Sella finishes the first lap with an advantage of 1.43, 70 km to the goal. His lead has grown by 43 seconds in the last five kilometres, not knicker twisting mad yet.

Average speed after 3 hours is just short of 42km.

At 5km from the summit of the climb for the third time, Sella holds a 58" lead over the main group.

As I write, an update comes in that Bertolini attacks on the downhill and has opened up a 10" gap.

I'm thinking Betancur and Moser will stand together on a lot of podiums in their careers!
