Albert Timmer
« on: February 21, 2012, 12:00 »
As there is a Jonnie Hoogerland thread I wanted to start one for my favourite Dutch rider, Albert Timmer.

Modest of Palmares and barely troubling the CQ Rankings this man remains my hero after watching the Girona - Barcelona stage of the 2009 Tour de France on the Cote de Saint Feillu with him family.

We had written "CAV IS GOD" on the road using a bit of chalky rock from the roadside.

His mob had coloured chalks and templates to do a proper job... very nice people too.

Every season I expect to be his breakthrough year and having seen him near the front in Qatar, 2012 is no different.

Come on Albert!

    Apparently he broke his elbow.

He broke something during the Strade Bianchi. I can look it up for you, but I'm trying to find a stage 3 video from Paris - Nice without knowing the result. So far a hell of a job! (means I've failed).
Once I've watched the race I will look for the source again and confirm his injuries.

Oh good, I'll join your league. Who's Timmer anyway, so obscure Halfords don't even have him on their list of riders (yet) :D

An odd season really for the great man.

He seemed to have a bigger profile and more headline results, none of which translated into points and rankings.

It was his third highest haul of CQ points and he won the KoM in the Tour of Luxembourg. There wasn't an epic break like his trip to the Ventoux in the 2009 Tour although he came home in 148th.

As he gets towards his late 20's I think he might not be the classics sensation I hoped.

There's a renaissance on the cards.

Can't be easy having to carry two good sprinters around, and I'm not thinking of Mezgec yet.

88th in the TDU is a good start to the season for Albert although the Argos lead outs were blown away pretty comprehensively by Lotto.

Rode well to get in the breakaway on day 2 of Haut Var.

Didnt have the legs for that steep climb though more than once. Bodes well for the season though.
