And Team Europecar has saigne a 21 year old rider from Eritrea, Natnael Berhane.
He will be the second prof. rider for Eritrea, with Daniel Teklehaimanot (Orica GreenEdge).
Very good signing.

Mind, he's not the second Eritrean pro, Tewelde and Russom are also pros, just not in the European circuit yet.

Edited to add- so too Tesfay and Debesai, and I think Daniel Abraham rides for the Ethiopian professional team Marco Polo cycling.

Great news for Berhane. It also puts to rest my slight concerns about why he didn't go to Qhubeka this year.

Daniel Abraham is Eritrean by name only, he's lived in the Netherlands practically all his life, and has ridden for the Dutch Marco Polo team for a couple of years. Marco Polo have always registered as Chinese, and now Ethiopian, but the management is almost exclusively Dutch.

The question of "pro or not pro" is a difficult one. Many riders on Continental teams are living as professional cyclists, however they don't all get paid as much as the guys on bigger teams. Does that make them pros? I think so.
But for the sake of simplicity, I consider only riders on WT and ProConti teams as "real" pros, and the others as semi-pros (not taking anything away from them). Possibly with the exception of cyclo-cross teams like Fidea or BKCP.

Also if RaNT disappear I will predict Horner to BMC
Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

My expectation is that Cav will be released and allowed to go elsewhere.

I was always opposed to the cav move from a sporting point of view, and i wrote a fairly lengthy blog in may 2011 saying that, that said it always made commercial sense.

as the world champion, british and available, especially in the run up to the olympics, sky had to either sign him, or look like they were making every effort to sign him, but it was also clear to most people that it was an odd fit tactically and would upset the gc team in the major stage races.

Both have served their purpose to each other, Cav got to ride on a team that would fully support him in his (doomed) quest to win gold at the olympics, sky got to employ the british world champion and the publicity that came from that.

Im not even convinced the intention was for it ever to be more than one year, all the drawn out contract negotiations, hot air about image rights, bike brand etc was just that. Interesting that Sky started negotiating the new pinarello contract months ago with no intention of ever swtiching to specialised.

I expect Cav to leave but it will be a mutual decision with a lock of back slapping going on. Sky laud Mark and tell him how much they wish him well and they didnt want to hold him back, Mark saying what a great team sky were to ride for and it was amazing to ride for a british team in the tour de france etc.

both get what they wanted for 2012, and both get what they want for 2013 onwards.

as for "heard it hear first" Keys is talking out of his arse.. its been rumoured for weeks.

http://www.movistarteam.com/news/2012-8-11/capecchi-and-szmyd-join-the-team-in-2013
pff more of the same for movistar who already have about 11 riders of the Szmyd Cappechi type for the mountains

Though i hope maybe they let Szmyd have a go at leading the giro in what would have to be his final season at any sort of level.
Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

That's 7 decent riders leaving Liquigas. Is this a cull of their mid-level riders in order to be able to afford Sagan (and possibly Moser) long-term?
And who is their second GC guy after Basso? Duggan? Caruso?

hearing rumours that Basso is off, possible to Argos of all places. Think they have to trim down considerable, without liquigas money, and get a bunch of american riders to please cannondale

Sebastian Lander (Danish Semi Pro)

Certainly a good signing if it becomes true. He can do a bit of everything (except high mountain climbing maybe), and is ready to step up on the big scene. :tu
Just don't mess up his Danish champion's jersey.
