Seems like Evans, Basso, Moser and Phinney all did not make it in the first group.
Though no official results released yet I think to check other riders

However many stars there may be in the race when it came to sprinters today, the race seemed to be lacking a couple. A very comfortable win by Farrar which is pretty ironic seeing how his fellow team mates spent the entire day attempting to blow up the race and prevent a bunch sprint...
I haven't seen the stage, but to me it makes sense:
Farrar hasn't done much sprint training in favour of more classics training before this season (and that didn't work out well). However, that would have given him more toughness to hang on on a difficult, and hard-ridden, stage, where other sprinters would be dropped.

stage 1 Highlights

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Van Garderen, looks to me like a future TdF podium, possibly a winner. Very very impressive, I did not see another merikan champ coming, he must have some good mentors.

Weather Channel is calling for possible thunderstorms around Aspen about when the riders will be on Independence Pass. This is both good and bad.

Good: Tejay :fanfare caused chaos on the top of the climb and the tricky descent and Levi couldn't do anything about it because of the weather.

Bad: We couldn't see any of it because the weather made the sketchy coverage even worse.  ;D

Ironic that BMC spent the whole day attempting to and eventually succeeding in preventing a Garmin rider taking the yellow jersey... only for another Garmin rider to seize it from behind their back :fp

What an unbelievable rider by Jensie....
To not only ride a whole stage solo..
But manage to hold of the chasing group behind him and then also the peloton.
To brave such inclement weather.
All at the age of 40... is an unbelievable achievement.

He truly is still one of strongest riders in this peloton and his tactical nous and perseverance surpass nearly all others.

Levi truly played his cards exactly right...
He kept his cards close to his chest all the way through the race, but today he showed how strong he is and he must be pretty confident in defending his title
Rovny lost time and TJVG wasnt all that impressive either..
Though CVV will be reasonably happy as he came in with the group behind the break and Levi which included Nibs, Rincon and Dombro :fanfare

Great day for Aru who came 2nd, but Voigt who did effectively all the way in the final stages in the break and still came 3rd.. :pray

But a big chapeau to Sutherland who was the strongest in the break (bar Voigt) and truly deserved the victory.

Yesterday stage in Boulder was AMAZING!!!!!
I have never seen so many people lining every inch of streets in town and roads on the entire course!  I was so excited when they came by!  Our local boy and friend Chris Baldwin was in the break the whole day...when the riders came down Lee Hill and into town I saw them roar around the corner...AWESOME!!

I can't believe how hard that stage must have been...it shattered riders, yet they were flying! ...one point on the descent from Ward they were hitting 62 MILES/ hr

Here is a vid taken by friend of my hubby...he was sitting in passenger seat of Astana team car driven by Jani B coach Dirk Friel...

Taylor Phinney shows another rather big glimpse of his talent for the future...
But... Levi  :fp He should with his TT prowess have had it in the bag, yet CVV to beat everyone but Phinney is a great accomplishment unto itself...
Poor Dombro he will need to improve his TT by the time he needs to win his Tour  :P
A good perfomance for Kloden, in a top 4 dominated by 3 golden oldies and a young sparkling talent

Position Rider
1        VANDE VELDE Christian   GRM   25h57'34"
2        VAN GARDEREN Tejay   BMC   21"

  9       STETINA Peter   GRM   01'39"   48
10        DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd   BLS   01'40"

Once again Velits pull a good TT perfomance when he cant seem to climb a rock..
Zirbel once again puts in a good top 10 and Kangert sneaks up once again to demonstrate his undeniable talent

  1        PHINNEY Taylor   BMC   17'25"
