2012 Espoirs
« on: February 09, 2012, 07:46 »
So this year I want to increase my cycling fanaticism by following the Espoir races and decided why not have a thread for all things and discussions to do with the espoirs.

My first question is if anyone knows a calendar or list of all the U/23 races? My knowledge is that there's an u/23 version of some of the classics like PR and RVV, some stage races likes Olympia Tour and of course Tour L'Avenir but what are the other ones? If I (we) get a complete list, I'll update this post with the calendar so there's always a reference to look at.

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Was always curious as to how some posters could really tell if someone was good or raced well in the race. Because I could never find the highlights pckages of such races. How do they know?

THink it'd be great to post race results, and highlights packages here too.

Cycman: Sagan Greipel Brajkovic Breschel CA.Sorensen Porte Wegmann Sutton Zubeldia Fedrigo Lastras Roux Selig Morabito Dumoulin T.Meyer
CQ game-breakers: Boom Ciolek DeGendt Steegmans Bertagnolli Blythe Masciarelli Stetina Boeckmans Vaugrenard

I imagine non-English cycling forums are full of people who do go to these races. Not to mention there's always bound to be a report or two on the race, not to mention selected teams will give their own version of events. It's just a matter of knowing the races, knowing the teams, knowing the riders and then searching for info.

So yep, it'd be good to get some highlights and results through the year

Great thread.
last year I had Durbridge on my CQ team so kept up quite a lot with u23 races - its worth checking the calenders at cycling fever and CQ ranking for when the races are.

u23 teams also appear at some of the x.1 and x.2...

one race im looking forward to following is Tour of Normandie

Invited teams

There'll be development teams of Astana, Rabo, Katusha and lotto as well as Chipotle, Leopard-Trek and Bontrager (ex trek)-Livestrong.

Good thread. I don't really know where to find a complete calender, but I enjoy following the U23 scene. Some races in april:

1st: Trofeo Piva Banca Popolare di Vicenza
7th: Ronde van Vlaanderen Beloften
9th: Giro del Belvedere di Villa di Cordignano
10th: GP Palio del Recioto
11th: La Côte Picarde
14th: Liège - Bastogne - Liège Espoirs
25th: GP della Liberazione
All this talk about equality. The only thing people really have in common is that they are all going to die.

He's contracted to Slipstream to the end of 2013 IIRC.

Will be a joke if CA don't let him ride L'Avenir or the Worlds. Morton and Dennis would be quite a fearsome combo.

Is L'Avenir team based or nations?

I don't think he gets on well with CA (least by other articles I've seen). Certainly a big talent, although more nurtured in the Colorado-system then anywhere in Aus, quite unique.

 L'Avenir - nations

More tallent that Sutherland but, similar in the way CA treat his imo

CA needs to get over riders doing it there own way - pick the best talent for events nurture those that want it and support those that  want to do it there own way.

starlist for link that takes place on Saturday.

I'll be watching out for Jasper Stuyven (2nd at Paris Roubaix Espoirs last year), the 3 Latvians who top 10'ed last year that return link, Bob Jungels, Lawson Cradock, Georg Priedler and will be interested if Behane can do anything as his countryman seems to be finding his feet at Circuit de la Sarthe.

Also some famous names Moser (Ignazio, son of Francesco and cousin of Moreno) and Zabel (Rick, son of Erik) to look out for.

check www.directvelo.com for a ticker.

1. Kenneth Vanbilsen (Belgique)
2. Sean De Bie (Belgique)
3. Kristian Sbaragli (Italie)

Vanbilsen attacked with 2 others (Turgis France and Watson Australia on the Eikenburg with just under 40k to go.  Shed them and held of the elite peloton.
