We got a Supermoon coming this weekend on sunday  night. Where it looks bigger and brighter than normal, let's hope there's a lack of cloud cover over the UK.

Now I'm no scientist - I'm more of an arts guy since you ask - but MV's post in the shoutbox that Stephen Hawking had passed reminds us that he (Hawking, not MV as far as we know) was one of those rare boffins who transcends academe.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43396008

Writer of the famous book A Brief History of Time, an accessible take on the universe which nevertheless lost an idiot like me by the second chapter, Hawking had a remarkable career.

I thought I would shoehorn in a personal anecdote here because I met him once. Well, "met" is a rather an overstatement, I suppose. Rather I bumped into his wheelchair as he was disembarking from a flight to Seoul. Hawking had flown business class while I was making my way up from the very rear of the cheap seats. I apologised for the less than planetary collision but he did not reply as he probably had his mind on other matter (sic).
