Twice city stage in the Tour de France
• 607,000 inhabitants
• Referred to as European Capital of Sport in 2005

The place of exchange and openness of choice presents itself as Europe's largest port city on a major sports field. So it was, for example, in Rotterdam in 2000 the French team of Zinedine Zidane won the European final. The main football team in town, Feyenoord, Netherlands in 1970 has its first European Cup in the Champions League concerned. In cycling, the city has seen Joop Zoetemelk office in the yellow jersey in the middle stage after the prologue of the Tour de France in 1973. Rotterdam has more gepopeld of fun during the Tour de France in 2010, when the price there for several days, landed a prestigious Great Departure. During the prologue, partly on the majestic Erasmus Bridge, the symbol of the city, walked, took Fabian Cancellara ahead of other riders in the peloton making it the fourth time at the inauguration of the Round the yellow jersey could attract. The next day was a stage marked out in the direction of Brussels along the dikes in Zeeland and Antwerp, during which Alessandro Petacchi has incurred. It is partly that holiday that the founders of the World Ports Classic has inspired.

• Olympic city in 1920

The prosperity of the port of Antwerp and the influence of its traders in the world have the city for several centuries at the top of the world hierarchy. The city was also the center of the sports universe during the Olympics of 1920, which were held in this Flemish city. Paavo Nurmi has four first Olympic medals, including victories in the 10,000 m and in the stadium. Since then, Antwerp has also emerged as the capital of the diamond, which includes shine on the racket that is handed over to triple winners at the indoor tennis tournament. Only Ivan Lendl and Amelie Mauresmo have succeeded in this to win. In terms of cycling, it is especially to the velodrome at Antwerp attracted the champions on the occasion of the famous Six-day. The town counts among its stars wegkampioenen as Wilfried Peeters and Tom Boonen, who come from Mol, a neighboring town

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Elsewhere in the same country this weekend is the F1. Having followed practice this morning I can confirm that at Spa-Francorchamps, at least, it has been peeing it down (technical term).

Should make cobbles fun, especially if there is a wind off the north sea today. Did someone say this was live on ES?
FDREU: I know, I get tired of hearing how great Lance is, what a super person, etc. It's crazy and it's hard to not just tell people he is a cheat and asshole. Frankie Andreu

Excellent - also means there won't be any clash with Vuelta coverage. I can switch seamlessly from one to the other in a sport-filled Friday afternoon, in which no work will clearly get done  ;D

Just picking a few names out of the startlist...

Looking to see how Adam Blythe does, he showed he was very capable in this type of racing when he excelled in Qatar and he can hopefully make a push for a spot in the worlds team, even though he doesnt seem to fit in with the route or squad.

Daniel Oss he also has shown a considerable amount of promise on similar terrain even if his Roubaix expedition was very disappointing, if he can repeat his late season form from last season he may be very dangerous.

Also it will be interesting to see how Freire goes as the Worlds course is ideally suited to him and it would not be all that unsurprising considering how his career has panned out so far.

Also it will be interesting to see how Kwiatowski goes, he seems to be a very strong rider who hopefully will have continued his form from Poland and he also seems to have a decent sprint on him as well.
