der Hoorn, which happened to be just the exact amount needed to move up one spot into a tie for 9th place overall!

Of course, that lack of movement confirms what we saw last week - Object is the winner of the CQ Ranking Manager Game 2021! It was a hard fought final stretch, and Squire almost closed an unfathomable gap. Congrats to Squire and Total Package for podium spots as well.

I'll follow up with more breakdown of the game and news for next year (still not sure when the season is starting with the Aussie races cancelled or postponed again), but for this post, let's celebrate our top teams of 2021.

Congrats to Object! I avoided the wooden spoon which is about as much as can be said about my team.

Thanks as always skids for your hard work. Cycling just wouldn't be the same without a bit of CQ.
