No Areruya (2017 winner) as Covid prevented him from training in January.

    ------------------------------------------

No live TV coverage of the race, but there will be highlights. Jose Been says this should be on Eurosport.

    Still fairly provisional today (18th).

    Updated now.

IPT might be the only WT team here, but it's very much IPT-lite with only one WT rider. No sprinter, but Omer and Mackellar might fancy their chances in reduced groups/breaks.

The real strength probably lies with Drone Hopper. Tesfatsion, Restrepo plus Merchan looks a very strong unit for stages and why not the overall.

Challengers to them? Geniez who showed some form in Saudi. Boileau who won a couple of stages last year. Maybe the duos at Bike Aid (Henok and Ewart) and Terengganu (Eyob and Budyak) can show the pros what CT riders can do.

(Probably the first cyclist ever from the area I grew up to race internationally. Very strange indeed as he is basically born and raised at the ski lift in one of Norway's best ski areas. Rebel youth  :D )

"We don't have the opportunities and requirements like World or ProTeams that come with roller trainers. That's why today's warm-up was difficult," explained Anton Wiersma, Sport Director of Bike Aid, explaining why the warm-up in particular didn't go well.

Niko Holler added: “With an outside temperature of 15 degrees and torrential rain, a warm-up was out of the question. The weather has gone completely crazy. So the omens were more than unfavorable for us.” Holler, like his team mates, tried to “warm up” with squats.

Bike Aid didn't want to "overrate" the first day, as Holler revealed. “We are looking forward to tomorrow's first stage. The atmosphere is good and we're hot as fry fat," he added with a nudge and a wink.

Hayter is yet another DSM (devo in this case) "refugee", but not quite in the same way that led to numerous others leaving. He (or maybe his agent) wanted guarantees that he would be in the WT team next year, they couldn't give that and thus he is now at Hagens Berman.

A strong rider anyway (LBL U23 winner) and a bit of a surprise to see him in a break this early in the race.

Hayter and Stockman were caught on the last lap.

First don't have the GC up yet, but going by the GC classification posted on the official Twitter account, there appear to be no bonuses at the finish or even at the intermediate sprints.

In one sentence, Sandy Dujardin sums up all her joy and satisfaction: “I couldn’t have hoped for better!” .

After a great breakaway for his first pro race in Valence (1.2) and another encouraging performance during the Grand Prix de Marseille-La Marseillaise (1.1) at the end of January, he went to the Tour of Rwanda (2.1) with the desire to get a big result and did not miss the target.

He is now ready to spend his end of the day answering the countless messages of congratulations following this victory. “Fortunately there is good WiFi at the hotel, but I think I've already smoked the whole telephone plan” he laughs to conclude.

That's the break. Sone names - Dujardin, S Mugisha, Rolland, Ezquerra, Goeman, Niyonkuru and O Goldstein (who was suffering yesterday from stomach issues).

Gap around two minutes. There was a report that Restrepo was struggling.

    10km to go.

The front three are Rolland, Goldstein and Stokbro I think.

    Gonna be a nailbiter. :o

The groups merge. A couple of quick men in there.

However the peloton are getting closer.

They got caught and a late attack won it.

No sign of Restrepo, so we have a new leader.

A couple of quick men in there.

Even after being in the break, Stokbro took 10th on the stage. Probably would have won if they had managed to hang on.
