C'mon zam, you should provide the translation with it. ;)

If Valverde is serious about the Tour he may well want to test himself tomorrow on what could be a very interesting stage. I have kind of given up hope of seeing Rob Ruijgh 'show' after learning today that this is his first race of the season and that he's far from fighting fit.

Wilco Kelderman status: still not Merckx
Duh. that was never meant serious.

Kelderman still the best Rabo though. Also the last Rabo that hung on on the climb. Gesink and Kruijswijk were momentarily dropped but came back in the descend.

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Might be a rare sight tonight, Szmyd racing for his own chances, although Salerno is also in the group of 30 riders behind Albasini
I hope Movistar now get behind Pardilla as he is the only one of their strong team in contention after Valverde crashed.
Who is Garmin's leader? They have Martin, Hesjedal and Danielson up there as well as Peter Stentina
Sky have Porte, Uran and Wiggins
Rabobank - Gesink, Kruiswijk and Merckx jnr.

I am always DEADLY SERIOUS about the Dutch. Gesink will win the Liege and le Tour, Boom will win Flanders and Roubaix, Pim Lighardt will win Worlds and Lombardia.

In more current news, I am excited for this stage EVEN MORE than I was excited for yesterday's stage. There are several teams who put multiple riders in the lead group yesterday, there will be a much tougher selection made today. Maybe Samu for the win? Not sure how strong he is right now.

As for Valverde, well, I'm not glad he crashed, but I'm glad he's gone.

Well Wiggo said he was riding in support of someone so Sky's leader has to be either Uran or Porte, and given that Porte got Algarve it probably makes sense for Uran to be leading.

As for Garmin, I think things there are more fluid. Dan Martin certainly looked stronger on the climb than Hesjedal but they are both very up-and-down kind of riders, the situation might be different today.

Samu and Menchov who are both up there, could be descent chances, although it would be rather unusual to see Menchov at his best in this kind of race.

That makes sense to me, but with options like they have it could be interesting.

Quote
lejandro Valverde abandoned the Tour of Catalunya sore from yesterday's crash and will not take the exit at the third stage, considered the queen and end in Port Aine. The rain and the journey that is expected today discourage participation by their discomfort in the shoulder. Team mate Javi Moreno does not come out either by gastroenteritis suffering from the beginning of a test that came through the floor of Ivan Gutierrez.

Valverde finished the second stage in Girona with a sharp blow on his right side and especially painful bruises on leg and shoulder. The Murcian rider suffered a drop in supplies inoportunda and was delayed so the help of his teammates tried unsuccessfully to bind to the lead group. Finally, arrived at 2:09 at the finish line of Girona and added 20 seconds of penalty imposed by judges to follow the car stood in the overall standings leader Michael Albasini 4:01 and 2:39 of the favorites.

"When we were out of supplies, had a can on the ground, lifted the front wheel and I fell to the right side against a curb. Has been an almost inevitable decline. I got up, was dizzy from the blow and I lost some time to leave. The tour was very good for me, but that's life rider. I am very sore, especially on the right shoulder. Let's see how rested and how we got to assess what to do tomorrow "assured yesterday after finishing the stage.

Thus, Valverde truncated his brilliant start to the season, winning a stage and second in the Tour Down Under stage winner and the final overall in the Tour of Andalusia, and the Paris-Nice achieved another victory and finished third.

Valverde got a 20 second penalty for following a car for too long after his crash, really adding insult to injury

Anyone have an update of the stage. I see on one website it is now raining in Port-Ainé but that it is 4º so a high chance of snow, actually 80% chance of precipitation.

Snow down to 1500 - 1600 metres, according to the current forecast for Rialp, the town at the base of the climb.

http://www.aemet.es/en/eltiempo/prediccion/municipios/rialp-id25183

Guess they will be slippin' an' a sliding their way up the last few hundred metres.

Snowed at my house in the Madrid Sierra last night - first snow for the winter, FFS.....

well that stage has not produced anything positive in its outcome as for securing the races longterm propects.

Boy the organisers want to get the fingers out when dealing with the weather.

Depends which Pope,  The Ex Hitlerjugend SS division German with the white robes, or the Russian talkative cycling hardman.

It would make a good matchup if they ever came head to head in war situation.  O0

They were only told the finish line was 12km up the climb. Hard to guess in thick fog when to sprint then. Totally unfair

Time gaps today wont count apparently which is probably the right decision.

You cant give the peloton 10 km warning that you are chopping 60km off the stage. What should have happened is decision made before the race. Organisers messed up.
