Plenty of other people have posted whole races or stages so I don't see your point but if I had to pick a moment it would be the MJ presentation.

That TT was awesome ...  riding the second half of it, knowing he had done enough to win.

I do wish he had beat T Martin though.  Winning the stage as well would have been nice

Mine is a Greg LeMond, Alpe D'huez moment, but not the 1986 Bernard Hinault one.

The 1989 Tour has plenty of epic memories.

Jelle Nijdam holding off the peloton for a stage win, the sprinting prowess of Etienne de Wilde. Joel Pellier winning an emotional stage on the first day his parents saw him race... and that's before you start on the battle in the mountains for the classement.

Fignon and LeMond produced a number of magical moments between themselves too. Superbagneres as they chased Robert Millar and the Orciers Merlette time trial won by Steven Rooks.

For me though ever better than the final time trial was they duel up the Alpe. As a young lad watching the highlights on tv the words of Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett were amongst the highest points of their commentating career.

Just when it looked like Greg would hold on to the summit came the last Laurent blow... one that looked Tour winning and took him to a new level of confidence the next day at Villard D'Lans.

Greg may not have won the Tour that day but the way he battled those final 4km to the summit of the mountain certainly stopped him losing it.

I still get goosebumps watching it... fantastic emotive stuff.

Hope you all agree.

I've had time to think of another one. Repeats my first ever post on this forum.

The 'moment' happens at 6:37.

I don't know whether we are invited to debate other people's choices but I've never really understood the adulation for Vino's win on the Champs Elysees.

Because it's seen as a sprinters stage and it takes alot of effort for a non-sprinter to win it.

For me it sums up everything that was/is great about Vino. There are no rules, there is nothing that isnt possible. Sprinters stage.. to hell with it.. Protect the team leader.. To hell with it...

Compare that final stage into Paris with the drudgery we have nowadays. Riders go on breakaway, peloton catches them, sprint finish, Cav wins. That was probably the only time in the last 20 years in paris that someone stuck it to the sprinters and gave them a big v sign.

That for me sums up Vino in a couple of kilometres, audacity, bravery and downright arrogance.

One of my earliest cycling memories: Frank Vandenbroucke destroying Michele Bartoli's hope of winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège for the third time on la Redoute. Ironically the moment VDB attacked the name Phil was sprayed on the road.

My point is that the op clearly says moment not hour long climbs up mountains. It's like if I asked you what your favourite kiss was and you replied by telling me who your favourite girlfriend was.

And then replied "I don't  see your point" when I ask again which was your favourite kiss was.

Ps its only the suspicion that you might get very upset that got me to write girlfriend rather than boyfriend above. Consider it a let off.  ;)
Plenty of these 'moments' actually are special moments to people because of what happened in the hours before so I don't see that as something wrong. In saying that, the special moment specifically would be the podium in Grenoble.

What I see when I watch it is Vino following Brochard off the front, refusing to take his turns with AG2R guy and then following Brad McGee to the line.

It's interesting to compare that win with Cavendish in 2009, when the winning margin over the next sprinter was probably greater and the guys towing him to the line did so deliberately.

Vino, Mcgee and Cancellara all finished ahead of the pack so it wasn't as if Vino had achieved something else no-one else could've on the day.
