[1.1] Tro-Bro Léon 2012, 15th April
« on: April 15, 2012, 08:27 »
The event was first run in 1984 as an amateur race, becoming a professional race since 2000. The race was established in 2005 as a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe TourIt is often called Le Petit Paris–Roubaix due to its similarities with Paris–Roubaix, because Tro-Bro Léon includes 24 sections of dirt, cobblestones and gravel roads (making up to 29.7 km/18.5 mi) on the rolling and windy roads of Brittany.

The Tro Bro Léon is a kind of a bis repetita of Paris-Roubaix. Indeed, where the second part of the race route of the Hell of the North is full of cobble stones, in the Tro Bro Léon it's the ribins which make the race particular.

The ribins (pronounce: reebeens) or ribinous are small paths crossing a field, either a sand path but often with gravel, which are part of the race route of this race. No less than 22 ribins are on the race route, one of which will be done 4 times in the laps on the local circuit around the finish city, over a total distance of 33.4 kilometers.

The start and finish are in Lannilis, north of Brest. From there, the riders will first go towards the coast line to get to the real start of the race, in L'Aber Wrac'h. After the start they'll return to Lannilis and get to the intermediate sprint in Ploudalmézeau.

If there are any mistakes in the facts, sue velowire and wikipedia, all I've done is a monumental amount of copying and pasting
Let's not be blind fans here, Tiernan Locke isn't going to win, it's definitely Ian Bibby.

I don't think it's a race for Démare.
But it should be a rider from Europcar or FdJ-Bigmat. I'll go with Saïd Haddou or Francis Mourey.

Team spidertech dominating this race, with Roth winning the race and i think Will Routley in 3rd.

Edit :
1. Ryan Roth (Spidertech)
2. Benoît Jarrier (Véranda Rideau)
3. Guillaume Boivin (Spidertech)

2. Benoît Jarrier (VRU)
3. Guillaume Boivin (SPI)

(from CN thread, suggests was Boivin not Routley who 3rd, he was 2nd last year)

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Why all the cynicism of J T-L ?

Its not out of the blue this level of performance, he started last summer and has been strong ever since.

Could it be that he hasn't got better and others the playing field has levelled?

Nup, I like JTL and Endura. It's just that I thought the race would suit Bibby, who didn't start. or Blain more than Tiernan Locke.

Did you see Endura reported he had a late puncture...
I did not and it gives me the perfect excuse to sook about bad tyres. He would've won O0

Nup, I like JTL and Endura. It's just that I thought the race would suit Bibby, who didn't start. or Blain more than Tiernan Locke.
I did not and it gives me the perfect excuse to sook about bad tyres. He would've won O0

Re JTL. Why was he not in Tro-Bro_Leon?

I find it a beat strange that riders are sick too often. They dont race a full calendar like years ago when they started in March and race through to Oct. There is a lot of picking and choosing so surely their bodies don't take that much of a hammering that the slightest snowflake has them running or the team bus. No one has race a GT yet. I dont think many riders in the last few even competed in more than of the week long races before may so why all the sickness stories? Now the TDU starts in January we have an early start to the season but lots still get breaks all during the season. I think Gerrans has been going pretty much since Jan and has not been doing too badly!

JTL and Endura may have never intended he ride this race, and was perhaps on the startlist just as filler.  As Ram pointed out if he hadnt DNF in snowy Spain, he wouldnt be available anyway.

Endura are likely to be much less able to fly riders around at the last minute than WT or ProConti teams.

re: illness - low body fat and freezing wet conditions can't be ideal.

Without any degree of certainty, I say Laurent Pichon won the piglet.

That's good enough for me. Thank you!  I've completely failed to find any photographs of the piglet moment and it's the trivial sort of podium business that I really enjoy.
