As I mentioned towards the end of last year, I will not be continuing with the overall year round league this time round. We had a good run with it and had some fun I hope, but it's time to simplify things.

No pressure to enter every league and you can pick fun or themed teams for a laugh. However some twitter advertisements on the official VR account would still be nice to drum up some entrants.

First up Superclasico (with SB on Saturday) and then PN starts on Sunday.

Maybe PN isn't a total bust after all. I was something like 3987/4000 after the first two stages, but things are looking a bit rosier now.

I didn't get round to making a Spring Classics team in the end, so I hope when it's over somebody can post the league to tell us who won.

Over in Catalunya, Bazil had a team which we can assume was composed of at least 1/3 fan picks, but he still managed to beat us all. Good work. :cool

Yes, it automatically creates the leagues after you have made the first one (PN in this case).

The defending champ ( :P) wasn't around to contest this edition of the Spring Classics, but don't let that take anything away from Team Poetovio/SLO.

Romandie starts tomorrow and the Giro can't be far away.

I can't say I noticed tw's team during the race. Hopefully it was just a late charge they made and they weren't late entrants to the league. Congrats anyway in a tight race.

Giro starts soon as I'm sure you all know. I can never understand why there are always so few all-rounders, but plenty of climbers.

Now that's a convincing win. Having Bernal sure helped Ben, but even all of his 4 point unclassed riders contributed.

The riders you wanted to pick from each category were:

All Rounder: Bernal and Almeida. Foss the only good cheap alternative. A really horrible category.
Climber: Caruso (picked by just 1.6% of teams) and Yates, but a fair few other riders weren't too far off.
Sprinter: Sagan or Cimolai as the cheap option
Unclassed: Ganna, Moscon and Arndt. Alternatively Ganna was the best 8-pointer, Moscon the best 6-pointer and Fortunato the best 4-pointer.

    Giro Rosa:

This race didn't go very well for a lot of us. I managed to finish 5th with two and a bit riders contributing. Giro Don did a bit better than that. Well played.

    Not the Tour:

Talking of races which didn't go well....

All those crashes dashed a lot of hopes. Rebola taking the win this time. Helped in no small part by a strong set of unclassified riders.

The riders you wanted to pick from each category were:

All Rounder: Pogacar and Vingegaard. The latter picked by just 0.8% of teams.
Climber: Carapaz and Alaphilippe, but you'd have got more bang for your buck from riders other than the Frenchman.
Sprinter: Van Aert, but Cavendish and Philipsen were great cheap alternatives.
    Unclassed: Cattaneo, Mohoric and Bonnamour.

    Catch-up #1

    Benelux:

For a one-week race, a 1000 point winning margin is huge.

    Ceratizit:

However in an even shorter race, Ghislain won with an even bigger margin and in fact he won the overall competition.

    Nice one. :cool

    Catch-up #2

    Vuelta:

From what I remember this was a four-way battle right up till the End-of-Tour points were doled out. Ben had Roglic/Yates/Mas/Haig which trumped everyone else in the battle. That's two GTs in one year for him.

The riders you wanted to pick from each category were:

    All Rounder: Roglic and Mas.
Climber: Haig and Lopez despite how it ended for him.
    Sprinter: Jakobsen.
    Unclassed: Cort, Storer and Eiking.

    Britain:

Another race were I'm pipped at the post. :(

Russell's first win of the season. He could add to that total as he leads both the Superclasico (10 races to go) and Women's Classics (two races) leagues.
