[2.2] Jelajah Malaysia, 8-13th May
« on: May 06, 2012, 06:54 »
As the world shudders in anticipation, the time has arrived, the behemoth, the fantastic Jelajah Malaysia is to grace its presence upon the world of cycling again.

Jelajah Malaysia is the oldest bicycle race in Malaysia and it is ranked 2.2 class by UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale). Since its inception in 1963, Jelajah Malaysia is slowly and steadily beginning to be one of the most prestigious bicycle race amongst Asian and International teams, very much unlike the Tour of Pakistan which jumped to the highest echelons of cycling in a click of the fingers.

It is a platform for young Malaysian riders to compete and gain valuable experience in a cycling race. Currently many riders that is representing Malaysia now starts from their participation in the Jelajah Malaysia and the number of Malaysian riders that is accepted into international teams had increased. The exposure through Jelajah Malaysia makes the Malaysian rider a great bicycle rider for the future.

Slightly disappointed in the stages. Got some nice climbs but they seem to be too early in the stages apart from stage 6

will depend on the strength of some of the teams i think though. I expect a break to go on the climb on stage 2 and i expect Pure Black and Genesys to have riders in it. depending on who else is there may mean there is not enough fire power in the peloton to bring it back.

I think this is the final race of the 'Asian' season for some of these guys (definitely for Pure Black and Genesys) so a few riders will be looking to end things on a high.

TERENGGANU
have Mat Amin who was 8th in Borneo and sprinter Hariff Salleh who got 2 or 3 podims in Langkawi, but disappointed with just one 2nd place in Borneo.

Mat Senan had an OK Landkawi and a good tour of Thailand as did Fukushima. Will be the strongest of the Malaysian contingent

AISAN RACING TEAM
know very little about this Japanese team, they do not aappear top have done much riding this year and do not have their best rider here. I think Mori will be the team leader, has a couple of solid results and finished 6th in this race last year.

CCN CYCLING TEAM
This is a team from Brunei. Gitelis is down as team leader, an American rider who is 45 and has no previous results i can tell off. Timo Scholz is an experienced German rider witha  solid history but hitting 40 now. Lead the tour of the phillipines for a few stages and finished 4th overall. should be their strongest rider on paper.
Nederhoff brings the average age of the three international riders on this team to a wonderful 44 years old and makes me wonder why i can only manage a 2 gentle ride about sydney given how youthful i am.

GENESYS WEALTH ADVISERS
Ram's favorite (for reasons i that have never been explained). All i know is they ride the same bike as me so must be good.
Not their strongest team though and the fact that Robinson (a sprinter) is down as team leader shows that they think this is going to be a flat race.
would love to list his recent results here but appears his profile on the team website is 3 years out of date. I can say he is hoping for big results in 2010
I think Alex Carver is a decent rider and even without some of their better known riders still think they will be one of the better teams here

RTS RACING TEAM
Strong team which some will remember from the tour of Oman and Langkawi. On paper these guys easily look the team to beat.
Mizurov is Kazak national champion and was riding with Astana up until a couple of weeks ago, is listed as riding at Tabriz but is lining up here with RTS.Have no idea why he left Astana and cannot find news anywhere.
Jai Crawford is a strong Aussie rider who had 2 place in this race in 2009 as well as 2nd in a couple of other Asian tours. not been quite as strong in the last 2 years.
David McCann who won the race two years ago is not here after nearly losing his thumb in the a crash in the Chaotic tour of Korea.

UZBEKISTAN SUREN TEAM
Seem to be missing their strongest riders. Kobzarenko was riding at Team Type 1 last year and did Tours of switzerland and California. Shaekhov managed 6th in tour of Iran last year.

MALAYSIA DEVELOPMENT TEAM
Manan is here from Champion systems team after his move to Europe (maybe US) was put on hold due to visa issues. has a good history in the race, stage wins and podiums and think has won the points jersey before
Othman is another with visa issues from CSS trying to get some racing. another strong rider, was at Drapac last year.

KAZAKHSTAN CYCLING FEDERATION
All i can say about these guys is Kuzmin came 6th in the tour of Borneo recently so has form coming into the race.

MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES
I got nothing. and not just because i am losing interest now

ROYAL MALAYSIAN POLICE
Ahmad Lutfi finished 9th in this race in 2008.

KEDAH
these guys do not even know what their team leader is called. what do you expect from me.

KUALA LUMPUR
Oh found one. Ali came 3rd in Malaysian national championships last year. and Hassan came 5th in this race in 2008.

NEGERI SEMBILAN

*cough* *cough* got nothing *cough*

PAHANG
can find to info on these guys and there is not even a team photo. fake team

SELANGOR
NUR MISBAH came 53rd in Langkawi. Amrun didnt.

TERENGGANU
One of them once came 36th in Langkawi. Prize of $VR10 for the first person to read this and find out who

POLYGON SWEET NICE
Fitrianto, as well as being sweet and nice, also won the south east asian games last year. lead the tour of indonesia for a bit the year before.
Lesmana wona  stage of tour of indonesia last year.
BamBang, as well as having best name in the race, had a few top tens and 7th overall in Borneo

PURE BLACK RACING TEAM
Recent winners of Borneo and probably second strongest team here after RTS.
Torckler is the man in from, Van Uden a strong rider too.
oh and is it just me or does Shem Rodger sound like some sort of code for sheep shagging

PUTRA PERJUANGAN
Tonton (another great name) won this race in 2008 and is current south east asian TT champion. had a stint at Azad UNiversity when they were good.

TEAM LBC CYCLING
Cannot believe you actually read this far

Can't talk too much about the nostrils, I'm sure you could superimpose those nostrils on mine and they'd be as small, won't use the word large, as my lot.

Top work Dinzy. And the Kedah fail :D

The Malaysian states are just fillers, it would be a successful race for them if they got onto some meaningful breaks. The best of the lot will head to a professional team anyway, so can't expect to know any of them lot.

Pure Black should be stronger than Genesys in this race as it's not Genesys' strongest lot. Should be interesting, Torckler surely won't be going off on any breakaways this time around. RTS will be strong as you say. Aisan, from Japan, have just claimed that the GC is their aim, where in the GC will be the question. Top10 or even top 5 should be possible if they go for it.

Among the Malaysians, hard to look past Mat Amin, their best all round rider and Tonton for the Indonesians, just because he's a geriatric legend.

Oh yes, the stages could be a result of cutting costs and what not by the organisers. Fair play to them, it secures the future of the race.

Can't do anything about his dodgy taste in music, but yes, that's the one. Completely dwarfs Roman van Umden, and that's not very easy for the professional cyclist lot.

He could be, if they sit one on top of another.

One fella in Kuala Lumpur's team seems a man beast, who's he? He could surely tuck his whole team under his arm and run the race faster than they ride their bikes.

Oh jebus jebus, top update from Genesys-
Quote from: Genesys
Break is at 6:10, 50km in. Group of about 20. Plenty of hitters in it, notably Torkler, Mizurov, Crawford, Adiq & Marwood.
Torckler again? This group could, and possibly should, well hold on, strong one.

There will be videos for this race from Astro tv.

looks like the race may be down to this break already. Not utterly convinced Genesys have the rider they would want in the group. Big Ox is going to struggle on climbs later in the race.

Aye, definitely going to be a struggle for the Ox and given Torckler's performances in the climbs last week, he'd have to be one of the favourites along with RTS.

Adiq would be the Malaysian development rider.

Wait a minute, the climb is a cat 4 with the summit at 369 metres. That's already done and now it's only flat.

Was thinking more for the rest of the race if it is going to be decided by this group.
Tomorrow is a Cat 2 at 537 m
was also thinking of Cat 4 at end of final stage. would have thought he would struggle to stay will a climber over that.

8 minutes with 67km to go, Genesys clearly cocked up this time. Also 25 in the break according to them half an hour ago.

You know that the race is meandering when Genesys talk about Goss' win.
