But he's really good with them, makes time for them at the team bus and arrives armed with freebies for them. That said, I'm not sure it's entirely fair to bundle them into the back of a car with no windows. I'm not sure what to make of it - does he actually believe what he's saying, or is it something he does to reassure himself? Generally for me it acts as a deterrent to any feelings of admiration ... until I see Cancellara in full flight. Then I'm often left quietly in awe of his power and stature on the bike and of his incredible bike handling skills. I think of him as the 'Swiss Stallion' - he strikes me as like a thoroughbred.
So mixed feelings in general, but his RvV accident and injury has yet again reminded me of the cruelty of this sport. Thankfully it's 'only' a collarbone, but to be in such good form and have the big goals of the season to hand, only to have all that disappear in a moment and due to a carelessly tossed bidon.
