Pitching in for Burry Stander. Building form for this race and had an unexpected win at Windham.

What about Peraud has not shown much at the Tour, but he seems to be focusing on this and always seem anonymous until you check the final GC... and of course he is the only mountain biker I know...  ;D

Julien Absalon is the main hope for the French. Kulhavy is the other major contender, but Stander will smoke them.

Wong Kam Po here too, and on the track. How many riders are riding in all three broad events (track, road and MTB)?

Be plugging for Stander and Niyonshuti. A respectable finish be good for the latter.

There's Marc Bassingthwaighte as well, for Namibia.
He recently seems to have acquired two extra letters, earlier his name was spelled Bassingthwaite... ;D

Niyonshuti should be OK, this is the thing he's prepared for the last several years. Probably not the very top, but a respectable finish will be within reach.
Stander may medal under the right circumstances.

Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Breset, Spitz and Gould in the top 3 and have a substantial lead. Pendrel looked so good and just got dropped sudddenly. Breset really looks the most superior atm.

Ooh, Spitz falls, and Gould gets caught up on the technical descending section. Breset was already pulling away, her's to lose now.

2 laps to go, half a minute lead. All too comfortable for Julie Bresset. Spitz now five seconds ahead of Gould.

Proper gap between Spitz and Gould. The forty year old's heading for a silver medal.

Last lap, minute lead for Bresset and the two behind are locked together.

Spitz really is killing Gould on the climbs, not the first time that's happened in this chase

Bresset was much stronger than everyone else. Great victory for such a young girl.

Just wondering though, is this like the average MTB race? I've never watched or done mountainbiking, but it didn't look terribly exciting to me. Is this what the average MTB race looks like, or are they normally different / better?

Not nearly as technical as usual MTBs. Bit too much flattish dirt and not enough rocks and such sections. From a telly pov, it was well better than UCI WC races.

Really, better than the average race? Hmm, I guess it's just not my sport then. But perhaps the men's race will interest me more.

From a production quality point of view, definitely. Camera work and all that was brilliant. Racing, not the best, seen many better races.

Men's race, hopefully it's good. Should be interesting considering the flat there, I'm thinking that Absalon may not necassarily have such an advantage as he's usually one of the best climbers around. Hopefully it's Stander.
