« on: August 14, 2012, 11:10 »

best music ever I like me some funk

Step 1: Limoges - The Underground - 162.1kms

As usual, the peloton of the Tour du Limousin 2012 will begin its journey of 700 km from the field in July. The big race will start at 12:25 ET racers will head then to Beaune via Chaptelat Mines. Time to cross St. Amand Magnazeix Fromental and then the pack will come in the Creuse. The first sprint will take place in the outskirts of the town of Saint Maurice The Underground. The squad will then make a first pass over the finish line and this after 74 km race.

Follow the feeding zone (located halfway between Creuse and Indre) and entering Eguzon. At 50 km from the finish to find the second climb of the day: the coast of Jarrige (4.77% - MG2) precede entry into Saint Foot. The platoon of the 45th Tour du Limousin Limousin resume the leadership of and will return again in Creuse by Crozant be located where the latter "Best Climber" of the day (Crozant Coast - 4.3% - MG 3). A final sprint in Saint-Germain Beaupré and riders come to The Underground by Saint-Leger Bridereix.

The stage victory will be played in the streets of The Underground, which had hosted the Tour du Limousin in 2007. The crowd that day had also seen triumph Philippe Gilbert who won only by distorting away from the pack in the last km.

The Images:
The Tour of Limousin has traditionally been the capital of the "fire arts", specifically the field in July: created in the nineteenth, he served as a parade ground. His name is a confusion between Campus Martius and the July Monarchy. It is located at the foot of the station of Limoges-Benedictines, designed by architect Roger Gonthier. It is so called because it was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery closed to the Revolution.

At its inauguration, the originality of its architecture is not unanimous. Such as the Eiffel Tower, the monument is decked inglorious nicknames. Especially compared to "a large clock that would have lost one of its candelabra."

The Underground:
The Underground is an entry in Limousin and Creuse. The town offers all amenities and has a remarkable history and culture. The Underground has preserved its medieval character: the old city walls, as the Porte Saint Jean and the Porte du Puy Charraud, the church and its crypt, the lantern of the dead or the old streets. The medieval castle overlooking the city of Bridiers far. His garden is free visit. Bridiers is part of many sporting and cultural events with its theater. Is the most grandiose historical epic that takes place in August, "Bridiers, land of Freedom."
Cirque Valdi is the largest model circus busy world ... 65 years of passion impelled the creator. It took 50 000 hours, 50 engines, 2 000 carved figures, 60 vehicles, 1 000 spectators in a marquee 4 meters in diameter, a carousel, a menagerie ... The whole is breathtaking! This is the must visit when you go to The Underground.

The pond allows Cheix swimming, fishing and walking. The Country sostranien offers many leisure activities: swimming, fishing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking area ... The West Creuse offers miles of hiking trails in unspoilt landscapes. A cinema and a theater offering many cultural outings.

Step 2: Oradour sur Glane - Saint Junien - 186kms

During this second stage, the peloton of the Tour du Limousin, which starts at Oradour sur Glane, perform a long journey in the Monts de Blond. After going through the heavens, and Blond Vaulry, riders will head to Bellac or they will meet the first difficulty after less than 30 km race (Cote de Bellac - 4.09% - MG 3). The crossing of Peyrat de Bellac allow the squad to prepare for the sprint Dorat. Runners will then head south and cross Oradour Saint Genest and Thiat before entering Bussière Poitevine which will play another battle for the best climber (Bussière Poitevine Coast - 3.60% - MG3) which precede the second sprint of the day (Saint Barbant - Km 72). Mezières on Issoire and Bussière Boffy will last 2 common Viennese High crossings by the pack before it comes into Charente department in which he will make a quick visit. Time to cross and St Christopher Montrollet and runners will return again in Limousin Javerdat. They come in Saint Junien after more than 120 km of racing and will perform a loop of about 60 km before crossing the line permanently. Cognac Forest management for the last sprint of the stage (150 km) and Saint Martin de Jussac before returning to Saint Junien where the last climb of the day (Côte de Saint Junien - 5.58% - MG 3), although it is 18 km from the line, may be the Justice of Peace of the step if a "beefy" decides to escape.

Located west of the department of Haute-Vienne, the town of Oradour-sur-Glane is a center of rural inhabitants in 2300 which covers 3815 hectares. This town is part of the Community of communes Vienna-Glane. Oradour economic fabric and has a very rich association that allows people to find locally all services necessary for daily life. Oradour is crossed by "The Catfish" that gently stretches along a grove attractive. Fishermen will enjoy their favorite sport with the same assiduity as before. How not to entrust this site this easy living, simple and rustic emanating from the river, buried in a country setting so warmly referred to by Corot last century. All this can not fail to attract tourists who chose to stay in this town. But all those visitors who stop daily at Oradour, not ignorant, here man, by his blindness and his determination, has had an indelible suffering.

They know that here the barbaric absurdity has done its work June 10, 1944. They come to discover the horrible massacre perpetrated by Nazi division, crossing the ruins where nothing moves, where everything has fallen asleep in the silence of beings and things. They come and bow before the tomb where rest the ashes of 642 innocent civilians. Close to the martyr village, the Centre of Memory (Jacques Chirac inaugurated by July 16, 1999), provides information necessary to understand the drama and bears witness to future generations. His most important teaching role, the quality of its exhibitions undoubtedly contribute to the indispensable duty of memory. Oradour who knew, as Carthage, rise from the ashes, remains forever the witness of the murderous madness of man. This site should allow those who are stopped at Oradour-sur-Glane, to visit both a historical high, but also a holiday.

Backed by the foothills of the Massif Central, looking towards the ocean, Saint-Junien, economic powerhouse of the West Limousin, cultivates a strong industrial and cultural identity. Overlooking the confluence of the Glane and Vienna, it offers a natural environment whose site is Corot's iconic testimony. Since the Middle Ages, Saint-Junien size its reputation in the leather and particularly in the manufacture of leather gloves which she is producing the first city in France. His three glove factories supplying high fashion and luxury boutiques on the planet. A tannery and a leather complement the range of expertise related to leather. They are worth to the city the label "City and crafts." Confident in the potential of the sector, the city and the Community of communes Vienna Glane working to create a city of leather, but also museum space center resource creation and training for the leather trades. The project was selected by the State as a rural center of excellence. With its fleet of efficient public facilities, the city offers ideal conditions for cultural practices, sports and leisure. Every year, events are moving to the delight of many. This summer, alongside the Biennale of Naive Art, Brass Festival in celebration and a multitude of activities, the stage of the Tour du Limousin bring extra emotion to the summer season.

Step 3: The Grand Jumilhac - Trélissac - 189.1kms

or the first time in its history, the Tour du Limousin spend an entire day in the Dordogne. The start of this new stage will be held at The Grand Jumilhac, town located about fifteen miles from Saint Yrieix La Perche. The squad will head to go and Thiviers Lanouaille city stage of the Tour du Limousin 2011 or sprinters open hostilities (Sprint Point - 36 km). A Savignac - Ledrier, it will then illustrate the climbers who dan coast Charoncle: 1.2 km climb at 8, 58% medium (MG 2) ... a problem that will certainly create some breaks in the bunch! Especially since, 3 km further to present a new obstacle: the coast of Pervendoux (6.26% - MG 2) precede entry into Genis where riders try to patch released.

Runners can breathe during their crossing Cherveix - Cubas, Hautefort and Tourtoirac before making a new effort in the town of St Pantaly Years of where will be the third point of the best climber (side of the Barn - 5.18% - MG 3). Following the entry into or fall Cubjac 2nd point sprint of the day (99 Km) which precede the feeding zone. The first pass over the finish line of Trélissac will be held at 69 km, and then leave the pack towards Champcevinel, cross Chateau L'Eveque and Agonac (Sprint - 142 Km). The common Savignac Churches will host the final challenge (Coast Vine Plant - 1.63% - MG 3) of this stage of 189.1 kilometers.

The squad will then come back and Bassillac Trélissac or in today's winner will be able to tame this new stage and uneven.

At the edge of Limousin and Périgord, the common Jumilhac rooted in culture limousine. She has seen the exploitation of gold in Celtic times, in the mines of Fouilloux with operating over several centuries, Fri / fourth centuries BC, and third / first centuries. It seems that there was in the seventh century, an upturn from extraction to the Merovingian period, specifically in small-son of Dagobert, since the Cabinet of Medals at Paris, keeps a few copies of third penny minted in gold Jumilhac, at a place called the Gravel. The gallery of gold, Jumilhac, keeps the memory. What impresses the visitor who arrives at Jumilhac is the imposing castle, down the Grande Allée and overlooking the Isle of its mass, half medieval, half classic.

Probably dating back at least the thirteenth century, it was the seat of a domain responsible for ensuring passage of the boundary between the provinces of Limousin and Périgord. Today the castle is the magnificent result of restorations made in the late sixteenth century by Anthony Chapel, a famous ironmaster of Chalard (Haute-Vienne). Anthony Chapel, the ancestor Protestant, was, according to tradition, a friend of the Good King Henry (Henry IV), a reward for its financial support, ennobled him in 1597. In 1655, the land of Jumilhac was erected into a marquisate. The Marquis de Jumilhac distinguished themselves in the armed service of the kingdom. The visit of the castle can see some interesting pieces, including the large living room, with its carved wooden fireplace, kitchen ..., the chamber of Spinner. This one, maid of Hautefort, is behind a legend to be telling during the visit.
All next to the castle, but much older, stands the church of Saint Pierre Links degree, with its octagonal belfry, although Limousin. If the parish of Jumilhac appears in a letter from the Bishop of Limoges that of Périgueux around 504 AD, the church, by certain architectural features, dates back to the eleventh century. The visit of the church can understand that it is a living building: the centuries scored, one after the other, their brands, such as the large mural of the north transept, finding in favor of works from 1989 to 1995 . Datable to the seventeenth century, the theme is the "Cross of Passion." Jumilhac offers many other wealth, inherited from its history. The fountain of Saint George, in the ancient little street of the same name, known since the Middle Ages. Or the street Félibres with its old houses. Descending to the Isle Bridge Cross Bancaud welcome the visitor with its two arches spanning the river. Above the bridge, beautiful climbing rocks along the Isle. Higher still, a power plant that replaced a windmill. This is the factory that supplied the early twentieth century the first electricity to Jumilhacois. Two small stations to remind Périnches Permangle and adventure railway and tramway between St Yrieix Thiviers and between 1912 and 1934. And then there's the rolling hills, Isle, born in Nexon, from the Chalard and down quickly to the village to go to Perigueux and the ocean ...

Trélissac:
Covering an area of 2368 hect ares, Trélissac is the fifth city of the department by its population (7300 inhabitants). Trélissac presents a harmonious blend of natural and rational urbanization. It appears that strong will and permanently married dynamism and quality of life. There is the desirable balance between housing, economic activity and the essential imperative protecting the environment. With its well-identified neighborhoods, it has extensive green and wooded part that goes through the forest of Lanmary. Five circuits (10 to 21 km) allow the practice of hiking in this area. Located east of the town, Trélissac is part of the CAP (Community of Agglomeration Périgourdine). The economic activities of the municipality are predominantly commercial. The diversity of offerings today the catchment area's busiest of the city.
Most recently, towards Limoges, almost all major car brands have regrouped along the RN 21 conveniently renamed on this sector "Avenue of the automobile." With the availability of suitable equipment and performance, the municipality supports the priority sporting, cultural activities and recreation of the 70 community associations and their 4000 members. The Media in the cultural field, the grandstand to the track of the municipal stadium in sports are the latest achievements and two synthetic pitches for football are scheduled this summer is frequented daily by hundreds of walkers (walking, cycling or rollerblades), the "Green Lane" along the river Isle of over 15 km knows a great success.
City sports par excellence, Trélissac loves cycling.
Since 1994 when it was city stage of the Tour de France, it received an arrival of Tour du Limousin, the Federal National cycling week, the Route de France Feminine Internationale, an arrival of the Tour of the Dordogne. The ECTCC (Agreement Cycling Trélissac Coulounieix-Chamiers) counts among its licensees one of the most decorated athletes in the person of Joel Jeannot, recently crowned double world champion cycling Para.

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

On a non-cycling note, I would implore everybody to read about the events at Oradour-sur-Glane, yesterday's start town, in 1944. I visited on a holiday some 15 years ago (I was 10 at the time), and it has haunted me ever since. I ran from the village in floods of tears, so horrendous was the weight of what was done there to completely innocent people. In fact, just reading about it again now has made me feel quite strange.

As Sir Lawrence Olivier read in The World at War

Quote
Down this road, on a summer day in 1944. . . The soldiers came. Nobody lives here now. They stayed only a few hours. When they had gone, the community which had lived for a thousand years. . . was dead.

This is Oradour-sur-Glane, in France. The day the soldiers came, the people were gathered together. The men were taken to garages and barns, the women and children were led down this road . . . and they were driven. . . into this church. Here, they heard the firing as their men were shot. Then. . . they were killed too. A few weeks later, many of those who had done the killing were themselves dead, in battle.

They never rebuilt Oradour. Its ruins are a memorial. Its martyrdom stands for thousands upon thousands of other martyrdoms in Poland, in Russia, in Burma, in China, in a World at War...

FDREU: I know, I get tired of hearing how great Lance is, what a super person, etc. It's crazy and it's hard to not just tell people he is a cheat and asshole. Frankie Andreu

There are too many places with stories like that. When i was researching a tour in poland almost every town on he route had something in its past.

True enough. The scars on the people and places of Europe are still vivid, even nearly 70 years on. Maybe it was the scale of Oradour, maybe it was my age, or just the senselessness of it. The German's just used it as training!

The only place I've been where I've felt remotely the same sense of horror was Auschwitz. And that, and the other camps like it, was death on a scale beyond anything else.
