the topic came up on cn, and as it was new to me: the UCI WT "model contract" (page 226ff of the UCI road racing rules) includes the phrase

"The engagement shall be subject to the registration of the team as a UCI WorldTeam with the UCI. Should such registration not be obtained, the Rider may terminate the present contract without notice or compensation."

So it doesn't need any special clause. If a team loses WT status, all riders are free to leave.

Israel's 'investment' in Froome and Total's in Sagan looking ever more like hopeless folly then

True, Sagan isn't bringing many points to the table, but Total are in decent shape.

Not as regards this competition, which was always was going to be a extremely tall order, but in the auto-wildcard one (switch to the second picture in Raul's tweet) where they are currently second with a 1000 buffer over the third place team.

Plus they get to ride Specialized and it's they who are paying the bulk of Sagan's wages, not the team (as far as I'm aware).

BikeExchange still in the WT, but only by 0.33 points. Lotto are breathing right down their necks.

Israel and EF have had a good fortnight too.
