« on: January 24, 2022, 20:44 »
Unfortunately, time to start the tragedy count today, #ineos Egan Bernal rear-ended a bus (!) today and there are serious injuries, to be detailed later.

Could well be season over, before it starts.
Slovenians in an even stronger position if that's actually possible.

This really doesn’t sound good at all. Spinal surgery to ensure his quality of life. Oh no.

I didn't want to post this afternoon's breaking news on open chat, but there's been a dramatic incident at the finish line in Catalunya.
It appears that Sonny Colbrelli has had a cardiac incident and has been taken to hospital.
Fortunately, he remained conscious and appeared to talking. Obviously we will have to wait upon further news, as and when....

First reaction is to wish him well but it's obvious that he came back too early. When you have the flu or bronchitis, you need to be patient. Top level sport competition within a week after such an illness could lead to cardiac issue. Every top athlete should now that.

could very well be caused by not recovering 100%, yeah. Let's hope he'll be okay. The statements later on didn't sound quite as bad as in the beginning

#trek Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier sustained multiple injuries in a crash on yesterday's Montjuic descent, and is out for the coming months at least.

    https://racing.trekbikes.com/stories/trek-segafredo-men/get-well-soon-amanuel-ghebreigzabhier

There are no details of the crash given, but just before it happened, he had attacked on the final climb, and as a result was visibly knackered when shown going over the top a bit behind the leaders. I guess going this deep may have had an influence on his descending.

    http://www.tagtik.be/fr/actu/conflits/wout-van-aert-mis-en-garde-par-les-virologues.html

Marc Van Ranst is a famous virologist in Belgium whose action has been crucial during the 2-year pandemics, as a member of the Belgian "Risk Assessment Group". Some would say he was controversial too.

He also seems to care about cycling and advises Wout van Aert against racing Paris-Roubaix.

    Quote
Wout van Aert will win Paris-Roubaix but not this year.

So apparently, Michel Wuyts is still active as a commentator but for VTM and no longer for Sporza. That's the greatest news of that article. But Wuyts seems to suggest that the probability that Van Aert races Paris-Roubaix is fifty-fifty. Van Ranst reacted. "Not fifty-fifty but zero" ! He should not race.

I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but Nacer Bouhanni had a really unfortunate, not to mention serious incident yesterday.
A spectator wandered onto the course just as the peloton arrived.
The end result has seen Bouhanni flown back to France with a fractured vertebra in the lower back region. Another rider had a broken elbow, which required an operation.

Be warned, the footage ain't pretty.
