You clearly didnt look at Stage 5 closely enough. Has a high point of 20metres about sea level, and in parts drops down to 10 metres below sea level. 30m, that a fair drop.. :

I understand that they go 10 metres below sea level because it's the only place they can get a drink.

was Qatar the race with the guy using twitter for the race updates - really bad English but was just so cool - with his phone dropping out all the time - but information all the time including camels being spotted.

Same as in Oman if I remember correctly, sometimes you'd get 10 updates in a minute and then lose contact for 15.
