New pro-team in 2023 under the aegis of Cancellara. Built on the foundations of the Swiss Racing Academy which will itself drop down to elite level. Some of it's riders will no doubt make the jump to the new team, but it won't be just Swiss riders.

BMC bikes. 22-24 riders. Wildcards for Suisse and Romandie in 2023 are hoped for.

    Interesting.
Also interesting that this is another watchmaker within a few years (after TAG Heuer and whoever makes Alaphilippe's watches Richard Mille) going into cycling. Before that, the only one I remember was Festina ... :shh

If they don't get these wildcards, what is even the point of being a Swiss ProTeam? ;)

apparently there was this in the 80's:

ironically it's also the brand Cancellara used to wear off the bike. I guess he meanwhile lost his role as "brand ambassador" ;)

There can't be many teams that have moved up a level, dropped down and then moved back up again.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an English version of the "magasin", so we'll have to wait for Fus to tell us the gist of it and how things will be different to the earlier PCT team.

One of the biggest problems was and will be continue to be Uno-X (the main team has 8 Danish riders and the devo squad has 5). There is also the annual talk of Beat moving up to PCT, so that too could provide competition for Dutch signings.

    In other recent news...

    https://twitter.com/inrng/status/1542643468887105536

We'll see what happens, but even with a WT budget it's going to be difficult to attract riders. Who could they get? Barbier Snr? Touze? Sarreau? Tesson? or looking further afield maybe some of the Belgians at Bingoal or Sport Vlaanderen? How about Cavendish?

    Also...

    https://twitter.com/IntermarcheWG/status/1543928288627793920

The rumoured Hagens Berman link-up obviously came to naught. Yet another WT devo team though. It's going to be an extremely competitive business getting the riders for these teams. Not going to be easy to be a regular CT devo team going forward.

The next logical step is more junior WT affiliated teams. AG2R have one, as do Bora. Anybody else?

It looks to be Carrefour. So that'll be 4 French WT teams and two PCT outfits with big budgets. The French margarine will have to be spread very thinly on the toast.

This will obviously have knock-on effects for the wildcards in the Tour going forward and in the yearly auto-wildcard competition.

    Budget: 15-20 million

    Different bike manufacturer

Targeted riders: Cavendish, Teuns, Matthews, Vuillermoz

Can't see the middle two joining, but why not the other two.

Still no real news about the above post. There was something about Paris (the city) linking up with the team, but nothing about the major sponsor. All just smoke and mirrors?

Should be fun to see how they get on. I'd be tempted to add in a couple of British CT guys to bulk out the team - Richardson, Scott or Townsend for example.

Bevin is said to be leaving IPT, but I can't see him making the step down.

Bahrain is probably the lucky team.

Of course it's too late to enable them to get first dabs on the best of this years graduates (Van Mechelen and FAR are off to DSM, Schmidt to Hagens Berman), but there are still a few interesting names that might be available - Harasim, Ermakov and Shtin, and they obviously have a good set-up to attract these riders from such a range of countries.

Now the WT team just has to make the it's devo team a real "devo" team and they'll then have all bases covered.

According to Gazzetta, Doug Ryder's team will return to pro level next year with a Swiss license. Q36.5 will be one of the sponsors, Nibali act as an ambassador, Missaglia DS, and some of the riders rumoured to join are #israel Antonio Puppio, #lotto Filippo Conca and #trek Matteo Moschetti

Based on some talk on the Cicloweb forum, Savio has issues to keep the team going. After Androni, apparently also Bottecchia is out, and that drone company was dubious right from the start, of course.

issues indeed. "Delays in funding". Riders are free to leave

It might just be a bridge too far for Savio unless his historical sponsors step in again and save the team. For the first time in a fair few years there also doesn't seem to be many nuggets left in the workforce. Umba looked to be one after 2021, but has had a poor year as have all the Colombians post-Rwanda. Must make it a difficult sell to any potential sponsors.

Corratec's plans to turn PT are (a bit surprisingly to me, tbh) also getting more concrete now. They have sent in the documents to the UCI and applied for a license for 2023:

will be interesting to see where, though. The Italian rules are very restrictive, 50% U23, two former pros at most. I'd guess he may look elsewhere.

His replies to the tweet give further details.

Some sponsors have failed to pay their 2022 money and thus some runners haven't been paid fully.

He has asked Paris for some financial contribution (they were just lending their name to the project), but no dice and according to other tweets they are withdrawing from the team.

He proposed a merger with IPT. :S

    Cavendish hasn't signed anything.

The women's team looks like pie in the sky.

And he has signed some pretty strong riders already:

        Bas Tietema (Bingoal-Pauwels Sauzen)
        Hartthijs de Vries (Metec-Solarwatt)
        Martijn Budding (Riwal)
        Joren Bloem (ABLOC)
        Tomáš Kopecký (ABLOC)

    The end?

    https://twitter.com/davidesportista/status/1598953937951985664

Riders free to go. Not that there are many (any?) places left for them to go to at this time of the year. Pineau certainly has some questions to answer. Were the "signings" of Cavendish/Bol/Schultz just an attempt to smoke out a sponsor? Also handing out extensions when there was nothing concrete seems pretty reckless and unfair on the riders.

Laurence, Mozzato and Bonnamour should be okay. If it was earlier in the year, people like Barbier, Schonberger, Lecroq, Ferasse might have been able to get a PCT ride, but difficult now.

    Cavendish? It might be retirement.

I wouldn't completely rule out Cav to end up at #israel, but guys like Rolland or Gautier will probably call it a day, I guess. Although it's apparently also possible that the team will continue on Conti level, in case the sponsors would stay on board for that.

Sinkeldam looks likely to move over to Alpecin, btw. And I would like to see Schultz at Bolton for a year, but no idea how likely that is.

Edit: is KTM going to supply any pro team in 2023? If yes, Schönberger may follow again.
