did not realise it was a custom build cycle course, told you it was all part of one of those japanese torture shows. now they just need to install the live feed for next year.

yeh, was looking at in on google earth, its like a big cycle centre with velodrome, bmx course and all sorts there. Pretty cool.

Someone posted a photograph of the velodrome, it's a spanking one.

It's crazy, there is a big indoor velodrome, plus 5 other outdoor ones. There is a small circuit for families and children to ride on, heck, they even built a big roller coaster as well!

Very cool. Just not to race around ::)

is the main course open to the public the rest of the time? would be amazing to have facilities like that near your home.

was it purely built for the Keirin craziness. Never quite understood how the japanese can love the sport so much and yet not dominate at international level. are the rules different?

Not sure, it's hard to tell, some of the course was comprised of main roads built for through traffic and other parts were clearly just part of the circuit. I am sure you could go cut some laps but maybe not the full course we raced.

I assume it's mostly for keirin racing. The guys who did the Japan cup said the kerin centre down where that race was was also very cool. Like going to the horse races at flemington. Need to go search for some of the articles that shane perkins had laying around after his visit. Pretty interesting.

Pretty Crazy sprint in the end there, kept waiting for the line to come. Nippo guy seems to go from way to far out, and plenty of Ferrari style swerving

Not just any Nippo guy, that's Richeze. Anxious for the points maybe? But I think that could've cost him in the final metres.

That is a brilliant chart, looks like riding through a high rise car park. is there a speed graph to go with it

Going off my power file, each lap we would hit 70+  about 5 times only to be back at ~15kph within 30 seconds. Fast, slow, fast, slow, fast.....

youch.

Isn't it a couple of hours till the prologue now? While not nearly as crazy as that stage, there do seem some dodgy bits for the riders in Kumano too.

We recorded Episode 3 of the Pedal Asia Podcast live at the final stage of the Tour of Japan.  Here is a quick summary :

Episode dedicated to all things Tour of Japan. Wrap up and interviews with Genesis rider John Lovelock and support staff Greg Nunn, James Machin domestic rider and all round fan of Japanese cycling and Abeki Ryoji of Champion Systems - official supplier of race kit for the tour. Loads of info and some real insight into asian pro cycling. It's our best so far so enjoy.

Thanks TKBB
Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.
