Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Would be a great parcours but its going to be like 2011 Giro, Contador will probably smash everyone and take the excitement away from all the mountain stages.

Stage 20 to bola del mundo is going to be like nothing before.

Not the racing itself, but the fact its the greatest cyclist of all time, making his grand return and in all place, his home town on his home mountain being cheered on by his own people.

Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

Before ppl get on my back (i mean in less respectful terms that you have jsg) with the shouts of fanboy i haven't slept in 2 days and made a mistake. everyone knows eddy bernie coppi indurain and probably about 3 or 4 others are several steps above any rider from this gen.

I am increasingly wondering if the Vuelta has decided to make the Vuelta as Dutch as possible, to give it a stronger anchor.

Strange. A duplicate of the 2011 Giro which was the least interesting GT in recent memory, personnally speaking. As if the TdF with its dramatic and pivotal descents never happened at all.

It's more like the first week of the 2011 Tour, or a nightmare Paris-Nice. 2011 Giro had four proper multiple mountain stages (on paper), Vuelta 2012 has one?

I love MTFs but hate MTF sprints, don't confuse the two.

Zoncolan & Gardeccia stages were epic, the rest not so much. The winner was known after Etna + too many MTFs and bland third week + WW108.
La Vuelta will probably be a borefest - why bother watching anything other than the last 10 kms of every stage when Bertie (can and) will win 7/8 stages.
edit: The Arbiter has said it better

Then again you aren't a cycling fan but a Contador fangirl.

That's all subjective someone who likes and supports Alberto (like me) thinks the Giro was great while someone who doesn't like him probably thinks it wasn't great because Alberto won/was to dominant.

Don't be silly he will never win 7/8 stages maybe 2/3/4. He just doesn't have the killer attitude and the ban won't change that fact. He will probably attack on and win 1 or 2 mountain stages and maybe he'll win the tt but that's it. If you believe he can/will win all 7/8 uphill finishes you're a bit weird.

No seriously, there should be much more super hard mountain stages for Alberto to dominate even more.

The 4 wildcards for the 2012 Vuelta are known now :
With not much surprise, the 4 teams are :

Andalucia (Esp)
Caja Rural (Esp)
Cofidis, le crédit en ligne (Fra)
Team Argos – Shimano (Hol)

For Caja Rural, Cofidis and Argos, it was expected. I guess it was a close call between Andalucia and Europcar.

Can't hate on Bertie just for being awesome at what he does.  Throw in the fact that he's returning to the big stage and no doubt feels aggrieved about what's gone on, and I think we can safely expect some fireworks  :-*

As for the parcours, it's a bit disappointing agreed, although I like 16 and 20 mucho  :)

His fluid climbing style is great to watch, but with no one on his level (in the Vuelta)...
