If they are going to persist with this Tour of the Oslofjord-styled route, I hope they put a finishing loop of Holmenkollen in there - it's not a super-hard climb but with a loop certainly enough to create some good racing (a bit like the queen stage of the Tour de Pologne in the last couple of years, only a bit steeper than that - ca 5km @ 5,5%), and it's so easily accessible thanks to the Norwegian passion for wintersports - just get on the T-bane in the city centre and it'll take you almost all the way there. And the views down on the city and the fjord are superb. Far from the best Norway has to offer, sure, but still very good for a place that functions as a finish in and around a capital city AND a place that any commuter or citydweller can get to trouble-free.

Here's hoping stage 4 has a couple of loops to the west of the river in Lillehammer or finishes on the climb up to the ski jump - it's not too big or too steep but will at least provide a platform for attacks to be built up on.

I think with the parcours, its worth remembering that its only being upgraded to 2.2 for this year, after being 1.2 previously.

I cant remember what breakdown that makes but I think there will only be 5 or 6 world tour teams, at the moment, sky, garmin, greenedge and lotto are the only confirmed. Guess with a field mostly made up of pro conti and conti teams they cant make the parcours too tough initially.

I guess if next year they can get commitments next year from more world tour teams then the parcours can be tougher.

Saxo Bank is also confirmed. (Not sure if they still are WT in May though  ;) )

Upgraded from 2.2 to 2.1 actually. That puts it at the same level as some pretty difficult races. However, there are a lot of Norwegian teams that have gone UCI-licenced this year solely so they can ride it. I think at the moment the issue is more to do with the establishing of the race so staying close to easy access for crowds. Perhaps there's also the aim of a race that allows the top Norwegian names to be competitive and thereby induce them to compete, as a way of trying to inspire more fans to the roadside, but that means not using the terrain to its full. Using Holmenkollen would not be especially difficult and would still not exactly be utilising the full possibilities of Norway, of course, but it would make the race a bit trickier. And of course it's very easy access from metropolitan Oslo. The main obstacle, really, is probably that it's one of the region's bigger tourist attractions so they probably don't really want to disrupt too much or close the access road.

The following teams are confirmed as of a press release today:

http://www.glavatour.no/no/pressemelding-lampre-isd-klare-for-glava-tour/

Confirmed WT teams:
GreenEdge Cycling Team (AUS)
Lotto-Belisol ProTeam (BEL)
Saxo Bank (DEN)
Sky Pro Cycling (GBR)
Team Garmin-Barracuda (USA)
Lampre-ISD ( ITA)

Confirmed Pro-Continental:
Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator (BEL)
Team Type 1 – Sanofi (USA)
Rusvelo (RUS)
Caja Rural (ESP)

Confirmed Continental:
Joker Merida (NOR)
Endura Racing (GBR)
Team Cykelcity (SWE)
Christina Watches -Onfone (DEN)

Looks like a very strong start list for a 2.1 race. Maybe we'll even see the mighty JTL. Would expect the Rabo youngsters to get an invite as well as they are defending champions and all.

good line up so far. Combination of Sky,Lampre, Garmin and Saxo will be good to watch, throw in breakaway artists Topsport and TT1, and then the wild cards of Christina Watches who will put out a strong squad, and Endura racing, should be good.

The startlist is up on the race website now:

Team Sky and Garmin both with pretty strong squads here. Interesting to see that Petacchi is riding as well.

cyclingfever now also have a complete provisional startlist

Although he's listed to ride, I think JTL might duck the showdown with Sky (wouldnt want to embarrass them), as he crashed at the weekend.

Agreed, have to question the decision of the team to send him to the Giro given how poor his form seems to be.

How does BMC do that ?

BMC must ride the Giro

BMC being a US team must ride the ToC

Evans would be Thor lead out train

While it might do Thor some good ( so I agree  ) was never going to happen, Thor will have to find form in Poland me thinks

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.
