Whats your favourite race?

As the (real) classics finally are upon us ... its time for another of these threads.   ;D

I started watching bike racing like lots of people - via the Tour.  But have come to appreciate the classics so much more.  GT's have their place, but the classics are just awesome every single time.   There is no tomorrow, there is no point saving energy or not going for it ... its now or never. 

For me it goes

because of my fan-girl status, I am pretty partial to AGR and FW too  ;D - and E3 I like a lot too - but pretty much anything with a bit of action will do if for me

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Only one day races? As I don't have to sh*t myself on an internet stream, TdF is still one of my favourites.

San Remo doesn't deserve to be a monument imo. It is always a super boring race.

Such a hard decision. I prefer the cobbled races over anything else on the calender, but between Flanders and Roubaix I'm just not sure. Voted for Roubaix though, since that race is completely unique on the calender while the Ronde has a number of similar races like E3 (which I also love btw).

Between the other three, I really don't know. I actually love MSR, not sure why. The wide field of climbers, rouleurs and sprinters all in with a chance to win, the attacks on the Poggio, the fact that it's in Italy.. On the other hand, I've always had a soft spot for Lombardia too. It's a lovely race, especially because it's on a different place on the calender that any other. And then there's Liège, which is a great race as well. I'm no big fan of the uphill mass sprints of Amstel Gold and Flèche, but Liège is mostly brilliant.

And I'm in the mood for nicknames after reading the Cycling Nicknames thread ;) So this is the order:

L'Enfer de Nord
Vlaanderen's Mooiste
La Primavera
La Classica delle Foglie Morte
La Doyenne (though it's with pain in my heart that I place this one last)

It's a terrible nickname, true. Can't believe the Ronde doesn't have a better one. In between La Primavera and L'Enfer, 'Vlaanderen's Mooiste' just sounds awful. But well, that's the Flemish for you ;)

Favorite monument on the list is Paris Roubaix.

Favorite race, i am just like every other uneducated masses and just plain love the tour.

Out of this list, Ronde first, Paris-Roubaix second.

Among my favourites not on the list are the Tour du Haut Var, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Tirreno-Adriatico.

Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

Depends on the weather. Paris Roubaix for me as a race is unbeatable in the rain. But RVV and PR are very close when the weather is dry.

But it comes down to the riders who make the race really. Some years i look back and favoured some monuments over others due to the actual race, so every year it is different.
