Brajkovic was further down on GC after stage 2 (in the group at @ 51secs on the stage), top 3 decided on countback would be  Carrara, Cherel and Kruiswijk - in that order at present by my reckoning.

Is there some merit in creating a contrived time gap that mitigates the argument from the 'peloton' that 'we'd have closed the gap if the stage had gone the distance' but still rewarding the breakaway (not suggesting this will actually happen but interested in people's views) - you could give y'day's breakers 1.32 and suddenly you still have a race for GC.  Are there any precedents for this?

No one wins

they probably did the only thing they could

I was thinking maybe the break guys start on the same time as Albasini as a reward so 13 on Zero but how do you do that
Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

If you put them all on the same time as Albasini that is unfair on the 3 I mentioned who were in the first group on stage 2.  If you give the break 1.32 then Albasini, Carrara, Cherel and Kruiswijk would all be on the same time on GC.  If you can arbitarily say there's no time gaps, I don't see much difference in arbitarily modifying the time gap (again I am not suggesting this will happen).

So what's going on today? Is there a race? Will it count for GC? How long is it? Will there be coverage? Can any of us be bothered to watch?

I propose that the Volta Catalunya be re-named the Magical Mystery Tour

What's the parcours? Who's still riding? What's the GC situation? Will there be a broadcast?

Out of curiosity the car that Julian Dean had an unfortunate meeting with, anyone know who is liable for the damage in a situation like this?

Hope Dean can make the end of season races at least.

It comes down to the negotiations of the various insurers. The race is insured and the rider himself. So, assuming the car was legally parked etc, one or both of the latter parties will pay. :)

Very funny, sir. ;D

And possibly not far off the mark. ;)
Actually completely wrong.
It has nothing at all to do with Kruijswijk who has no chance of winning anyway since both Cherel and especially Carrara were much stronger in the previous mt stages so he would have never taken the GC.

I genuinely think it's unfair they annuled the time gaps. And if most directeurs sportif and riders in the race agree... then they must all be Kruijswijk fans right?  :fp
Don't give me this shortsighted bullsh*t.

Coverage will be delayed by womens tennis or banger racing or bull riding or whatever - that we do know already.        Well probably a good chance it will be.

Trying to fathom what the hell is happening is part of the fun I suppose,  fans getting trolled by race organisers now.

First of I need to say that that was a great stage and very exciting right up to the very end. Great to see Uran win this, hope he really has a resurgence this year. Also, is it just me or is Gesink looking pretty lousy at the moment?

Swiss 1-2 in the GC, well I never! :D

That was an exciting finish too, group of 6 off the front for last 20km never getting more than 20 seconds and only being caught in last 500m. Albasini did a lot of work as well, thought he showed great intelligence when he didn't try to ride himself too far into the red chasing Levi.

Uran close to another stage win, was there a crash after the finish line or was the winner just having a rest?

High quality racing there, reminds me of 6-day racing. Those riders were really going, and who said Leipheimer was a wheelsucker?
Chasing a group like that, both the breakaway and the chasers showed much class. Quality ride, quality riders.

Non sprinters sprinting for position is exciting but it sure could be dangerous! I don't want to see a pile-on crash of those top guys who are on same time...
