Despite the time splits the peloton finished rather close imo, nothing too definitive.

Indeed it was. Will Sky have any interest in you know who?

They must do, surely, but with the number of talented young Brits popping up these days they can't possibly sign them all.

may possibly be a bit old to get skys interest.

There is interest from Garmin which is his most likely WT destination by the sounds of it, but also likely that Endura will be pro conti next year.

For a conti team to win med and haut var is a bit of a scalp. Few pro teams will be scratching their heads

Have many riders changed teams during the season?

The way JTL rode at the end looked very 'impressive', even Gilbetesque. He even had the time and patience to wait for Simon to get out of the way after Simon tried to block him a few times.

Wow - impressive stuff from Tiernan-Locke.  Fantastic for him (and Endura) to back up his win in the  Med.  What other races is he likely to race this year - against top level opposition, apart from the Tour of Britain?

They must do, surely, but with the number of talented young Brits popping up these days they can't possibly sign them all.

may possibly be a bit old to get skys interest.

He's only 27, so not a spring chicken admittedly, but not exactly old!  I hope he doesn't end up at Sky though.  As I have said before, I like seeing British riders scattered around the peloton.  If he went to Garmin, I could see him and Dan Martin (allergies aside) being a useful combo in hilly one day races.

I'm really pleased for JTL and Endura especially.  It's one for a team to say that have huge plans and aspirations for the seasion (NetApp) and another to go out there and do it.  Emphatically too in amongst some hefty competition.  You can't help but be impressed by that!

I have to say that I hope he doesn't go to Sky - they've got a lot going in that squad and if Tiernan-Locke was to move to a World Tour team, I'd like it to be one that would offer him more opportunities. It wouldn't be a bad move per se but there are other teams he could thrive in too.

It'll be a tonic for Russ Downing too to have his season with Endura off to such a positive start.

Fantastique!

A candidate for my favourite cycling video of all time.
  • The commentators' evident horror that Jean-Marie Tiernan Locke was closing in on the lead group
  • The fact they referred to the chase group as "le groupe Tiernan-Locke" when it had the race leader in it
  • The use of the phrase "Comme une bombe!"
  • Use of the phrase "Que, c'est terrible" as Tiernan-Locke caught Simon
  • And that they gave up on their man, once he had
  • That at 8:34 it looks as if an Endura rider has made his way to the finish to cheer his man on
  • And of course, victory going to the unforgettable Jerome Tiernan-Locke
  • Also I get to use the list function, a first for me.

There may be more, I'm off to watch it yet again.

Always impressed by how easy Jaden Tieran Locke makes climbing look. Remember from the ToB last year he would accelerate away with looking like he is putting any effort at all in. Watch him come round the corner just before he caught Simon.

The worst part of the commentary was actually the climb before.

They didn't recognize much riders, could not see the difference between the Saur and FDJ riders. And finally they named the entire Movistar squad except Quintana, when trying to recognize...Quintana.   ;D

I've just watched more of it here

http://www.cyclingfans.com/node/3915

What it said to me was that Jean-Francois Tiernan-Locke was pretty much toying with the field on the climb before, trying to get a nice sized group to go away and getting a bit frustrated that they couldn't keep up. Awesome.

It was Ian Bibby.

virtually the entire endura team were dnf's, Rob Partridge was their only other finisher.

Gutted that Dekker had knee problems. Although they aren't serious. I just wanted to know where he stands. Now I still don't know. Guess that'll have to wait to Strade bianchi

Kinda funny that a WT-dominant peloton could be afraid of Juan Tiernan-Locke, a "conti" rider. :D

I like CC's descriptions though, more or less what I though about the commentating when I watched the video :D

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Use of the phrase "Que, c'est terrible" as Tiernan-Locke caught Simon

"Terrible" in French is a positive thing - much like 'the kids' say "wicked" in English. They were in awe of JTL. So was I, this being the first time I've seen him ride televised.  ;D

Gorgeous scenery, beautiful pale golden light as always. February in the Haut Var region (I've only visited in summer): it never fails to impress me every year and that's the main reason I make a point of watching this race.

I enjoyed that race, fantastic stream and good racing with nice scenery.

Anyway Team Endura's next races are 26 Feb- Les Boucles du Sud Ardèche 1.1 and on 02 March- Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia 2.1 according to their website.
Dunno if Jetse Tiernan-Locke is down to ride but I imagine he will ride Murcia.

he is coming back to racing - had Epstein-Barr virus. Stopped racing for 3 years slowly climbing back up the race levels

http://redkiteprayer.com/?p=7840

"...In 2005, he moved to a nationally ranked French team, CC Étupes, and established his credentials immediately by finishing on the podium in all of his first 10 races, including a win at the GP de Rocheville, near Cannes, on the Côte d’Azur.

A couple of months later, his health suddenly deteriorated. Locke returned home and was diagnosed with the Epstein-Barr virus. He quit cycling, and for the next three years attended the University of Bristol, graduating with a degree in product design..."

What is odd is that his former success seems to have been totally forgotten about e.g. on his wikipedia entry.
